Kinda quiet in here today. . . So here's a little Snowbird trivia for you! :cool1:

July 1st will be our 2 year Snowbird anniversary!! It all started right here ~ http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1873044

It's funny to read through it and how we were all obsessing about whether or not a good deal would come out for January and then we ended up with the Buy 4 Get 3 plus a $200 Gift Card!!

Sarah~ Have a ball!!! PICTURES!!! please!!
Shelly (red) Are you packed?
Mama Snowbird!! I know...2 years!!! how funny!! I went to buy a bathing suit today...wasn't toooo painful...just can't believe how much they are!!! I got a couple, but my fave was a brown polka dot w/a belt...sorta 1940s/50s styles....cute! So....it's pretty hot here still...we did get a good short rain here...so I didn't have to water to day.
Hey, has anyone heard from Wendy?

Hey, has anyone heard from Wendy?

I hate swimsuit shopping. There are few things in life that make me feel more terrible about myself than that.

So yep, I'm packed, just have my last minute stuff left. Flight in the morning to Phoenix for the night, then Thursday it's off to Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!:cool2:

Have a great few weeks birdies!

Sarah, Shelly, I hope you both have WONDERFUL trips! :yay:
We can't wait to hear all about them when you get back!

So here's my quick-weekend-in-London mini-TR...

DH cut it a little closer than he should have (not unusual for him! ) but made it on to his flight from Virginia to Belgium. I checked before we left home Saturday morning and saw that his flight was a bit delayed, so we didn't leave the house until 7am to go pick him up. As it turned out we could have slept in a bit, because it took forever before he was out of baggage claim/customs. We've been chatting about DHs who overpack...well DH had checked our largest suitcase and two huge boxes! (in addition to carrying on a rollaboard suitcase, duffel bag, and laptop!) In his defense, he HAD to pack a lot--two complete uniforms, one with boots and one with shoes, a suit and different shoes for his cousin's wedding, and so on--plus, of course, he brought back a bunch of stuff we can't get here. Like several boxes of my hair color  , two yard rakes from Sears (you know, Craftsman rakes, our old ones broke and they have a lifetime guarantee, so he took the broken ones back and exchanged them!), and (Kim-Monny, you might be familiar with these) an entire case of Utz crab-seasoned potato chips! :rotfl: One of the boxes had been sent to the cargo department instead of checked baggage. It was the box with the chips, which we needed for the weekend trip, so we had to go to the cargo place to get the box! So, finally out of the airport and back home. Oh, of course we were all very happy to see DH, and he was very happy to see us! :lovestruc :cloud9:

Our friends were here waiting to pick us up in their big SUV. It was the dad and his 13-and 12-year-old boys. The 12-year-old is one of our DS12's best buddies. DH did a quick repack of some stuff for the weekend (just the rollaboard suitcase this time :thumbsup2) and we were on our way. From here it's about 2 hours to Calais, France, to get the Eurotunnel train. It's really cool--you drive right onto the train and wait in (or next to) your vehicle as the train goes through the tunnel under the English Channel. There's also a passenger train that goes through the tunnel, right from London to either Paris or Brussels, but we've never done that. Anyway, half an hour through the tunnel, then about an hour drive up to London. We got to the hotel around mid-afternoon. Both dads took a little rest, while the five kids and I went down to the pool for a bit. Indoor pool, fortunately--it was probably in the 50s that day, and in the 60s on Sunday. Then, rested and refreshed, we took a bus (double decker, we had the front seats on the top!) to the arena.

The O2 arena is pretty impressive. It is fairly new--I think it was built for the millennium celebration--and is a big entertainment complex with bars, restaurants, roller rink, cinema, and other stuff in addition to the main concert venue. We went and ate at a British diner type of place, which was pretty good, and then wandered through a little exhibit of photos from past Bon Jovi tours. Then it was time for the guys to to into the arena. I had been thinking that I didn't really mind missing the concert, but I have to admit when DD and I started to head back to the hotel, I felt really bummed! :sad2: DD and I had a quiet evening in the hotel, watched some World Cup, gave DD a bath and got her to sleep (which is always challenging in a hotel). The guys got back about 12:30--the boys said "It was awesome! We'll tell you about it in the morning," and immediately crashed.

