~Snowbird Chat 2~

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July! Sadly, now I'm closer to 35 than I am to 34. I'm cleanly in my mid-30s! :lmao:

And, hey! Six days to go! Hopefully this time, next week, I'll be in the Magic Kingdom!!

Hey all!! We had a great 4th..no fireworks, but it was still a blast!! Still hot..should get some rain hopefully this week....all our kids stayed with one of our best friends Sun night and Mike and I got to just hang around yesterday morning by the pool!!! Don't know if we have ever done that....the only other time they have all been gone at once was in the wintertime when he had Knee surgery!! And that wasn't for fun!LOL..so, we had fun, got some sun...he actually got a bit burned..but it was so sweet of my friend and her hubby to do that for us! love them!! They are precious!
Kim!! Yay for Disney in Nov!!!! You better at least book a one night so you can do some ADRS!!!! Or does it work that way with the camper thing? which I assume you are bringing, right? And we come in on the 11th so .....DISNEY MEET!!!!!! And we are at the CR, so it'll be close to ya!!!!!! I am sooo excited!!!!!
Sarah....my bday is this month, I will be 37! So,... I am closer to40 than 30:scared1::eek: Shock & Horror!!
Well,..we start cracking some books today!! Letting the kids sleep as late as they want today, we were up late....so after lunch we gotta at least look thru our books and start the intro's, some review, yada yada yada..but..that makes us closer to Disney time!!!
Y'all have a great short week and enjoy your summer with your kiddos!!!

Kim - :yay: for planning for November!!

The rest of you younguns - just carry on with your chatter about being in your thirties... blah blah blah.

SOME of us are just happy to be closer to 40 than to 50. :rolleyes1

DH was going on over the weekend about how he found air fare for about $200 RT (which is really good for here) the first weekend in December to Orlando. Just for a quick 4 day trip. OY. I'd love to go back and hit another party at MK and stuff. But ONLY if we don't go to Europe. I just heard through a friend that my friend might not be in London that long now. They are training her husband's replacement! But I emailed her and will see her in person here in a couple weeks, so I can verify. If she's not in London, we're not going to Europe. stay tuned!

We're going to stay at CBR again. We went over all the pros and cons of taking the camper and decided not to go that route- it would take longer to get there since we'd have to drive slower, wear and tear on the van to pull on it, more money in gas, etc. I'm happy! I'd go in the camper if it means I'm going to Disney but I'd rather be spoiled staying in a resort! I've already booked Ohana's and Chef Mickey for breakfast. I'm not sure if they do offer free dining if it will be QSDDP or regular DDP for moderates so I didn't want to go wild and crazy making ADR's. I'm hoping for QSDDP- it fits our family better. We don't like too many sit downs.

Europe...Disney World...both sound fun to me! Hope you get it figured out!

When I got a PIN for this summer, it was for free QSDDP, and we're also at CBR. It seems to be the way it's going these days. We only ended up paying the difference for the regular plan, which made it totally worth my time! ;)

As for packing - packed? My husband would say this to you: :lmao:

First, I spent a week arguing with him about clothes for Disney (like: No, heavy cotton shorts are NOT a good idea in the summer Florida heat and humidity. And if you dare wear them, I am not going to listen to you complain about being uncomfortable nor slow down because of them). Then, we bought better shorts!

Next, he bought a new pair of black sneakers, which are horribly geeky anyway... then he threw away his grey ones. Now, I'm struggling to get him to pack a back-up pair.

So, thus far, I've collected his flip-flops, our sunblock, some snacks, and a nightlight. That's it. And I've done laundry, threatening him with his life if he wears anything he needs for the trip! :thumbsup2 I have located and made sure all my shorts fit and bought tank tops, but that's about it. Oh, I did buy some new hair elastics and those elastic headbands.

(Yes, it feels like I'm trying to get an uncooperative teen to go... it's just how he rolls) (If I get bored tonight, I'll probably start a better packing pile!)

Well, Sarah - that's a start! 6 days!!!!! That deserves some dancing bananas!
:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Kim - way to go on CBR and having some ADRs already!

I just got an email from my friend and she's here as of yesterday and says they will not be leaving London before late summer of 2012!!! YAY! We are going!!! (unless some horrible catastrophe happens! ssshhh - did I just jinx it?)

Now I get to start planning and watching the prices and the exchange rate!! So far it looks like airfare will be about $1000 pp. Hasn't gone down in quite a while. we probably won't book that until fall sometime. I want that paid for before Christmas. Apparently we don't have to book a hotel at DLP too far in advance either, so we're watching for the deals and I'm lurking on the DLP board as well.

Hey Snowbirds! :goodvibes

I hope everyone is doing well and had a great 4th of July weekend!

Sarah -- you better get packing!!! :yay:

Kim -- I hope your November trip works out! :wizard:

I heard that on the radio. The whole thing is just so sad.

He's a Sheltie. :lovestruc I got a Sheltie when I was 23 (before the DH and the kids). He was the best dog ever!! He was so great with the kids and the perfect fit for our family. Sadly he passed in March. It has been a rough time for all of us. We feel like we lost a family member.

At first we said no more pets. Then we started looking at other kinds of dogs (thinking a Sheltie would make us too sad), but we just weren't feeling it. Eventually we decided that a Sheltie was the only dog for us and now we have Jack!

Awww...look at that sweetie pie. It's really hard here, because a lot of the soldiers adopt pets, then decide they don't want to pay the money to bring them home, so they abandon them.:sad1: I'm the kind of person who researches and thinks through EVERYTHING, so it's really hard for me to be around people who do things on complete whim. :headache: Obviously, there's a place for it in life. I'm all for last minute trips to Disney.:thumbsup2 But things that require a certain level of responsibility? No way. Think about the ramifications before you take another living being's life into your hands. I wish I could help some of these animals, but we're really not in the position to do so, and honestly they're probably pretty messed up considering their previous owners, which isn't something I would be comfortable taking on with a baby in the house.

