I think you're right Shelley. I think we'll do December. The only reason John wants to go in October is for all the candy. I'll just have to remind him that he can get that here. I just wish we could be there on Christmas since it seems that Edward James Olmos is the narrator for the CP for Christmas Eve and day. Everyone in my family loves Battlestar Galatica and the kids would love getting to see "Admiral Adama".

Well the boys were about as much help as a foam hammer while building a house.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I'm still trying to plan our trip to Disneyland Paris--they have a great offer for kids under 12 free PLUS free dining (first time they've ever offered it, I think) January through March, so I'm trying to pick the best time to go. I asked the boys this weekend, and they said, "When will it be warmer?" Good point! We were a bit chilly at WDW this past January, and from what I hear DLP can be bitterly cold with REAL SNOW (which would be pretty to see, but if it's a damp, bone-chilling cold, it would be harder to appreciate the parks!). The boys have a Friday off school at the end of March, so I think we might go then for a three-day weekend. But I really need to get ready for the trip starting THIS WEEKEND  before I plan the next vacation! :upsidedow I finally did make a couple lists for the upcoming trip, though. Now I just need to start crossing things off them... :rolleyes1

Kim~ As far as picking between Oct and Dec....I think a lot of it is depending on your preferences...we have been twice in Oct..the first time the crowds were fairly low and the weather was great. Second time the crowds were a bit larger and the heat/humidity was still there. Since we are from the same area, you understand how disappointed I was!! We have enough of that here, don't want to spend vacation with it that weather. December(the first part) is great crowd wise..weather is all over the place from year to year...we have worn shorts and tees one day, then had to buy tobaggans the next!!! I would just pick Dec.....but that's me. Now that I have said that, watch us go for Halloween next year!!!!:lmao:

Is that the same as a jacket? Never heard the term before except as a sled. :confused3

Sheree~ Ha!! You know!! You wear them on your head!!! Did I spell it terribly wrong? I was worn out when I posted that!!!!!!!

Up here in the northland we call them HATS! Why do people have to complicate things?:confused3

That's the American English language for you! Plus, such a huge country, size-wise, that it's always fun to see the language shifts. I grew up in MA and started college in NJ. Never mind the accents, the different turns of phrases were something else... and those states aren't far apart! Coming to Michigan was almost like picking up a new culture. :)

Exactly! I grew up in Minnesota where we think we don't have accents, but do say our "o"s very weird. Then I went to college in Massachusetts!! OH MY! How extreme! Good thing I didn't move to the south next! I'm back to MN for good!

There are LOTS of regional MN accents! My DH and I can tell what part of the state people are from by how they talk. Michigan also has a fabulous accent - part Chicago, part Canadian. Boy, some Michiganders get mad when you tell them they have an accent.

Then I point out I'm from MA. (Occasionally, they get madder because I DO pronounce my R's, despite saying I'm from MA)

It is so funny - because lots of people think we all talk like the people in the movie Fargo! I actually love to hear other accents and try to figure out where they're from. My mom is from Massachusetts and despite living in MN for over 40 years, it still can be heard in certain words!

We definitely never say "Ya'll" here. We say "you guys".

My MIL *does* talk like Fargo, ya shure ya know? It cracks me up. And my aunt? Well, it's not Margaret, it's Maaahgrit. She also pahks a cah. My parents aren't too bad.

I said "wicked" a LOT when I started college. It was mocked out of me in days. It's finally creeped into Michigan. I'm on a one woman crusade to not let it spread.

Hi Snowbirdies
How are y'all, you guys or whatever the language is in your part of the world ;)

Sarah- glad to hear your staples are out- you'll be on your way to dancing a little jig in no time :yay:

I'm hanging in there. Haven't had much time to DIS lately. 2 of my daycare kids went from part time to full time so it's been B-U-S-Y around here! Not that I'm gong to argue- it's extra cash for my Disney piggy bank ;)

Hope everyone is well!

Hello Snowbirds!

How has everyone been?

Sorry I haven't checked in for awhile. Things are very busy here with school and soccer and Disney planning!

