My DS13 has asked for an ipod, a video camera, and clothes. DS8 has not asked for anything yet. I already bought them a skateboard ramp, some new basketballs and collector baseball card packs. What's up with the ipods anyway??? Are they expensive?? How do I know which one to buy for a 13 year old???

There's a good thread on this a few pages back I remember reading it.

I am completely at a loss as to what to get DD7 and DD5. On top of Christmas, DD7 turns 8 in November (on Thanksgiving, no less) and DD5 turns 6 in January!

They just don't NEED another Barbie doll, Groovy Girl, Ello, Poly Pocket, etc and they really haven't reached the age where they're interested in "big kid" toys like Ipods and PS2's. It just seems that for girls this age all the toys are a re-hash of toys they already have. For example, they have the Princess and the Pauper castle from last year, they just don't need whatever this year's version is... I think Cinderella. My sister ( who has a DS15 and loves to buy gifts for her nieces) gave each of them three sets of Ellos last Christmas.... we have over 2000 Ello pieces to play with. They've gotten so many Barbies over the years, I'm beginning to believe these things multiply in their storage bins.

I've thought about getting them American Girls this year, but they each have a couple of the Target version of those dolls as well as a massive wardrobe for them and a giant horse. Do they really need the $100 version too? DD7 has two of the AG Hopskotch Hill dolls and a set of books, so I migh consider expanding on that and getting some of those for DD5.

They haven't asked for anything yet and I really haven't asked them what they want because I want to have some ideas and directions to steer them in because I really don't want to buy more of the same stuff that's cluttering up their rooms. Does this make sense? Help!!! :rotfl:

The quote the person you responed to had been asking about (does that make sense??) was saying that her DD GOT this and that and such and such was coming. That is why this poster was confused--because the thread is on what the kids want for Christmas not what they already got or have. :wave2:
QUOTE]

No she wasn't. She went on in another post lambasting anything materialistic and calling it a gift orgy. She wasn't confused. When she said "I thought we were talking about Christmas" she meant about the reason for the season and not the gift buying. Read her other post and you will see.

OH! My mistake--sorry! I am not very good about reading the poster's names and didn't realize that was the same poster.

I would let gramma get her one too -
a different one -
we ended up getting DD a second one on her b-day because Kit was lonely and needed someone to play with  (DH drew the line there though - $200 on 2 dolls was ridiculous - this froma man who took his son to the John Deere parts store and came home with an $85 grader that pushes dirt in the back yard!)

Well, the problem I have with Gma getting her an AG doll too is a totally selfish one. I have this theory that the very best gift should be received at home either from mom and dad or Santa. We celebrate at the ILs the week before Christmas so basically I don't want to be second. Kinda dumb I know, but there you have it. I have decided to tell them to get her the Fur Real pet. SHe really wants one of those too and they are also pretty pricey.

o.k. ipod shuffle it is!!!! thanks!

Your best bet is to go to the store and look at it. Does he have a lot of music? The problem with a bigger Ipod is that then you have to spend the money to fill it up! If he's not a huge music guy, the shuffle may be enough.

You can also get gift certificates for Itunes.

After our visit to Sharper Image, my boys' lists are long. :rotfl2: They want the massage chair with the Ipod. Yeah right!
Anyway, they do like the Roboraptor & the second generation RoboSapien - V2 is what I think it's called.
They both asked for Ipods - not yet, maybe in a couple more years.
