on points. Was in room 2216 which, as far as I know, is a standard view room. I wasn't told I was upgraded but had
a park view. This was my view looking straight ahead

and this was my view from the side

. I also took a few construction shots yesterday.

I apologize if the rest of this is already common knowledge.

I spoke with a guide about the GCV. He confirmed that sales will initially be open to members who bought their
master contract at DLR only. He said that there is a clause in those contracts guaranteeing that those members will be able to buy 160 points before the rest of the membership is able to purchase. He also said that once sales are open to the rest of the members that it will be open to everyone, general public included. So anyone who bought their master contract elsewhere or just did an add on at DLR will be on the same playing field as a non member.

I was also told that the GCV will have studio, 1br, 2br and grand villas. He speculated that sales will begin around October of '08. No idea when price, point charts or room layouts will be revealed.

The guide said that the preview model will not just have the interior remodeled but the entire building will be torn down. That will start next month and it will be GCV that goes in there, not AKV like I had previously been told. He did not know when the model would be finished and open for viewing.

I'll be staying at PPH next month so I'll try to get some new construction pictures and see if there is any new info available.

Sorry about the size of the pictures. I tried to resize them but it doesn't look like it worked.

So, the members will not be given any preference in buying GCV! anyone else fed up with this?

Why would DVC do this to all of us? I think the answer is the same one that answers the question, "Why do dogs lick their privates?" The obvious answer is because they can! :dance3:

I will now sell another contract. I have already sold three.

I was, and still am, pretty po'd to learn that the original master contract had to be bought at DLR. It seems like a slap in the face to the rest of the members.

Was the source of this rumor by any chance a DLR-based guide???? There may be some self serving salesmanship in there somewhere I think. :) I'm skeptical that the current DVC owners will not get a shot at it before the general public but I guess we'll see. I seems pretty early to worry about rumor too much.

Yes it was a DLR guide. I think it would be leave DVC open to some big problems if it is untrue since he was very firm it is a clause in the contract. Maybe someone who bought there can check?

I am skeptical as well. Opening up sales to all current mebers would still give West Coast members a head start. They are the most likely ones to buy there. And what about West Coast owners who bought at WDW? There have to be a bunch of them. This could just be salesmanship.

Plus the info this guide gave on the room types is incorrect. The official press release from Disney already stated they will have 50 units only as DVC and they are all 2 bedroom. Now we can assume till told otherwise that they are all lock offs, affording us studio and one bedroom also. This has not been confirmed, however. No mention of Grand Villas for DVC units at all. Perhaps he is confusing it with the Hotel portion of the new addition?

Anyway, till we have official notice of presales and if preference is given, I would take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks so much for the great pictures! I was there in August and looks like they are moving right along! Great view for a standard room!

No, only members who bought original master contracts at DLR will get first shot regardless of place of residence. I asked if I were to do an add on at DLR would that qualify me since my original contract and add on were done in Florida. The guide didn't know and placed a call to someone in Florida. Betty someone maybe? The answer came back it had to be the original master at DLR. So I was told I am out of luck. He said there will be points for members to buy when sales are open to the general public. The rest of us just won't have first crack. I am going to be calling my own guide to see what he has to say about this. Hopefully he will have a diffferent answer.

The guide didn't technically say grand villa. I said the press release stated 50 2br equivalents. Did that mean the units would all be studios and 1br lock-offs? He said studio, 1br, 2br and 3br. I didn't really pursue anymore questions on that. To me 3br means grand villas but I suppose they can configure the reservation to be a studio, 1br and studio thus creating a three bedroom unit.

It was great view CarolAnnC! I was soo excited when I walked into my room. The construction is coming along. I was there about a month ago and I don't think they had started yet. I found a really good spot to take pictures from so I'll be taking them whenever I visit.

So, according to this guide, there is a clause in existing DVC master contracts bought at DLR, that states the holder of such a contract will be given priority toward the purchase of any future DVC resort at DLR. Is that what I'm hearing? Anybody out there have such a contract? If so, could they look at the fine print and tell us if that clause is, indeed, present? How many such master contracts are there?

Does that mean that, other than specifying the resort, each DVC master contract has clauses different from other master contracts, depending on where you bought it? I happen to hold two master contracts, one from OKW, and another from SSR with an AKV add-on. One of them I purchased while at WDW, but the other I ordered from my home state of Washington. I'll look them over and see how much they differ.

I'm rather skeptical about this thing....

Yes, allegedly there is a clause. If I had been thinking about it I would have asked him to show me. I don't know if it specifies any and all DVCs at DLR or just the first one or a specific one.

I know there are posters here who bought their original contract at DLR. I hope one of them can read through their contract and tell us if the clause is in there.

I really hope this is not true but I don't see the point of telling me if it is just a rumor. I didn't buy at DLR so if it was not concrete why not just say nothing has been decided yet?

I am skeptical as well. Opening up sales to all current mebers would still give West Coast members a head start. They are the most likely ones to buy there. And what about West Coast owners who bought at WDW? There have to be a bunch of them. This could just be salesmanship.

I'm one of them. I have been waiting for a California DVC, but doubt if I will buy there. I can stay at plenty of hotels within walking distance, including right across the street from Disneyland, for pretty cheap. I would only use my points there for a special occasion, reserving them for WDW trips and cruises.

I have to swallow my pride and ask... what does DLR stand for AND what does PPH stand for?
The only thing we can come up with is Disney Land Resort.
Thanks for helping a newbie along. :)

You are correct on DLR. I think that PPH is another D:R resort, I can't remember the name for the life of me. I have never been to DLR, but I hope to be someday.

We toured at Disneyland also yesterday and we met with a female guide. She told us about a "Founding Members" program. The way I guess it works is this. If you buy through California, either by mail or in person you are "Guaranteed" to be able to buy at least 160 points when they finish building the Grand. Sounds very enticing....

This is not a clause in a contract, I guess this is a document which is given now at point of sale which indicates the same in writing.....

I guess Im buying.... you can only get that in Cali... We Love IT!!!!!!

It's like when AKV went on sale. Members has first choice......

PPH = Paradise Pier Hotel and yes, it is at DLR. It has rooms that overlook DCA, Disney's California Adventure.

wdw4life - Thanks for the great pictures. I'm heading to DLR next week.

We're members that live in CA, but purchased our master contract through resale so our guide is in Orlando so we're in the same boat. Not too thrilled with the news.

Interesting news. Last week i put deposit on AKV ( for which im very excited to be a member) paperwork arrived today to sign . Im all set to sign on the dotted line but find out now that if i bought at DLR i get first shot at the GC DVC . What should i do now? cancel the contract and buy down there ( i live in norcal) or not worry about it and just assume I will be able to do an add on?
PS I think im addicted to reading these boards, thanks
