So about this Hurricane - 10/7 Dream cancelled, 10/7 Magic Canadian, 10/8 now 10/9 Fantasy 6-night

If they require you to go through insurance, Disney doesn't lose anything. They will do everything they can to sail the ship to prevent any financial loss. That includes moving the ship to another port for departure. If the ship sails, then they keep the money. Yes, there will be upset passengers, but Disney will not care much about that.
I realize that, but most cruise lines are doing it as good will gesture. You may take a financial hit in the short run, but in the long run your probably better off. Cruises don't sell as well in hurricane season to start with. If people lose money or have to wait weeks to get a refund through insurance claims they are more apt to not cruise this time of year again.

Hello everyone from Costa Maya- my DH is making fun of me for posting on here given all that is going on- but this board helped me SOOO much before my cruise- I love it!!
So cool thing we are meeting up with the Fantasy tomorrow afternoon on the north side of Cuba and will be "staying together" for the duration of whatever this will bring.
Current information is still a Port Canaveral docking Saturday afternoon- Fantasy will likely get the Disney port since they have to load on people, Dream (us) will likely take whatever else is open.
The cast has been told they may drop us and try to head to Castaway (although given the current track I'd say that's doubtful) to help with any needed repairs.
Again, the communication has been excellent, they even added the weather channel to the TV this morning. Also I will from now on alway book Disney air- way better than the poor people trying to make phone calls (although Disney of course has waived phone fees).
I am very worried about our car at port Canaveral- while we are in the garage (really feel bad for people who are in the "upgraded" (uncovered) parking), I'm thinking a 9ft storm surge could definitely reach that.
But, overall- we are safe- our kids are being VERY well cared for (the Fantasy apparently shipped over their sea and shore day navigators for us) and they even flew in a main stage entertainer to Mexico yesterday (Jeff Taveggia- physical comedy) for tonight!
I'll try and answer any questions you have while I am able to use Mexico cellular (on Verizon it is only $2/day to use your talk/text/data).
My DH and I where talking last night and saying how great it would be to be on the Dream right now.... then here getting things ready for a Hurricane!

But if you were on the Dream without things being made ready for the hurricane back home, would you really enjoy your time? Hope you stay safe and will enjoy the Dream in the future far away from any hurricanes!!

It looks like Port Canaveral is going to take a direct hit on Friday. Matthew will be a category 4 with maximum winds at 145 mph and wind gust at 175 mph. Hopefully, the port terminal will sustain little damage.

And to think they just went and replaced the roof and a/c units if I remember correctly.

On the news here in the DFW area they showed convoys of trucks from the electric companies heading to Florida to assist in the cleanup. I think the spokesperson said they will spend the night in Mississippi and then head closer on Friday to go where needed after Matthew passes. I'm sure they will all be needed.

I am a 40+ year native Floridian, and it was always something to see the convoys of power trucks from all over the country come through, ready to help. They also would stage construction and clean-up equipment in Wal-Mart and Home Depot parking lots, so it would be ready to go as soon as the storm was over. Honestly, while I have some complaints about various parts of FL government, the storm prep and clean up has always been pretty smooth, considering what they have had to deal with.

Here is the worst case flooding according to the NHC, for now, they just updated the data, and it got 2 feet worse is some areas than this morning. I'm surprised it is not worse for PC. Perhaps they open the locks or something. Brilliant design for PC. Water can flow west thru the channel out the locks into the river. It appears worse for those on the rivers on the back side of Matthew.

Good luck to all.

I just wonder if the port will be up and running on Saturday? Is that really a possibility?

We are working with the guests onboard to assist them with their travel arrangements.

Guests are invited to call us at 1-866-325-3905 or 407-566-7032 beginning Monday, October 10, to book a future cruise at a discount.
Disney Magic
  • The October 7 sailing of the Disney Magic from New York is being changed to a Canadian itinerary, with plans to visit Sydney, Nova Scotia; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Saint John, New Brunswick. While we always strive to deliver magical cruise vacations, nothing is more important to us than providing a safe experience for our guests and crew. We will continue to closely monitor Hurricane Matthew and provide updates as necessary.

They could get in Saturday evening. And it is always easier to get people off a ship and processed than having a check-in terminal working.

Yesterday I had to cancel my January Disney Cruise and reschedule for a later date (October 2017) because of work commitments. I was upset at first but later thought that it might have been a blessing in disguise because how much could these ports recover after Hurricane Matthew goes through.

Anything is possible. Years ago, there was a link on Port Canaverals webpage that detailed the storm preparations and operations. Basically once the storm passes, the Port Canaveral FD, will send people out to look around. If they agree that the area is safe, they will reopen the port. If there is unsafe conditions, they'll wait until that condition is rectified.
