Soarin' Question?

I think I read something in another thread that there is a place for you to stand so you can view the Soarin' movie if you don't wish to ride along with the rest of your party. Is this true?

We Didn't See Anyone Do This But If They Have A Spot Clear Of The Seats I Don't See Why You Couldn't. But Why Not Just Sit In The Back Row? It's Not Scary At All

DH does not want to ride, but would enjoy seeing it. It's not because he's scared of heights, he just doesn't want to risk motion sickness and ruin the rest of his day.

I'm not sure if there would be due to safety concerns. I never saw any type of area that looked like it was set aside for that. As far as the motion sickness issue...I think the movie itself would create that problem more than the ride itself. There are lots of flying scenes and fast moving scenes. Its like watching a movie on an IMAX screen.

I suffer quite a bit from motion sickness-don't even mention Body Wars but never have experienced any problems with it on Soarin-I'm also afraid of heights so you'd think it would be the last ride I'd try......the ride isn't jerky in any way and the movie is of the smooth scrolling kind rather than the "crashing on the moon of endor"type

I do not watch IMAX movies,but haven't had any problems with Soarin'.I think your DH should give it a try.If he begins to feel sick,all he has to do is close his eyes for the rest of the flight.The ride vehicle itself moves very little.

During the "orientation" movie before you board, they mention that if you are afraid of heights or have motion sickness, you might want to ask your "flight attendant" to wait for the rest of your party at the "arrival gate". I didn't see anyone take them up on it or see any specific place to wait. I did see my DD's wheelchair stayed in the aisle area along with ECVs that some people had brought in.
I don't know how far the lowest row is actually off the ground during the ride, but if there was a place to stand and watch, I would expect it to be way toward the back, behind where the 3rd row is parked before the ride begins. I also don't know if it would be a clear view or an obstructed view. I know I had read somewhere that when it was in trials that they had asked if it could be watched from a wheelchair without getting out and they were told it could not (for what that's worth - if there was a viewing spot, you would expect them to use it for people who can't transfer).

I asked at Soarin' Over California if I could just stay in my ECV and watch from ground level. I was told no.

I too have motion sickness issues. When the film started I thought, "here we go again", and closed my eyes. A few seconds after that I started peeking and eventually was able to open my eyes.

I think it's the picture not the seat itself that is the problem.
