Soccer parents: What is your post game snack?

I am very opposed to the fact that we are conditioning kids to think that if they are doing some kind of physical activity they must be rewarded with a snack (that is usually not even healthy). It is no wonder so many kids are obese.

Kids aren't pets, a snack isn't a reward.

Many of these kids have siblings doing sports right after their game, so this little snack (even if unhealthy) can tie them over until you can get a decent meal.

Inactivity and poor eating habits at home is the main factor for obesity. Not a small bag of chips or cookies once a week.

Everyone takes turns. It's free every week but yours. So i think of it as a nice gift from parents and to be grateful for whatever they bring.

I guess it is how you look at it. If I am bringing snack for 20 kids one week, it is the same (or more) as buying it each week for MY kid.

I never worried about what others brought. Some weeks was something small others went over board. Once in a while the parents would forget or that kid wasn't there for their day.

Good point.

Like you, I don't get worked up over what other parents bring. There are far more things in this world to care about.

Every time this topic comes up there's the usual rant about snacks. And I can understand the angst when you're talking about travel sports or older kids.

In this case, though - they're 4 year old girls. A snack pack of chips or cookies and a juice box is not that big of a deal.

Right. For us most of the games were Saturday morning and I would run errands after so I was happy they had a little something.

I'm coaching my son's team this year. I wasn't going to do snacks at all but three different moms approached me and asked what the snack schedule was. I told them it was totally up to them and there was no way in hell I was worrying about it while also trying to corral a group of 7 year old boys who sure as heck didn't need any *more* energy. (I said it more nicely :-)

In any case, in our league it's usually fruit. Watermelon slices were a HUGE hit, grapes are easy, and of course there is the ever present orange slices

Ack! The rec soccer coach wants to set up a snack schedule with food and drinks. For middle school kids!