So in the morning over breakfast I got more details on the concert. :rockband: All six guys agreed that it was excellent! :thumbsup2 They discussed what was played, what wasn't played, the special effects, what the best parts were, and on and on. DS12 said he knew every song they played except two, which were not Bon Jovi songs. :) The opening act for this show was One Republic, which we weren't familiar with but which happens to be the very favorite band of the 13-year-old in our group, so that was neat that he got to see them also. Anyway, it sounds like it was great and is highly recommended if Bon Jovi is coming to an arena near you!

In the afternoon we took the Tube into central London. DH wanted to eat fish n chips, so we went back to the place we ate on our previous trip. It's called Rock and Sole Plaice, at 47 Endell St., near the Covent Garden tube stop. Good food. The other family had tickets for the London Dungeon from a previous trip that they hadn't been able to use, so the six guys headed off to do that. The 13- and 12-year olds seemed to enjoy it, while the dads and 10-year-old said once was plenty, or maybe a bit too much. ;) So it sounds like that doesn't need to be a priority for a short visit to London. Meanwhile, DD and I went to the British Museum, which is huge and very large in scope (covering the entire history of civilization). I could easily spend a week there. We just saw a couple of highlights--the Rosetta Stone, original sculptures from the Parthenon (which are controversial, as the Greek government wants them back). We met up with the guys around 5:00 to head back home.

So that was our fun weekend! For those planning a trip to London (Sarah, sorry it's probably already too late for you), we obviously didn't do a lot of sightseeing on this trip. On our previous trip we visited Buckingham Palace, which is open during part of the summer while the Queen is away, and which was very interesting and worth doing if you can. We also visited the Natural History museum, which has some good dinosaurs and an interesting building, and a lot of dusty stuffed animals (you know, formerly live animals, not plush ;) ) in glass cases. Next door to that is the Science museum, which our kids LOVED and we spent all afternoon there. They have a big hands-on area to play around in. Sheree, your girls might enjoy that. The Tower of London is supposed to be very interesting but we haven't done it yet--it's on our list for next time. Taking the tube is very quick and easy, generally clean, and I didn't have any hesitation taking it by myself with DD and a stroller. People even offered to help me on the stairs where there was no "lift", as they call it. London is a great place to visit, highly recommended! :thumbsup2

So that TR wasn't very mini after all, was is? :confused3

That sounds so great! I'm glad that your family had a good time and happy that your DH is with you again. Thanks for the tips about London. :thumbsup2 I'm going to get some guide books so I can do some planning. (After WDW!)

Wow! we like One Republic also...in fact, one of their songs (can't remember which one..)is what our youth play when the kids are coming in and milling around before service in their building on Wed nights..don't know a lot of their stuff...but the few i know are pretty good! Glad you had such a good trip and got hubby home safe and sound!!!

I am doing a mountain of laundry again....(between loads!) and me and the little 2 are watching Peter Pan~ Gosh I love this movie!!!

It's morning here in europe, so I get to be the first to say...
Happy Birthday Meghan! :bday:party:
Hope you have a great day!

Hey, it's my mother-in-law's birthday today too. Have to remind DH to call her. ;)

Yep, we listened to some One Republic on the drive home and I thought they were good too. :thumbsup2 The day after we got home, DS12 added some to his iPod.

Thank you!!! Even though the weather is crappy today (rainy and windy) and my DH is out of town for the day, I'm going to have a great day. Nothing is better than lounging around the house with Madison. They made me a cake last night, but it didn't work out too good. Tony didn't let it cool enough before he started frosting it. Well, it kind of crumbled all over the place but it still tastes good!!!

OneRepublic is so good. They're very talented musicians and gifted songwriters. The lead singer has written many songs for other singers as well. On their new album, check out "Marchin On". It's awesome!

I guess I will be goin to check on him this afternoon when the kids are finished with Guitar.:sad2: He doesn't mind me at all!!! I just got onto him about that too!!!

