OKay, maybe it's just me, but I am feeling pretty left out and upset right now. August 5th starts value season, but it's really not a value with all the the codes and discounts and possibly even free dining for all other months. Whats up with that. August gets nothing. I have to go in the beginning because my kids start school at the end of the month. I was so happy when I saw that this years value season started on August 5th. Thats perfect for us, but now I am going crazy waiting for a discount code or deal or whatever and everything that has come out (or been rumored) doesn't include anything starting on August 5th. What is up with that? Anyone else agree? (ps thanks for letting me vent)

Were planning a trip for Aug 1-7 so were are in the same boat. I have to schedule my vacations in november for the following year. At that time I was not even thinking of going to Disney. I have a backup plan to go in October though. Just waitng to decide now.

Yes I agree. We are Aug. 15-24. No 40% off because it wasn't available for my dates. No free dining, because we are not bounce back nor UK. But Disney lists my time as their "official quiet weeks"....you know, visit us during the quiets weeks and take advantage of low crowds and the lowest discounts....what discounts are they talking about, because I haven't seen any yet. If things happen they way they look like they are going to happen, I agree, most of August is being left out unless you are part of the BB group or UK group that booked last year for this August.

Same with us! We are going Aug.17th -23rd. We have to plan vacations in January! With my husbands job there is no way we can change. Plus my kids start school 3 days after we get back. I certainly hope they come out with something for us! Please Disney think of us too! :sad1:

Us, too........I was feeling a bit upset, but I've started looking around at offsite places. Expedia and Travelocity are great to compare prices, ameneties, there are some great resorts really close to the parks. Also, Travelocity has a deal through the end of March, book your ressie, and then buy 4 day Disney passes and get 2 days free! I think I'm going to go offsite this August!

I think August is gaining in popularity, because people are starting to catch on that it is a relatively cheap (value season), un-congested month to visit Orlando. On top of that, Disney has historically offered GREAT discounts (at least over the last 5 years or so) to the general public at that time, further causing people to notice that it's a great time to travel. This year, bookings are up, possibly in part to folks pre-booking in anticipation of discounts becoming available. The irony of that is, Disney doesn't have to offer the discounts, because bookings are up.:sad2:

Here's to still hoping...

I know you're venting.. but you've just answered your own question.

Kids start school.. so parents want to go earlier in the month. All over the country. That means a higher demand than at the end of the month. Higher demand means less need for any incentive program to get people to go.

I know you feel left out. Discounts are incentives to fill rooms. But if it appears the rooms are going to fill anyway.. they don't offer 'em.

But it's nothing personal. Its just business.

(Puts on my Tony Soprano face..) :cool2:

Totally agree CanadianGuy... My "discount" in August is lower corowds than July. That's it. I'm staying at Shades of Green so even the room rate is the same as it would be mid-summer. But, we're not going in September because of school schedule. Like everyone else in August.

And actually, personally (don't hate me), I'm hoping that they DON'T offer too many discounts in August. None of them apply to me, and the fewer discounts offered, the fewer guests that will be in the park.

Now......Go go gadget flame shield!!

I wouldn't lose total hope. I made some ressie changes last night for my December trip and asked about August discounts (my dates are Aug 15-22). She said that August and September discounts WILL be announced the first week of April and to try back then if its a discount I feel I can use. She said she did not know what was going to be offered but she did know that they were going to offer some kind of discount for value season travelers. She basically told me to call back in a couple weeks and they would have all the information.

I think its also worth considering that some people may change their dates from early August to fit in with the free dining, this is turn will leave a load of surplus rooms for these date which in turn may be discounted.

Just incase you didn't know undercover tourist sells their 4 day tickets with 2 days free. You could book offsite and buy your tickets seperate and still get the 2 days free.

I thought the same thing!

I was really upset for a while, but then I realised that August is the only Summer month that has been getting discounts, so we've been lucky in the past. I think Disney sees value season as a discount for this time and so do I.

I keep trying to be positive that a. at least it's value season, not summer season and b. that it'll be even slower since all the good stuff starts at the end of the month.

But I feel your pain!

Okay everyone cancel their ressies and tell them its because they are leaving us late summer folks out. Waiting by the computer :surfweb: and hoping for free dining here.

I think it's much too early to worry about no discounts in August.

I was hoping for free dining but after reading how many people plan on going during that time, I'm glad I just miss it. With my mom going with us and also having a 5 year old, I'd like smaller crouds.

n2mm I'm not 100% sure what the dates were for the "code" but I was able to use it for my trip August 21st to 27th.:confused3

You're right, it's August 21 to October 6 (then later in October). Lots of gaps throughout.

Why? :confused3 We have a rumor of the free dining dates and historically they haven't offered another discount before free dining, so why is it too early?

I started worrying a year ago when I knew we were going! :lmao: "Should we go this week or that week?" "When is the big "deal" more likely to be offered?" I've been askin gmyself those questions for months, especially in order to book the best airfare early!:thumbsup2

I understand your point though. :goodvibes

You said it, NHBelle. There's been much gnashing of teeth around here over the exact same issue. I also initially thought that value season being moved up a week this year was a good sign for us, but now I'm thinking it may have hurt us. Someone on another thread pointed out that instead of the date shift meaning that they're slower in August (and thus, there's more chance of discounts), maybe in doing so, they convinced a lot of July travellers to shift their trips to take advantage of value season (so, they're busier, and less chance of discounts). Doh! :headache:

That's what I was counting on when I made our plans--that free dining or a similar offer would coincide with value season. If it doesn't start until the rumored dates, that's 3 weeks into value season, and not very helpful for many of us.

I think its also worth considering that some people may change their dates from early August to fit in with the free dining, this is turn will leave a load of surplus rooms for these date which in turn may be discounted.

This is both my hope and my fear. My hope, because we really want to go, and my fear, because it means we may not know for a couple more months. It would be really frustrating to have no good discount for early August, cancel all our plans, then have a last minute offer in June that we have to scramble to try to take advantage of.

Okay everyone cancel their ressies and tell them its because they are leaving us late summer folks out.

LOL, if I had resort ressies, I would. But I behaved, and didn't book anything with the hope that it would up my chances of getting free dining. Come on, karma!

(Caveat: I did book flights and a few ADR's, and my dh put in for his vacation time.):rolleyes1
