For my upcoming trip my boyfriend and I will have one day in Universal (Tuesday, April 19). We'll have a longer Universal trip in September, and I've just been thinking today of how best to spend the day.

Should I go hardcore and try to ride as many things as I can, or should I take it slower and explore places like Diagon Alley in depth?

Right now I think my plan involves:

-a meal at one of the Wizarding World counter services
-maybe I'll finally get a Krusty burger?
-exploring Diagon Alley and Springfield
-copious amounts of frozen butterbeer

What are everyone else's one day only must dos?

i'd hit the rides and do lunch/dinner at springfield that day.
it might help you decide which rides will be a must do again in September.

since your next trip will be longer, take your time on that one.
linger and wander in all the areas in the park.

I'd wander around taking it all in too in April. If the crowds are higher than expected you won't feel like nothing was accomplished if you only take in a few rides. Especially if you have a longer trip later. I'm loving the direction you're taking with butter beer. :-)

One of my must do's no matter the length of trip is The Horror Makeup show. It's easy to fit in a relaxes schedule and a nice break from the sun.

I'd figure that large amounts of your later trip will be spent waiting in line for Kong. And that islands will be crowded after it happens so I'd look to do a lot of the islands things before they have the bigger crowds later. I may not be correct on that but i would guess come September that everybody will be at Islands and that the Universal side would be easier to do then.

My suggestion is to honestly do whatever your heart desires. It seems as if going on rides is not a priority to you at least from your brief description of what you are wanting to do. So, if you truly want to do just those things, just go for it and enjoy it.

However, if you genuinely want advice and you do want to go on rides, but things like drinking butter beer and exploring Diagon Alley and Springfield are your priority over going on rides, I personally think that if you do want to ride anything, ride it first thing in the morning while things are slow. After that, do all the things you have stated that you desire to do.

Also, if you want anything like butter beer, I suggest going into shops and restaurants that serve it rather than stands outside like at Hogsmeade, which are outside, in the sun, and often can be very long during the day.

And I wouldn't worry too much about September possibly being extremely busy. While it would be after Kong opens, Kong I would imagine would have been opened for a couple of months at least, and by September school will be back in session. So, it won't be as crazy as it will be this summer.

So by this it sounds like you will not be staying onsite- just coming and going? A lot can be accomplished in one day if you really try..... especially with fast pass. Ive done both parks in one day easily... It was raining and the very low season though.

Let me re-phrase that. All the rides and shows we WANTED to do. We didn't do sinbad, animal actors, beetlejuice, simpsons.... We did all of the big things. And MIB about 18 times.
