"So what do you want to do next?" An April '10 TR...final thoughts 8/2 p. 63

Wednesday, April 7, 2010 cont'd (part 3)

Our only stop in Fantasyland was to grab some fastpasses for Peter Pan's Flight. That's definitely one of my favorites and I know that Dad has told me and my sisters how it's one of the attractions he remembers most from when he was a kid. Maybe he can tell you more about that! hehe

Sarah is right that I have special affection for the attractions that I can relate back to my childhood: watching the Disneyland TV shows with Walt Disney on Sunday nights, my first visit to Disneyland in 1960 (age 8), and seeing the New York World's Fair in 1964 and '65. So, I always enjoy things like Peter Pan, Snow White, The Matterhorn (my first real roller coaster), the teacups, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, the Jungle Cruise (which we thought was the coolest thing ever when we saw it on TV in the 50's), the Carousel of Progress, and Small World. I also have to make a stop at One Man's Dream at DHS because of all of the memories that are triggered there.

We didn't do much in Fantasyland that first day because we knew we would be hitting another rope drop at MK later in the trip, but because we were walking by we grabbed the opportunity to get some FP's for Peter Pan. We know the line there grows as fast as any at MK.

So glad MK wasn't crowded when you guys were there!

We always start MK off with Splash Mountain, and then walking right on Big Thunder :thumbsup2 That's so interesting about the flashing light! I'll look out for it next time I ride Splash.

I can't believe how many people flash their cameras on Pirates even though it's repeated over and over "NO FLASH." It's so distracting!

Part of the reason we decided to head to Adventureland after BTMRR is that the Haunted Mansion was down when we walked past it on the way to Splash Mountain. Sometimes we head back to the Haunted Mansion after the mountains, but this time we headed the other way.

Our free romp through the park during these first few hours really highlights the value of getting to those extra early EMH. Usually the regular park opening is at 9 AM, so we were in effect getting 2 extra hours. There never seem to be as many people there for an 8 AM opening as a 9 AM opening. So, not only did we get the extra time, but we were hitting the second tier of attractions while most people were just arriving and going to the bigger headliners that we had already enjoyed. Plus, the temperatures at that time of the morning are pleasantly cool, making it that much more comfortable moving around. By the time we got through the Treehouse, it was still only about 9 AM, or a little after.

Yes, you got PP FP's! And with surprise FP's for PhilharMagic! How awesome is that?!

You were breezing through lots of things! I like that pic from Splash when you're outside on the water.

Yay! You did the Swiss Family Treehouse!! Aren't the views nice?! :cloud9:

I love your pics from Splash and Big Thunder. I love Frontierland. It's my favorite part of the park.

And oh my gosh, the Swiss Family Treehouse. I haven't been up there in so long! It used to be my favorite thing ever when I was a kid. I remember begging my dad to build me one in our backyard.

That's so cool that you got extra surprise fastpasses for Mickey's Philharmagic!!:thumbsup2

I'm a rule follower too! It's distracting when people use flash on the indoor rides. I have had to play around with my camera a bit but I think I've found a pretty good setting to take pics inside and always without flash.:goodvibes

YAY! for the Swiss Family Treehouse!! We've never done that before...it's always something we seem to miss!

Love the update, Sarah. You and your dad managed to accomplish a lot in one short morning. :)

Another rule follower here---In my case, it comes from being the oldest child.

You are having a great MK morning! I love it! But I'm afraid the crowds are going to show up eventually. It is the Easter Break.

Wasn't the Swiss Family Tree House-on your list "to do" for the first time?

My sister just told me, that all the band parents received an e-mail, and our h.s. band is going to WDW the last week in March. March 27-April 2, 2011. The band will leave on coach busses on Sunday and will get to Florida Monday afternoon. My sister doesn't want to leave till Tuesday. Blah! And come home on Saturday. Double Blah Blah!! The only good thing about the band not going over Easter-the rooms aren't as expensive, even though it is still Spring Break prices and the extra sur-charge on food prices at TS resturants. I sure hope they have EMH at 7:00 a.m. when we go. My little sister is going to kill me. My older sister is used to getting up at 4:30 a.m. for her job, so I'm sure she will be with me!!

