so looks like i'm going to Alaska - updated sept 17, 2015

Not my 'cup of tea' (try explaining what that means to a 6 year old like I had to the other day - she looked at me like I'd gone mad when I said it :lmao:). But my DH would love it as he works in that field and always loved planes! :thumbsup2.

It is lovely seeing how excited you are about your trip . You are going to have great fun!

i love going on factory tours - whatever's being made. My kids are like that too. Even when they were little. And to see the biggest building in the world, i think that's totally cool!!

Again, not my cup of tea but great for you if that's what you are into.
My Brother would probably love it, in recent years he has gone from having a phobia of flying to passing his pilots licence and being a plane geek.

I'm still terrified of flying (well, terrified of crashing). And everything i know about aerodynamics etc etc doesn't help a bit. Though it would probably be a good thing for me to stop watching the tv show "air crash investigation"

I know we will return to Alaska in the future but we will probably wait till Freya is older. You'll have an amazing time.

DD and DSIL were there two years ago on their honeymoon. They loved it and hoped to get back one day. But didn't think it was possible because of the cost. So they're thrilled to be going along with grandma on her bucket list trip!! This is my first time to alaska. I can't wait!!

Just had to Google your statement:rotfl2:
When we visited the Aalsmeer flower auctions in Holland we were told it was the largest building in the word.

Wiki says the Boeing factory is largest by volume but Aalsmeer has the largest footprint. Boeing is only 398,000 m², Aalsmeer 518,000 m²

I know it was big:rotfl:

i wonder what that 'largest by volume" even means. i guess the ceiling must be higher or something!

so the place in holland would also fit disneyland inside with room to spare!!

by the way, Wayne, when are you going on the big road trip trip - the one you fly into atlanta for...

The Boeing building will be less floor space but a lot taller for obvious reasons so the actual volume will be greater.

We leave March 21st. Been tweaking our itinerary the past week and booking hotels. We more or less know what we want to do now. Just booked some seats for the Grand Ole Opry show in Nashville http://www.opry.com/
A few days ago we booked a couple of shows in Pigeon Forge:

while in Memphis we will visit Graceland & booked this show http://www.orpheum-memphis.com/events/detail/disneyinconcert

Will need a holiday after this

wow! so much fun! so you'll be there in march. Is it cold that time of year? it's been so long since i've been on road trip to the south. We used to drive down every easter, and most summers. But i can't remember the weather in the spring.
those shows look really nice. I love country music and they look well put together and a lot of fun!
and i see you're getting a little touch of disney thrown in.

Is Matt going with you? Or is this a twosome trip?

i'm really so jealous. I love road trips, but we weren't able to do it when the kids were growing up because of DS' back. Too painful for him.
i feel as if i cheated them, not taking them on a big road trip.
And i can't believe we never took them to washington dc (where DH was born and grew up and where i also spent a lot of time). Almost criminal that we never managed to get them there!! i always wanted to do a road trip from new york down to disney, stopping at DC and a few other nice places along the way. Oh well. In our next life :)

Matt is going with us on both trips again this year. Its my Birthday today so we are going up to see him this weekend, go out for a meal and a few drinks. He has just been offered a Post Graduate place so looks like he is there until Sept 2016 at least.

Temps look OK late March/early April, hoprfully low 20's. Ideal really for walking and exploring.
