So You Think You Can Dance Season 6

I'm not saying that the producers are so sweet that they want the married couple to be on the tour so they can sleep in the same bed every night. I'm saying they would like them together for the ballroom performances they would do together.

I'm not sure I understand the attitude toward Mollee either. Maybe I'm missing something.

So let's look ahead to the top 10. Since we know that the judges try to influence who they think would make the best show, who do you think are the two to go? The guys are what is difficult for me, because I think Nathan, Jakob, Legacy and Russell are safe. So that leaves Ryan and Victor. I have the feeling they will want to keep Ryan and Ashley, so Victor goes.

It's harder for me to figure out the women. I think Mollee, Elenore and Ashley are safe. I hate to say it, but I think they're going to push for Karen, which leaves Noelle and Kathryn. Tough call there.

I agree with your assessment.

The 4 guys you mentioned are safe. I agree that they will want to keep Ryan for 2 reasons, 1, he is the only male ballroom dancer left and 2, Ashleigh.

I think you are right that the girls are tougher. I think Mollee and Ashleigh are safe. I'm not sold on Elenore but I think they want her in the top 10. I totally agree that they are pushing for Karen however, on Twitter there is a lot of negative feedback to Nigel and Adam about Karen. I think out of all the posts I searched last night and today, there is only 1 or 2 supporting Karen. Most of them are extremely negative towards the decision. Adam and Nigel do read the posts that come in to them (you can tell by their responses) and I don't believe for one second that they won't help Karen out the door if it is good for the show.

Noelle and Kathryn are pretty interchangeable to me but I like Kathryn better. I think one of them has to go soon. I definitely want Karen gone 1st but then I'm ok with Noelle going.

Many of the twitter posters last night wanted Mollee to go. People were definitely against her. I think they feel she is too young, perky and silly. She is a bit grating but that is an age thing. Chelsie Hightower, Lacey and Allison (I think) were all as young as Mollee and came across as much older. The average twitter user is in their late 20's so they aren't the tweens and teens keeping Mollee and Nathan in.

It's funny when they choose to emphasize a dancer's youth and when they don't. Janine was 18 when she won - still is (she has the same January '91 birthday as my son.) I agree that Mollee looks young in the face, but I don't think she dances like a little girl.

I was very surprised to see Janine's age. It's not that she looks old by any means, but I would have thought 20/21 based on her dancing, look, the way she carries herself, etc. -- and I saw her live on the tour as well as watching the series.

I don't hate Mollee, but I'm definitely not wowed. I've been to countless dance conventions & competitions where I've seen much, much better. Heck, I can think of one dancer off the top of my head who is her age from the local dance studio where my daughters train who graduated & went off to college this year who is light years ahead of Mollee, and has been for at least 3 years. Matter of fact, our studio owner's daughter is 16(barely) and is head & shoulders above what we've seen from Mollee. Our studio is good, with some excellent training to be had, but it's not focused on the knock-out, drop-dead production style of dance #'s that dominate competitions. Mollee has had training at that level, but she hasn't mastered it yet. IMO her placement in the top 20 was a casting decision for a TV show. I'd rather they concentrated on bringing the very top dancers to compete.

Mollee didn't deserve to go home last night -- but she & Nathan certainly belonged in the bottom 3 last week.

Yeah, we laughed out loud when we saw that Janine was born on the same day as my son...comparing her maturity level to his ... I somehow doubt that Janine's mother was staying in the room with her, physically dragging her out of bed for rehearsal every morning...wonder if Son could appear on camera for 30 seconds without scratching or doing something else unseemly...

I understand the ballroom angle, but isn't the tour made up of all dances from the show? We went in 2007, that's what I remember, but I could be wrong. They haven't danced together on the show yet, and I think it would be a big advantage to them if they did in the future--especially if they "happened" to draw a ballroom style.

Mollee definitely comes across as much less mature than the other teen girls that were mentioned. Janine definitely looked like a woman. Lacey looked young, but not quite so junior-high,and Chelsie was just amazing.

