And he was actually pretty good. He also had Danny Bonnaduce warm up for him. Yeah, he played about 5 or 6 Partridge Family songs, and a few of his own songs, but he played a lot of cover toons, including stuff from Cream, Hendrix, John Lennon, and a few other bands. He had this hot looking woman drumming for him, and for one song, she came out and sang "Brass in Pocket", while David drummed.
And, apparently, he was GREAT FRIENDS with John Lennon, and on NYE, 1974, Lennon went over to Cassidy's home. Susan Dey was there, and apparently, they sat around getting drunk all night, and singing Beatles songs.
This was a present for my wife, who has had a lifelong crush on David Cassidy. I fully expected to hate this show, but it wasn't bad.
OK, the one thing I dreaded, was Bonnaduce. I've met him several times, but with the last time being about 17 years ago, and he was pretty much a jerk. And I had no idea what he would be doing as a warm up. Turns out, he told some stuff / stories about his life. And he was pretty funny.
Anyway, as he was about to leave the stage, he points to a red bass guitar, and says, "That's my bass, and tonight, I'm going to play it, for real!".... and then he was off the stage.
And then the absolute highlight of the night was the next to the last song. Cassidy goes on to talk about how he bailed Bonnaduce out of jail a bunch of times. He talks about how Bonnaduce is really one of his best friends in life. He talks about the Partridge Family.
And then, he talks about how, for the first time in 40 years, Bonnaduce was going to join him "live" on stage, to play in a "Partridge Family Reunion". So he introduces Bonnaduce, who comes out to thunderous applause - get this - dressed like Shirley Partridge! I swear, I haven't laughed that hard in ages.
So, then the band starts a Partridge Family song - I can't remember which - and Bonnaduce is actually playing the bass for real. And he's having a blast, and Cassidy is laughing so hard that he can barely sing / play.
Overall, this show was much better than I expected. And my wife really enjoyed it. We were in about the 11th row for most of the show, but some people left about 3/4 of the way into the show, and we moved up to the 3rd row.
The crowd was mostly women ages 45 - 55, and I have to say, lots of them were pretty darn hot looking women. But it wasn't a big crowd.... maybe 700 of the 1000 seats were sold. Oh, and as we left, about 50 - 75 women were waiting at the rear door of the theater, waiting for him to come out after the show.
