So tired smelling pot everywhere!!!

I've never smelt or seen anyone smoking in my neighborhood or city. I didn't even know that was a thing.

I can say the same thing about my daily life. However, I just got back from vacation though and was shocked in one particular city how prevalent the smell was.

I find it interesting how sensitive some people are to certain scents or odors. I have a friend... cigarette smoker.... but cannot stand perfume or scented detergents etc. Never could understand that.

I live in a rural agriculture area, so smells are part and parcel of the season... lilacs.... the 'honey wagon' spreading on the fields... the shad run on the Connecticut River.... hoooooeee those are some rank air days after spawning when many die and wash up on the shores. Now the smell of cannabis growlng is another one that perfumes the season in late sept-October.

As an ex cigarette smoker I hate the smell now. But cigars remind me of my father so that is acceptable. Cannabis does not bother me, and I agree that not all pot smells' the same.

Excessive use of cologne and perfume and as far as I know there is no getting high. What a waste of $$$. :duck:

I went to a 6th birthday party at a kids’ play place this weekend and was hit in the face with the smell of skunk when I walked in. On the way home, it wafted through the car vents from another vehicle. I’m in Georgia where it’s still illegal, so I don’t know that it would be much different for you guys who have legalized it if you hadn’t. I think there’s just been a cultural shift and people are choosing to be open about it regardless of the law.
I'm not sure about Georgia, but I just wanted to mention that many states where marijuana is still illegal that hemp-derived cannabis products have been legal for a few years. Delta8, THC-A, etc. It looks, smells, and functions like weed. So, you would not be able to tell the difference if someone was smoking a legal product or an illegal one.

God I hate the smell. I don't care if people smoke it, but don't smoke it in public. What's worst people smoke it while driving! The other day I was watching TV and there was commercial reminding people driving while you're high is a dui. I have feeling I'm going to be seeing more of those commercials.

We as a society came down hard on drunk driving. We came down hard on cigarette smoking. Now we go down this road. I find it kind of hard to wrap my head around this.

I have a son who is about to become a teenager. For health reasons, he cannot smoke anything, but we've had long talks already about cannabis, since I am a regular user (edibles for insomnia). Frankly, I'd rather have him experiment with it with ME rather than with his friends.
Your post reminds me of my high school days in the 1970s. I had a few acquaintances who had “Cool Moms or Dads” who were more than happy to discretely sell to students.

I am not a fan of the smell. And I haven't smoked since college (over 30 years ago!). But I will say, I have a strange sense of calmness/safety when I smell it in public spaces. I know there are chill people around me and they probably aren't going to be violent.

That's a new one on me. The word weed existed long before it became another word for pot. And in the area I lived in (the country) we also had an actual wild plant that we called stink weed, smelled terrible but wasn't smokable, but having been around what was a lot of the devils lettuce while in Vietnam, never once did I find the smell of pot even close to that of a skunk. Course I am old now so maybe things have changed, but I can't help but think that if something smelled that bad, no one would be using it. Then again, one of the things that I have learned in my 75 years is that we can never overestimate the numbers of stupid humans there are roaming around free.
Bearing in mind…we all have different palates and different sensitivities to smells. Most cannabis can be broken down into 3 flavors. My interpretation of these flavors are skunks butt, skunks butt with pine sol and skunks butt with lemon pledge 👍🤣🤣 most people go with skunky/earthy, piney or citrus as descriptors 🤣. But that skunky funky taste is well known and is something many users go for.

