What brands work for kids ages 13-16? My 2 younger one need everything-clothing wise. Both are taller for their age 5' 8' and 6'-average builds.
What do your kids like?

My dd has a Scott jacket and her pants are Burton. She doesn't have any complaints.

Not a whole lot different from skiing. Honestly, even when we lived in NH and upstate NY (in the Adirondacks), I still got snow pants and jackets at Walmart. You have to shop early, though, as they sell out fast.

My family is also huge fans of LL Bean stuff. I would get it when I could--at their outlet store. It's very high quality, but pricey for growing kids. Still, it's worth it if you live in a "long winter" state.

More importantly, make sure they layer. Long underwear, pants, then snow pants. Thermal underwear is fairly cheap--get it at Walmart, unless you're going to use it a lot. then, it might be worth splurging for the expensive stuff. My DH (former ski patroller) swore by silk long underwear.

My family wear Columbia winter gear, it's the only brand that keeps all of us warm in Alberta. My hubby has Burton for when he boards in Vancouver or at the end of the season

We have some Spyder pants that are amazingly well made with a gore-tex lining. The kids stay really really dry with them.

Our kids have Columbia jackets and Burton pants. We've always had good luck with both brands and they have held up very well.

Most brands aren't really that much better than another. Snowboarding clothing seems more like a style choice more than anything else. Generally baggier with loud patterns that look different than skiwear.

I don't snowboard, but have bought lots of outdoor clothing and shop based on price. We have local places like a small sporting goods chain that has a great closeout and manufacturers' samples section. Once I got The North Face Gore-Tex wi term pants for $50. We also have The North Face Outlet, but they have limited locations.

I rather like shopping online at Sierra Trading Post and Altrec. They have specials and special offers if you're on their mailing list.