Wow! You guys are just waltzing through the park. I love the Swiss Family Treehouse--we once watched part of Wishes from up there, it was fun!

Nice job getting the tripple mountain whammey in so early in the day. :thumbsup2 Hope the crowds stayed away longer for you.

Weird and I were very interested in looking for the flashing lights. I don't think we were able to find it on Splash Mountain because everything happened so quickly before I even realized to look. We did see the flashing lights in the Tinkertoy display in TSM though. Love how these things are so seamlessly incorporated!

UGH, we were waiting for someone to come on the POTC PA system to say no flash photography! Worst part of the vacation with the rudest people! It'll be a while before we get up to that though.

Yeah, we saw the TSM one too. Atleast I did.

That is part of my thing too, I am afraid someone will start screaming at me if I am constantly snapping pictures with the flash. It is rude! If you take one or two then fine, I don't mind but when it's nonstop...

So glad MK wasn't crowded when you guys were there!

I know! There was one time a few trips ago where there were people taking pictures when I could see their cameras/phones' screens and their pictures were NOT turning out. I guess that's why they kept trying though.

It's amazing how much you can get done pre-park opening!

Yes it is. We love EMH.

It was pretty cool but we never used them. :guilty: I don't think we would've needed to anyway. LOL.

I have to kind of thank you for inspiring me to do the treehouse again. I really liked your pictures in your TR!

Great update Sarah. :thumbsup2

I think Adventureland is my fav part of the park. :lovestruc

Thanks!

I love Frontierland too. :thumbsup2

Same here, I know we did it on one of our very first trips but that was probably the only time. It's one of those things we thought was "boring." LOL.

That's so cool that you got extra surprise fastpasses for Mickey's Philharmagic!!:thumbsup2

I've gotten a few decent on-ride pictures. I usually get the best ones when we are stopped.

You should try the treehouse sometime. It does tend to get overlooked by a lot of people, including us!

Yup, and we're not quite done yet. :)

Hmmm, maybe that is why I am a rule follower too!

You're right, it was Easter break plus the MK always seems to get crowded in the afternoon...

You are right, it was on my list for the first time but I know we did it a really long time ago.

That is awesome about the band going next year. :thumbsup2 I think I remember you mentioning (probably in some other TR I was reading...) that the school goes a lot? I wonder if we ever saw them. I know we've seen some WI bands marching before the parade at the MK.

Wow! You guys are just waltzing through the park. I love the Swiss Family Treehouse--we once watched part of Wishes from up there, it was fun!

Oh wow, I bet that was cool to see Wishes from up there!

Nice job getting the tripple mountain whammey in so early in the day. :thumbsup2 Hope the crowds stayed away longer for you.

Thanks! It's always nice to get the big attractions done right away so we don't have to wait long.

Aw thanks. Did you think of me when you were up in it? :)

HAHA, I don't even understand why PhilharMagic has FP's?!

LOL, of course. ;) I thought of my DIS friends a lot. :grouphug:

Good question, maybe so they can fool people into thinking they got something accomplished by having a fastpass? :confused3

You got so much done already! I can't wait to see how the park got throughout the rest of the day.

Hey Sarah! Oy I got behind. Heehee I hedged my bet on the Space ride guess, going with the odds it was either Space Mountain or Space Ranger Spin! ;)

I shared a car with Ariana on my one and only ride so far on Astro Orbiter :crowded:... I did enjoy the view up there but I haven't been since... definately will have to do a solo ride next time... photo op!

Glad you liked Oceans :goodvibes... I have to see both films still.

The TSM tie in sounds like fun! Something new to look forward to this Christmas!

What a great morning you've had so far!

Obviously, all they're doing is trying to divert people to attractions that are going to be less crowded to spread out the crowds. If you give people a fastpass they may be inclined to go somewhere they wouldn't go to otherwise. Because there is very rarely a wait of more than one show cycle for Philharmagic anyway, a fastpass isn't really worth that much. I still have mine as a souvenir.

They did the same thing at DHS at park opening the day we went there. They handed out FP's for an Indiana Jones show, obviously hoping to divert some of the crowd from TSM/TOT/RNRR.

I cannot believe you went to a 7am RD!:faint:

Loving the TR so far, keep it coming!