The judges did seem to make excuses for Karen, both last week and this week. I understand them liking certain people, or wanting a balance of styles, but they risk losing their integrity when they appear to be showing bias. And Nigel is always going on about the importance of the integrity of the show, etc.

The tour basically features the highlight dances of the season, i.e., this year's included Janine & Jason's Travis contemporary routine, the butt dance, the breast cancer dance, bollywood, etc. There is very limited new choreo in the show, mainly a group opener & closer, with very little else added. The only way I can see them featuring Ashleigh & Ryan together in a ballroom number on a tour would be as a replacement for their solo slots, which would make sense & probably improve what is presented to the audience.

BTW, I just have to say that on this year's tour Phillip's solo was absolutely jaw-dropping. I expected him to come out there & show some really great hip hop and he didn't . . . it was on an entirely different level. The entire arena gave him a standing O. The only other dancer who got that kind of response for their solo was Evan, who was definitely great, but also was taking his bow as the hometown boy.

If you enjoy the show and have ever considered going to see the tour, I highly recommend it. What looks like a bunch of wonderful dancers on the TV screen, is only that much better in person. I've seen the tours for seasons 4 & 5 and I know I've seen Travis, Ivan and Danny for sure, possibly some others too, teaching and performing at some conventions and small workshops DD has taken. It's amazing what we miss on the TV with poor camera angles, etc. IMO nothing beats watching these talented dancers in person.

I have to start reading the #sytycd thread. I follow Nigel and Adam, but end up reading just their tweets and miss the context of their responses.

I hope your son isn't on DIS :lmao:

Pasha and Anya were a ballroom partners a few seasons back, but they weren't married to each other. The producers didn't keep Anya in the top 10, and in fact, Pasha and Anya never danced together. (I think Anya went on the tour as an alternate, but even if she did, they didn't dance together on the tour.)

I was wondering if the dancers would get this week off to be with their families for Thanksgiving but I checked the TV listings and the show is still on Tuesday night, with the results show on Wednesday.

With dancers from all over the country, it's probably not feasible to have them off to be with their families. I'm sure that most couldn't afford the flights, and the producers don't want to pay for it anyway.

I do hope they're going to do something nice for the holiday for them.

I was fine with the guy but definitely not with the girl. The one who survived might as well have danced around a pole.

No kidding. Her outfit and solo just screamed 'I'm a little sex pot - look at me pout. Here are my booty and so keep me about!'

If her tigress appears on my screen to smolder in a Rhumba next week -- DH better be ready to protect his precious flatscreen!

Just watch...and get ready to hope for buyer's protection on the flatscreen!

I guess maybe we shouldn't blame Karen for wanting to compete in this way. Week after week her sexiness has been celebrated - even Adam keeps saying how sexy she is ...when she didn't draw a sexy dance, Nigel told her he liked her better when she was sexy. What is the take away for her supposed to be? Sex it up for the solo. And it worked. It's up to the voters to tell her that her method won't make her a winner.

...that is SOOOOO WRONG....:sad2:

Yeah, I hear you. But what I'm trying to say is that frustrates me, particularly from a show that boasts how much they want to bring the best of dance to their audience. In many ways they do that. How often can you find a full-on Alvin Ailey performance on primetime television? The number they presented a few weeks ago was stunning. Of course I did want to brain DD afterward when she said, eh, I really don't like modern very much. Are you kidding me? If nothing else the lines & positions were incredible.

IMO heading down the road of pandering to your audience by "casting" competitors strictly for the accessibility of appeal or sexing dances down to the lowest common denominator only attracts an audience looking for catfights or whatever the garbage is on those date the millionaire garbage reality shows. I think there's a lot more staying power in a show that's all about the talent, sport & art of dance.

Adam made a joke about that when he made the comment about her sexiness. Something to the effect that those who know him understand how hard that is or something like that.

Nigel and his dirty ol' man remarks. eww.

I like him otherwise and think he makes some good points. But he is a "dirty ol' man" and I'd tell him that to his face.

I hate when they "sex" it up so much. Some dances are just hot. But others aren't. That poor girl shaking her hips last night---she just doesn't do "hot" well. And neither does Mollee. I don't care for Nathan either but the crowd and judges love them so.
