So! Finally the answer to what "Are you 23?" means

Anyone else logon to get the scoop??? Here it is:

03.10.09 - Your favorite walk is down Main Street, U.S.A., and your heart skips a beat at the sight of the world's most beloved mouse. You know the lyrics to every Disney song, and one of your favorite pastimes is wishing upon a star. You're a fan of all things Disney, and up until now you've had no official community to share your passion for Disney, to celebrate timeless Disney stories and traditions with other fans. That all changed today at The Walt Disney Company's Annual Shareholder Meeting in Oakland, California, when Disney President and CEO Bob Iger officially launched D23, the first official community for Disney fans.

Welcome to the world's first official community for Disney fans!
Named in honor of the year 1923, when Walt left Kansas City, headed for Hollywood and founded what would become the Disney Studios, D23 gives Disney fans VIP access to all things Disney through this brand-new Web site; Disney twenty-three, the club's beautiful quarterly magazine; and, in perhaps the most exciting news of all, the D23 Expo, a Disney fan mega event to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center this fall!

"At Disney, we're known for having a fantastic legacy built on timeless storytelling, beloved characters and unforgettable experiences," Bob said today at the meeting. "But equally important to the Disney legacy are our fans, who keep the magic alive by passing on Disney's timeless stories generation after generation. As a way of saying 'thank you,' we've created D23. We hope you'll join us as we celebrate our fans everywhere and share the magic of Disney's past, present and future."

The fun all begins when you sign up for membership. Members will receive a personalized membership card and a suitable-for-framing membership certificate featuring many of your favorite classic Disney characters from the hand of Disney Master Artist Dave Pacheco — the perfect one-of-a-kind collectible to adorn the walls of any fan's room. Members will also receive a special gift from the Walt Disney Archives Collection, a new line of merchandise created especially for D23.

Membership includes a one-year subscription to Disney twenty-three, an all-new quarterly publication that no Disney fan can to do without! "Our writers sit down with filmmakers like Jerry Bruckheimer, Tim Burton and John Lasseter; step behind he construction walls of our theme parks, peek into the planning rooms at Walt Disney Imagineering and, in short, take readers to places they've never been before," Steven Clark, Head of D23 and Executive Editor of Disney twenty-three, says.

Not only will D23 offer an exctiting yearlong schedule of magical, one-of-a-kind events — everything from advance screenings of Disney films to exclusive gatherings in Disney parks — but today's announcement of the first-ever D23 Expo is sure to thrill Disney fans the world over. This year's first-ever D23 Expo, to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center across the street from Disneyland September 10–13, promises to be the "ultimate Disney fan experience," Steven says. It will feature an all-star lineup of Disney Legends and contemporary visionaries representing every area of the Company who will lead fans down memory lane and draw back the curtain for an exclusive look at what's coming next. "Look for celebrity appearances, interactive exhibitions, sneak peeks, film screenings, one-of-a-kind merchandise, a collectors' forum and many other surprises still in the works," Steven adds.

The oversized Disney twenty-three magazine, free to members, brims with lavish photos and behind-the-scenes stories you can't find anywhere else.
D23 community members — or anyone else for that matter — can head to this Web site for behind-the-scenes features, up-to-the-minute Disney news and the latest news from insiders from every part of the Company. The site builds on the content of twenty-three magazine by publishing behind-the-scenes features and interviews with Disney stars of today and from the past, the latest celebrity images and breaking news fromevery part of Disney. There's also member-exclusive merchandise at Boutique 23, and even more exciting, this online experience will, for the first time ever, open the Walt Disney Archives to fans, sharing stories and treasures that previously only Disney employees and Cast Members could access.

"I think we're just beginning to scratch the surface of what D23 will deliver," Steven says. "We're off to a great start, but this is definitely only the beginning."

Why would anyone want to pay $75 when you can come here to get up-to-date news, hear the latest rumors, see the best pics, and read exciting Trip Reports??? :confused3

I don't understand why people are actually paying for this "charter membership"! :confused3 To me it seems like a complete waste of money! $16.00 for a magazine? :rolleyes1 All the insider tips I could ever want I could get on here for free. I just don't get it.

Well, some people like to collect "exclusive" merchandise and this club would be very appealing to them. But I was very surprised that Disney's idea of an online community did not have anything to do with a website where information is exchanged among fans or a message board like the successful fan sites. Guess it's plain to see their focus is on making more money (selling stuff) and not really providing a (free) service to their biggest "fans".

So, one you pay the membership fee, you get access to but have to pay AGAIN for entrance into their exclusive events???? Or is the entrance to their events free?????

Not really seeing the great benefit from joining....:confused3

Found the answer: a whopping $7 discount per day or $21 discount for 4 days.
What are they thinking!???
