So about this Hurricane - 10/7 Dream cancelled, 10/7 Magic Canadian, 10/8 now 10/9 Fantasy 6-night

I like that they are going to try and open up the airport by Sat. That makes me feel much better!! Now if they can get the port open, check the channels, clear the streets, get the Fantasy in to get the passengers from last weeks trip off, get food to the ship and get us on.... Will that be a miracle or maybe Disney magic?

Last night I was talking with my DH about the ships not being able to get into port how they are getting a great cruise! I would have loved to be on the ships!
When is your cruise?

What have your heard from Disney?
The guy from the weather central was in the area from Port Canaveral and his crew and him are gone because it's going to be unsafe!
It's all on how bad the clean up is going to be.....

Disney Fantasy

  • The October 8 Disney Fantasy sailing from Port Canaveral to the eastern Caribbean is expected to sail as scheduled. We will continue to monitor the weather and make any necessary adjustments.
While we always strive to deliver magical cruise vacations, nothing is more important to us than providing a safe experience for our guests and crew. We will continue to closely monitor Hurricane Matthew and provide updates as necessary.

My husband works for a petroleum tanking company (their trucks fill gas stations). There is a "rack" (where the trucks load gasoline to deliver) right at Port Canaveral and they probably won't be able to get in there to start filling and serving stations until at least Saturday afternoon and that is a best case scenario at this point. I really don't see the Dream/Fantasy coming back in until at least Sunday. Similar story in Miami area. The gas situation in very bad in Florida right now. This is very serious. He has worked there 9 years and never seen a disruption this large. Basically the only racks open are in Tampa but the transport companies won't come east until the storm passes.

Hello everyone from Costa Maya- my DH is making fun of me for posting on here given all that is going on- but this board helped me SOOO much before my cruise- I love it!!
So cool thing we are meeting up with the Fantasy tomorrow afternoon on the north side of Cuba and will be "staying together" for the duration of whatever this will bring.
Current information is still a Port Canaveral docking Saturday afternoon- Fantasy will likely get the Disney port since they have to load on people, Dream (us) will likely take whatever else is open.
The cast has been told they may drop us and try to head to Castaway (although given the current track I'd say that's doubtful) to help with any needed repairs.
Again, the communication has been excellent, they even added the weather channel to the TV this morning. Also I will from now on alway book Disney air- way better than the poor people trying to make phone calls (although Disney of course has waived phone fees).
I am very worried about our car at port Canaveral- while we are in the garage (really feel bad for people who are in the "upgraded" (uncovered) parking), I'm thinking a 9ft storm surge could definitely reach that.
But, overall- we are safe- our kids are being VERY well cared for (the Fantasy apparently shipped over their sea and shore day navigators for us) and they even flew in a main stage entertainer to Mexico yesterday (Jeff Taveggia- physical comedy) for tonight!
I'll try and answer any questions you have while I am able to use Mexico cellular (on Verizon it is only $2/day to use your talk/text/data).

Just fascinating to read! What is the general mood of the passengers?
I would say that while every hot tub and elevator ride has mentioned the weather and issues, we are all pretty happy. Even in line at guest services (replacing my 11 yr olds KTTW card), people were calm and pretty much just like- okay let's deal. They are arranging some Disney rooms (we may need one if our car is damaged at the port) and waiving phone calls.
Most people seem pretty happy and chill. (I talked to carnival, Norwegian and royal Caribbean people at Mr. Sanchos in Cozumel yesterday- they all seemed more frustrated than us.)

Wow, this is great information, I've really appreciated your posts! So nice to "hear" what is really going on in among all the speculation.

I'm glad they are taking such good care of you, although not surprised! Can't believe they flew in an entertainer! That's impressive. Going to be fun to be "with" the Fantasy. Take video on any horn battles!

We are sailing (or least hoping to) Oct 15th, staying at WDW for a couple of days beforehand. I know our cruise is not affected at this point, but just in case I just tried to reserve a few more days at WDW in case we can't sail. There is absolutely zero availability at ALL Disney resorts :(
Bummer so much for that "alternate" plan.
I believe that I read yesterday that WDW suspended taking any new reservations for the short term in case they needed to house DCL passengers or others at the resort such as those camping at Fort Wilderness. Rooms may be opened up as the storm passes.

On the news here in the DFW area they showed convoys of trucks from the electric companies heading to Florida to assist in the cleanup. I think the spokesperson said they will spend the night in Mississippi and then head closer on Friday to go where needed after Matthew passes. I'm sure they will all be needed.

I don't foresee a ton of flights getting in and out of Orlando on Saturday. I have only experienced it recently from winter storms but when airports are shut for winter storms it takes a good week to get everything back to normal. The big reasons being that planes that are cancelled are now just sitting not in Orlando so it will cause a ripple effect across the entire country. Thankfully most Orlando flights go back and forth between their initial city and Orlando but if you are on a line that does multiple stops it could throw things off (think coast to coast flight).

Not cruising info, but...

Tweet from TouringPlans.com: "Walt Disney World parks to close Oct 6 at 5pm. Will not open Oct 7."

Booo... I get it though, but man that sucks. I hope that DCL says something sooner than later.

Hey all! New to the board, hoping to get some solid advice. I'm on the 10/10 Disney Dream cruise that is supposed to go to Nassau and Castaway Cay, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, chances are pretty slim that the cruise actually stops there now right?

Also, I planned to drive in from TN starting Friday morning, should I adjust or get as close as possible to Florida and then find a good place to spend Friday evening at? The dilemma is I have Universal Orlando tickets for Saturday, I wonder if it'll be up and running or if we can rebook for Sunday?

I know this is a lot but I do hope to get some helpful suggestions. Thanks all.
WDW will be closed on October 7, and I would expected Universal to follow suit. Possible that they'll be closed that Saturday as well and haven't decided yet...FYI.

EDIT: Universal WILL be closed on Friday. The weekend could be dicey for any of the parks.

Yeah. I think we will hear some stuff starting tomorrow. Hopefully there is someone not based in CC tracking all this so that decisions can be made. Disney may continue the cruise even if flights are only trickling in but the ship will not be near capacity at all.

Thank you for taking the time to post this from the Dream! I great to be able to get firsthand report as to what is going on on the Dream. I'm sure you are enjoying you extra days and it will be fun to meet up with the Fantasy! I was on the Magic in March and we sailed next to the Dream for a little while heading out of Nassau. It was cool looking out and seeing another DCL ship.

I want to book excusrsions for Canada. Will they open them? Or do I have to wait until I'm on the cruise??

Also what are the chances of room upgrades with people cancelling?

This may not be helpful at all, but we just did the wbta on the magic and stopped at Sydney and Halifax. If you're looking for a good excursion in Sydney, the Cabot trail tour is amazing!!

Glad to hear you are being well taken care of! And I agree, once you meet up, we'll need some video of the horn battle :) Glad everyone is safe and out of harms way on the ships!