Oh...then these brilliant people who adopt pets while living in a high rise apartment complex get all bent out of shape when the landlord won't give them their deposit back. Seriously people, you're going to damage the property of someone else, then expect them to just let you walk away and absorb all the cost themselves?:teacher:

Today I need to figure out where I'm going to buy some elastic. I want to make a diaper cover for Gideon to wear in his smash cake pictures. I have fabric for it, but need elastic. Logan and I were going to go to the place that I know that sells it over the weekend, but opted to stay home and clean instead, which was definitely needed. Now I need to see if I can find someone to go with me sometime this week, or find somewhere else I can get some. I don't need a lot, so I could probably buy some off someone.

Sheree...YIPPEEEEEE!!! You have to go there before she leaves!! So...what month do you think it'll be...I want to go sooooo bad,..and if I do we'll prob have to skip Disney for that year...but hey,...for Europe!!! I could do it! I think.....
Shelly...your little guy is a doll!!!! My kids saw his pic last week and started the new-dog-fever for them!!
Sarah...yes,pack something!! We,your compulsive friends, are gonna freak out if you delay!! LOL!!
Well....we had a good start for our first day of :teacher:...started slow, had a productive day...ds15 said his Chemistry book actually looked cool! And,...we had a good long steady set of showers today...and it should continue for the afternoons this week.
And yeah...the casey anthony thing is just sick...makes you wonder what she'll do next

We will be going March 2012. Spring break in London and Paris!

We will maybe get back to WDW in October 2012 during our fall break. MNSSHP! We will have some DVC points to use so...

Shelly, oh my goodness! So CUTE!! I admit it, I squeed when I saw the pictures and then was so happy to find out he was your's!

Progress on the packing! My husband admitted his black sneakers were dorky and will be wearing white ones. He even picked out two pair today. I was surprised!

I had a hysterical anxiety dream about my toiletry kit (it involved forgetting it, church, parking, and escaping cats), so I checked that out tonight and put it ON my sink counter. Hopefully I won't forget it, though if I do, there will be nothing about church and escaping cats!

This week's "insane family" story: my brother informed me that he and his wife aren't going to use a stroller in Disney, with their baby. In July. They figured they'd wear her. In July. Which means she has no shade, is against another body... and how are we supposed to watch her so they can ride rides? My parents, I think, will force that issue a bit.

I'm down to three more days at work. Hurry up, weekend!

Sarah,...only thing I can think of is they are hoping that no stroller will = less problems in the crowds...but they still have to lug a diaper bag...and dang, she's gonna be sweating!!! Poor baby! But, maybe she's used to being carried that way and they are all comfortable with it.... I am sure you will have some great stories for us when you get back! LOL...
my trip is 4 months out and I have had a few of those dreams already!! It's always the same problems...No tickets, or we got there and I realize we are on the last day and haven't done anything!!! It's crazy!

I dunno...have you seen that interesting fact sheet about Disney (it might be specific to Disneyland) but apparently tons of cats roam the park in the middle of the night and it helps control the rat problem. They have feeding areas set up to entice the cats away from the parks during the day.

As per the no stroller thing...if they wear her all the time as it is, then I can see how it might be an ok idea. Even so, we attempted to wear Gideon around at Disney and it caused some overheating issues for us. This was in November, when the temps hardly got above 80. While it was a perfectly fine alternative to the stroller if he really wanted to be held, we always brought the stroller with us. If nothing else, we could throw the diaper bag into the seat and push it around while the baby was being carried. Also, Logan even had trouble carrying him around for too long, and he's used to going on ruck marches carrying much more weight!

While it might be easier to not have to push the stroller through a tightly compacted group of people, people can get pretty nasty when they're crowded. Again, if they're used to carrying her around like that all the time, then fine, and I'll admit that using a carrier is often much easier than trying to carry a squirmy baby without one, but all the time?
I hope your parents do force the issue a bit, because that's completely ridiculous.

You MUST tell us everything about your trip when you get back. I hope for your sake that they come to their senses once they get to the parks, but it sounds as if they're going to be a handful the entire time.

Quick question for you. With the Disney Visa Card, and the Character meet and greet, is that for the entire party, or just the card holder? My mother is thinking of getting the card, but is wondering about this.

Hope everyone is having a good day. I'm sitting outside reading!! I love summer!!!!:cloud9:

Wish me luck! I'm heading to Andrew's school tomorrow to meet with the principal for approval for our trip. Our district only allows 5 days for vacation a year. he would be missing 6 (Friday to drive and Monday through Friday the next week while at Disney) so I have to get it approved. If all else fails, Jason said to put in that he will be on vacation that M-F and we'll call while on the road that Friday we leave and say he will be out sick so it will be coded as a sick day. Either way we're going!

I'm calling tomorrow to book!

Our official plans...
Leave Thursday, November 10th at 5pm when DH gets home from work.
Get in about 4-5 hours drive time and stop overnight.
Get up Friday, Nov. 11 and finish the drive arriving at CBR sometime in the evening.
Enjoy a week at Disney then drive home Saturday, November 19th.

Any of those dates sound familiar Shawna!!!! ;)

I have to get planning, research what to see at Christmas, decide if we want to do the MVMCP or not, etc. I'm so excited!!!

I think they should still take the stroller. I'm all for being a babywearing mama but not 24/7 in heat like that. We went in Oct when Andrew was 6 months. I brought my piggysack with me but he ended up in the stroller most of the time unless we were getting on something that required leaving the stroller behind while we waited in line. Then it was convenient but we were glad to have both options. For your sake I hope they reconsider.