10 DAYS to go!!! :cool1:

Hope all is well with everybody and everyone is staying healthy! :goodvibes

BTW - I would have thought a toboggan was a sled too! :confused3:rotfl:

Well, for us, hats are Cowboy hats or baseball caps!! Ha!! We don't get cold enough for your kind of hats very often..in fact, my kids don't usually even own one!!!!! Sarah...that is sooo true...of course, I don't think I have an accent either!!! People have asked me and my older son if we are from North Carolina:confused3 How weird is that? We are waaaay far from there! But, I guess sound wise that is our closest neighbor!! We don't sound anything like people from Lousiana usually! And I am 45 min from them.
I loved the Pahks a Cah....JFK for sure!!! Is that a New England Coast thing or what? I am an accent nut! I love to imitate all kinds..dh freaks out cuz I can imitate his NJ cousins and he can NOT do it to save his life!! Of course, most of the time I speak in a British accent to the kids. They love it... Just some of my Mary Poppins childhood fantasy!! They are all good at imitating accents too...it's sooo funny!!!!

Thank you very much!

Sarah...that is sooo true...of course, I don't think I have an accent either!!! OH YES YOU DO!! I HAVE HEARD IT!People have asked me and my older son if we are from North Carolina:confused3 How weird is that? We are waaaay far from there! But, I guess sound wise that is our closest neighbor!! My DH was doing Yoda today. He has a scratchy voice and for some reason thought it would be funny to talk to the kids like Yoda. DD6 was not impressed!

Ha!!! I didn't say I don't...just that I personally don't think I do!!!:lmao: I try to notice what words specifically sound southern...but I don't know. It's just toooo ingrained!!!! I know Ya'll is a big southern 'thang'!! Thats another one we just can't shake!!!! don't know how that came to be!!!??

I think a big one I use is "fixin". Like "I'm fixin to do it". Another one I use a lot, that drives my DH nuts is "Jones-in", I use it like I'm craving something. "Like I'm Jones-in for some chocolate." I use y'all a lot as well. Oh and I use thang a lot too.

The hat thing for me depends on what kind of hat. If it's the kind you wear in the winter with flaps over the ears, I call that a tobaggan. Everything else is a hat.

Another one that I know is different depending on where you're from is coke. When I go into a gas station and I ask if anyone wants a coke, for me I actually get a Dr. Pepper and the kids get Root Beer. Instead of saying "pop" or "soda" or whatever I just say coke even if I mean Dr. Pepper.

Oh Yeah, the beverage thing is so funny! In MN most people call it pop, but I say soda because when I was in college in MA, I got laughed at! Usually when I'm asked what I would like to drink, I just tell them specifically what I want. I knew someone who was from Atlanta (home of coke) and EVERYTHING was coke. Even if you wanted orange, you said Orange Coke. Now how odd is that?:lmao:

Sheree...that is hilarious!!! Yeah, I say we need a coke too...then when we order we say just want we want...like Root Beer or whatever. We do the 'fixin to' thing here a lot also!!!

The pahk the cah thing is definitely more of a coastal New England thing. You don't see a lot of it in Western MA and it's touch and go in Central MA.

My DH grew up with pop. I grew up with soda. He says soda now. My favorite story is when his brother was visiting us in Boston. He asked the waitress what kind of pop they had. What? she asked. "What kind of pop?" "Huh?" I interpreted: Soda. Oh, language!

Congrats on 10 days, Mama Snowbird! I hope you and your family have a GREAT trip!! :goodvibes:goodvibes

Today was a quiet day. Like yesterday and probably like tomorrow. My only excitement is that I have no more shower restrictions (other than "don't put weight on your leg"). No more battling to keep the right leg dry. Whew! How to feel like a human in 3...2...1...

I got my post-op appt with the surgeon and it's for November 23rd - the week of Thanksgiving. No work for me until then!

And then, today? The PA that I saw on Monday called. She said that she'd left a note for my surgeon about my knee stiffness and he told her to tell me that I should leave my brace unlocked all the time. She recommended I lock it when I go to hockey games though.

It was bizarre, because (with the exception of the surgeon bit) it was word for word the conversation we'd had on Monday. And clearly she was listening, too, or she wouldn't have mentioned hockey. Oh well. She was probably doing as she was told.

I am starting to get stir crazy, though!!

Good morning everyone! I haven't been on the Dis since last week (gasp!) because I've been so busy. I hope everyone is doing well. The weather keeps changing around here and my sinuses sure don't like it. Maddie has had a cough for a few weeks and I'm wondering if it will ever go away! She's so annoyed by it. Anyways....I just wanted to pop in and say hello. Have a great day!