Man....Disney must really want me to come back this year. I just got another Monster pin to a different e-mail address.

Too bad it is really not possible...

I hope y'all are having a great summer!

Hey Becca  How are you feeling?

Hi Snowbirds! It's been a while and I started going through DIS withdrawal.

Not much to report here- hot weather has settled in. I drove through a hail storm the other day and my minivan looks terrible. Looks like I parked near a golf course. :headache: We'll be taking it Tuesday to get fixed. There goes some of my Disney fund.

Jason's Dad has decided to go for surgery. They scheduled him July 30th. It's kind of a last ditch effort but he wants to try everything possible.

We saw TS3 this past Saturday and I bawled my eyes out. It was such a great movie and I loved how they tied everything in. I'm counting the days until it's out on DVD.

Andrew has been having a blast being home and we've been enjoying some programs at our local library. Today's was really neat. The National Aquarium in Baltimore came to talk about sharks and brought some fun artifacts like shark teeth and a jaw. :thumbsup2

Shawna- Your landscaping looks wonderful! Sorry you lost your palms over the winter. Love the flag!

Meghan- Happy Birthday and congrats on your new gig!!!!!!

Sarah- Hope your trip is going wonderfully!

Shelly- Are we almost at 2 years already????? WOW!!!! I wish they'd offer that B4G3 with $200 again. That sure was SWEET!

Becca- Sorry you can't use the pin. How are you and baby feeling?

Hope I didn't miss anyone- I'm kinda hurrying since another Tstorm is rolling in and my power keeps flickering. I unplugged my laptop in case a big ole surge comes through the line and my laptop battery is almost done.

Hey Kim! :goodvibes I was just thinking about you and that I hadn't seen you on the boards for several days.

Sorry about your van. That stinks.

I will be praying for you FIL and his surgery.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the summer with the kids. The kids and I have been enjoying ours to. In-fact we just got home from seeing Toy Story 3 about an hour ago!!:cool1:

We had those nasty thunderstorms yesterday evening. It was so dark and the thunder was so loud!

Hey Snowbirds - I've been off the DIS all day and just wanted to hop on before bed and say

:bday: to Meghan!!!

Shawna - I hope your pawpaw is okay.

Kim - I'll be thinking of your FIL - best wishes and prayers that it goes well.

The girls and I postponed our camping trip by one night. We were supposed to go tomorrow and camp two nights, but the weather looks pretty rough tomorrow night, so we're just going Sat. morning for one night. Then I have to go to a bridal shower on Sunday late afternoon.
Nothing like keeping busy, eh?

Have a great day Meghan! :bday:

Thanks! It was great!

Happy Birthday to You....:cake:

The weather changed a lot today, but by mid-afternoon, it was blue skies and sunny. :goodvibes This is Madison 2nd year playing soccer (VERY recreational) and she finally scored her 1st goal ever tonight! It was awesome.

I'll be sure to keep your PawPaw in my prayers.

Well.. I guess he's okay,...I called today and nobody called back! So, he was probably outside working!!!!! He is soooooo hardheaded...maybe that's where I get it! thanks for the concern and prayers! Ya'll are such a comfort to me!I just love ya'll!!!
Kim~ I am sorry about your FIL having to go thru this. I will be praying for him!! I hate that you got in that hail also---we have only had to drive thru it here once...we just don't get it very often and usually the weather is sooo bad that we are at home and don't have to deal with it.

Sherry~ you need to go to Disney to rest!!! LOL!!!

Thanks for the prayers for Jason's Dad everyone.
If you wouldn't mind sending some prayers out to my BIL's cousin's family. They lost their son to cancer last night. He's been fighting it for 3 years now. He was only 13yrs old. It was heartwrenching to hear my sister tell me about what his parents went through telling their son goodbye and comforting him in his last moments. His mom held him and reminded him of how safe heaven is and how he would not be in pain anymore and that it was okay to go. He nodded his head and took a few more breaths. I've spent most of my morning fighting back tears and hugging my children. It's so unfair.
