If DHS had the same problems as yesterday, I'm sure there would be dozens of hyperbolic posts predicting the implosion of the universe, so things must be back to normal.
I can't wait until FP+ is completely rolled out and all the Dis people stop going to WDW as a result. All the secret spots and all the Dole Whips will be mine, ALL MINE!
If everyone is staying on-site, I would recommend linking the tickets you do have to MDE, and making FP+ selections for those people. Waiting until day-of creates a lot more competition (with people who didn't/can't get FP+, and with the people who did get FP+ in advance).
Then when the rest of the group buys their tickets (the sooner the better!), you can copy the FP+ selections to that group.
It seems that with a lot more schools taking a fall break that October will be a lot busier now. Those without weeks still travel on Columbus day week to get the extra day without being away from school. Some have reported teacher development days today and tomorrow as well that I'm sure are annual events. We love October, but my oldest does not want to miss school time anymore. I guess that was a good choice by him on a couple fronts.
I guess my new advice if you want low crowds is to go in September. That seems to be the only time the crowds haven't been significantly higher than in the past. There were lots of posts from Jan and Feb that crowds were higher than expected and only moderate reports for September.
Of course we'll still head down and make the best of it when we take our annual trip. Hopefully everyone will be fed up by then and going to US/SeaWorld so there will be more FP for us.
I for one would like to give the MB a shot and am eagerly awaiting the FP+ system when all the bugs are worked out. Now if I can only find a way to get an ADR at BOG for 7PM when we are there.
Here's a report that showed up on another thread, posting time showed today at 9:15
"At DHS, in line for RnR fastpass line probably easily 20 minutes, stand by is 60, fastpasses are for 5pm. I booked or whatever ours last night, it shows up on my app but hen we tapped the band it said we didn't have one, I showed CM that it is listed on the app and her fixed it. Same thing happend with TSM last night. So far that has bee our only issue, since last Wednesday."
So that sounds like DHS might be very busy again today....
Putting together info from various sources, including people who say "we always come at this time of year and we've never seen it this crowded", I think Disney has done a lot of things to flatten out the differences between busy times and traditionally slow times. They can do this with specials like free dining or discounted room rates or special events like Star Wars weekends, Food and Wine, the various running events, etc.. Greater variation in school calendars also brings more people in at what used to be slow times.
Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas will always be the busiest, but the gap between those crazy times and others won't be what it used to be.
I will say that my daughter who is at WDW doing a professional internship commented on how relatively empty things were right after Labor Day when everyone was back in school.