I am a hardcore user, 80% straight indica with some hybrids mixed in and I’m definitely not smoking crap cannabis. 😀I’m smoking medical grade from a medical collective. Although I’m a lazy smoker and mostly vape and smoke shortys I also dab so I have diamonds and shatter here and I also have some great quality hash that I use as a screen when I want a nice bowl instead of a joint. And my Shortys are dipped and rolled in Kief. I have some fairly expensive gear one being a puffco peak. I have a ton of RSO and a few other tch/cbd tinctures. I can’t spout a lot of facts but I am a daily, non stop hardcore cannabis user medicating for nerve pain and have done so for years and this stuff all is some version of a skunks butt. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 And no I have never licked one but we all have driven through that stench it lingers in the mouth if you breathe 🤣. Oh and the edibles 🤢 they don’t work for me but when I try sublingual it’s awful also 🤢🤣

and 80’s hair ladies. I was a STIFF STUFF gal 💪💪💪.

I feel like vaping has lost some of its "coolness" for a while it was everywhere and by a lot of different types of people some whom never smoked a day in their lives but took up vaping. But that has really subsided to my observation. I still see it just not as much as in the years past.
People found vaping isn’t as harmless as they originally thought. Plus things kind of lose their cool factor to teens if their grandmas are doing it - Facebook, smoking weed etc

Of course there will be people who do dumb things. But should responsible people be punished also because of other people who break the law. Do we outlaw everything that might be used irresponsibly by someone? My point was despite what some folks seem to think, not all pot users are drug addled losers, many are decent regular people.

Are you in the city? I can say I have never experienced that in Western Mass where I live, but then again we are pretty rural. While it may be legal, you can still be busted for DUI in a flash if your car is rolling off smoke like some Cheech and Chong ... same as with an open container of alcohol
Hmmm. Looked back at my post and no where does it say we should outlaw pot. I just don’t pretend that it’s totally harmless either. And I would never take the view that all people are responsible - it’s just not reality.
Just as I wouldn’t want my kids school bus driver having alcohol on their lunch break, I wouldn’t want them smoking a few joints either. Just as I don’t want my surgeon to be an alcoholic, I wouldn’t want him or her to be a pothead either.

Yes. It's not skunky because the weed is cheap, it's the specific composition of volatile sulfur compounds in that strain (which actually dissipates the older it gets so old/cheap weed would actually be less skunky). The same compounds are also in certain types of hops and are why some craft beers smell like skunk/weed. In beer it's usually described as dank or resinous. Some people love it and some people do not. Just like garlic, onions, etc.

I don't think that stereotypical image is around much anymore considering how normalized it has become. That whole Jeff Spicoli thing is probably what used to come to mind to me and how it seemed for a group of kids in my middle and high school years. So I don't think the beef with the prevalence of weed is about some past assumption into the type of person who uses it.

I haven't scrolled through to see if this has been already posted.

One of the tennis players at the US Open Tennis Tournament complained of smelling pot while playing. She was on Court 17 which is an open air court, not walled in, in which the smoke would have been contained in. Someone was probably smoking BEHIND the stands (or in the park, outside the venue, a few hundred feet away, as they suspect,) and it wafted across the court.

Although, I wouldn't want to be in the pot smell, I wouldn't mind hanging with Snoop Dogg, what a person to use in the complaint. :lmao:

No, just seemed like from your statement you do not agree with legality, perhaps I was misunderstanding your meaning. I did not claim everyone was responsible, just said that decent people can be responsible users of alcohol or cannabis. Nothing more. Many things that are part of our lives are not harmless. All of the added sugars in our processed foods is certainly not needed and is not healthy. But people need to make those choices for themselves.

I am not advocating use of anything, If you want to use or dont, not a problem. Do you expect your surgeon to never drink? I am not talking about right before surgery or a bus driver toking up before or while driving a bus... but what about later having some wine with dinner ... or maybe smoking a joint while watching a movie... and then off to bed before work the next day? Would that be ok if that was your surgeon/bus driver? This is where alcohol has an advantage. You can not be under the influence, but because THC is fat soluble it stays testable in your system.

For many activities you will get people who will be irresponsible. Doesn't matter what it is, someone often will figure a way to do it in a bad way... maybe bad for them... maybe bad for society. BUT... because a few people may be irresponsible we do not keep XXXXX banned or it illegal for all.
