We've been moved from SOG to Contemporary in July. Can anyone who's been there recently tell us about it? Our original package included breakfast, dinner & park tickets, now all our rate includes is lodging.

Its a great place to stay. THe decor if the room can be overwhelming at first, but it soon grows on you. The rooms are a nice size,(the biggest ones I believe) ITs great to be on the monorail and its also walking distance of the MK. They have a Food service area(not a food court) but they do have refillable mugs! If you are in a wing go fro the North garden wing and ask for as close to the tower as possible. This way its just a short walk to the tower to get to the monorail! You can also cut thru the food area instead of walking all the way around. Its much shorter this way. They have 2 pools, one is the main pool with a slide and the other is what is known as the "quiet pool".
Every friday night they have a pin traders meet in the area in between the 2 stores ont eh same level as chef mickeys.

Not sure what else you will want to know.

Just got back last night. Yes, you can charge to the room key. We requested our 4 rooms to be next to each other with 2 + 2 connecting and our requests were met. We had absolutely NO problems.

I read your post below. It sounds like you had a great trip! I have a couple of questions that haven't been asked of you yet. We have the one of "guaranteed view" rooms that's supposed to be facing the lake. Is the walk from the far end of the wings to the Concourse really all that bad? Did you eat at the Concourse Steakhouse? If so, how was it?

Thanks in advance for the help!
Amy:)

I am faxing room request tomorrow and would like a room as close as possible to the tower (I am staying alone with children) and I was hoping you guys could give me a tip on how to fax them! I am not sure how to phrase it because I don't want to sound pushy, lol.

THANKS!

Hi Lori! I have family in Carver :).

Just write a nice little chatty opening and list your requests in order of preference. Make sure that your fax is easy to read so the CM doesn't have to hunt through your letter. I actually used bullets like:

  • Non Smoking
  • King Room
  • Upper Floor Preferred

I got everything but the upgrade I asked for ;).

You won't sound "pushy" :). Close with some more chatting ... something about it being a mom and kids trip. Just make sure to hold off sending your fax until about 5 days before your arrival. You can also check Deb's site for hints on what to write: http://www.wdwig.com/cro1.htm

While I agree with most of this post, I disagree with the "chatty" part. These people are busy. They don't give a hoot that you're a single mom with 3 kids who has been secretly planning this trip for the past 5 years. They don't care that this is the first family trip you've ever taken. Now, if this is one of those things that Disney has been known to do something special for (i.e. anniversary, birthday...Disney may very well do other 'special' things, however these are the only 2 I have *consistently* read where Disney does any thing. I definitely do not profess to know all of the ins and outs of Disney), knock yourself out in letting them know that. However, I would do something (highlight, italicize) to draw their attention to it so they don't skim past it as they look for the real purpose of your fax. And again, be direct and to the point.

By being 'chatty', you're taking up the CMs time to have to wade through the chatter to get to the meat and the real reason for your fax. Simply state what you would like to have and be polite about it; no more, no less. If you were at work and wanted something, would you take up the boss' valuable time in telling him/her things that have no bearing on what you're asking for? Same type of concept. :-)

AmyA:

The walk from the main building to the far end of the wing would be a long one that I wouldn't want to make all the time.
There is an entrance in the front middle of the wing where you can enter with a shorter walk from the bus stop if you don't need to go through the tower.

Since you are already guaranteed the preferred view, I would make "close to the tower" your first request. I've heard many folks say they are having luck with having their first request met.

FirstNo,

While I agree that you don't want to waste the CMs time with too much chattiness, I feel that you should personalize the letter a little. Maybe they do care it's your first trip to WDW and will make an effort to make it great! If it looks like you're just in it for an upgrade, then it could very likely end up in the "round file" with no action taken.

I forgot to add that you should include your name, dates and confirmation number prominently on the request. I bolded mine to make it easier to see.

Bob NC,
Thanks so much for the advice. I will definitely fax a room request when our trip gets closer. I'm glad you had a nice time!
Amy:)
