Allergies is one of the main reasons we are switching to hardwood. Jason has terrible allergies so I'm hoping this helps. We've waited 8 yrs to rip up that yucky carpet and it felt really good doing it! Right now we are doing the living room/foyer/hallway. We'll get to the three bedrooms one at a time as budget and time allows. I'm just looking to have easier clean up- if something spills on hardwood it's much easier to clean up than carpet!




I just have to say how much I miss chatting with all of you! I've got to get out of my missing Disney funk and be on here more. Maybe I'll start planning an imaginary trip to pass the time.

Allergies and asthma were the reason my parents got rid of the carpets in the house (I moved just over a year ago into an apartment) and I have to say, it made the world of difference. It was easier to clean and we could see extra dust etc.

I was tempted in the house we had when the boys were really little, to just tear out the old carpet they had and put thick rugs down on the concrete!! I don't know who invented carpet, but I do NOT want to shake his hand!!!

Kim...yes, make up a trip!!! for some bizarre reason it helps!

I've been reading about this for quite some time now and I must say, I don't really like it. First off, the whole privacy thing freaks me out. I don't mind planning my ADR's 6 months ahead of time, but I don't want to choose the attractions, shows, etc I want to ride ahead of time. I certainly don't want to choose exactly what I want to eat that far ahead either!

It seems to take some of the fun out of it.... dining is one thing... but planning every minutes of everyday.... might as well go to work...

But, very true! While I like to do quite a bit of planning for our vacations, I still like that element of being able to change things up when I want. Having to pick that far in advance what rides I want to ride would suck the fun right out of the trip.

I remember hearing about the changes, but part of me didn't want to believe them.

As mentioned, I don't mind booking reservations ahead, but booking rides etc is another topic. There's got to be some sort of spontaneity in the trip (well, for me at least !). It also takes out the fun too

Very true! Right now I'm helping a friend plan her trip for this December- it's her first time going around Christmas and she's so excited. It's been tough to help her though because she doesn't do Disney trips the way we do- she stays offsite and splits her days with Sea World and Universal. When we go we are strictly Disney people!

I'm tentatively planning our next trip for October 2013. Schools are closed for couple days every October for state teacher conventions so that would work for us with both kids being in school. Who knows? My last imaginary trip planned for Dec. 2011 turned out just fine! As Walt said...If you can dream it, you can do it! I just know he was talking about imaginary trips turning out to be real when he said that

WOW! I don't think I like it. I like being flexible while I'm on vacation. I don't mind planning a dinner reservation and I might even be interested in making reservations for meeting certain characters without having to wait but it sounds like lots of work. It also sounds like it will make things more difficult for people that don't plan ahead in detail to experience everything.

Definitely a BAD idea!!! I do not like this one bit...we love Disney because it's safe #1, and the kids can roam around more, have time as they are growing up to be able to experience "go do this and meet me here at this time"...things you can't do everywhere else! If everything is super tailored, where is the fun, flexibility and spontaneity in that? And what about those who dont want to do the pre-planning, we will be pushed out of most things due to the others who have pre-planned...
Hopefully this won't pass with the big wigs! What could we do to stall this? I guess a poll here on the boards...we have that much influence dont we?!

I agree with you guys, that is too much. And imagine the people that aren't like us and don't plan their trips months in advance, they would be totally lost and out of the loop when they go to plan their last minute trip. I don't like this idea one bit.

At one point I heard that WDW resort guests were going to be able to secure fastpasses before leaving their hotel room in the morning. I liked that idea, I am all for people staying on-site getting more perks. But this whole thing of planning every single aspect of your vacation before even leaving home is no good. Can you imagine your child (esp those of you with younger kids) spotting Mickey Mouse and wanting to get in line and you having to say to him/her -- oh no honey, we aren't seeing Mickey until Tuesday at 1:15pm, right now we have an appointment at the Jungle Cruise.





I agree Kim -- Make up a trip!! This trip I am taking in 8 DAYS was totally made up!!!!!

Another thing I've read about the NextGen/xPass stuff is the further out you book, the most FastPasses, etc you get. For example, let's say you book 3 months out. You'd get to pick 4 FastPasses per day. If you booked 6 months out, you'd get to pick 6 FastPasses per day. Does that make sense? If you waited until a month before, you'd get like 2 to pick per day or something like that. It doesn't mean you wouldn't be able to get any in person, but you'd have an advantage in getting the "best times" for the attractions the further out you book. So weird!!!

I'm not really up to speed on the NexGen stuff. I'm an over-planner so some aspects don't bother me so much. I'd like to be able to get FP way in advance, though, or even just prior to leaving the hotel in the a.m.

We don't really do characters. My boys don't much care about them, except during character dinners.

Whatever they do, they test first. I imagine they won't get very far with it if enough people don't like it. I'm not sure how I would feel about it. We tend to mix our days with "planned" mornings and "relaxed" afternoons and evenings. My mornings to some degree are planned to a tee. I'm sure touringplans.com, TGM, and other planning websites have spawned this new idea on the part of Disney. They're realizing that some people really do plan things out very specifically, and want to take advantage of it to make things more predictable for them.

I imagine it will be easiest for meals (which are already like that anyways) shows and characters because they can initiate fast pass type lines for them. The rides seem to be the biggest hurdle, because the thought of planning every single one is a bit far fetched to me. It could be feasible, however, if they only allow scheduling for certain rides - basically the ones that already have fast passes - and have a graduated scale for it. I doubt it will ever get to the point where you can't just show up on a whim, because you won't be able to ride anything interesting.

I could see it being very beneficial for the people who sleep in on vacation, because they could plan their afternoons to the same degree as the rope droppers plan their mornings.

I guess we'll just wait and see. The rumors always tend to be much more extreme than how things actually go down.

I just noticed your ticker says you're going to England for 5 WEEKS!! WOW, what is the occasion? We just went to England and Paris in March and just loved it!

Sucks to have pinkeye - I hate eye infections. I get them occasionally with contacts, and I just hate wearing my glasses and having people wonder why...

We're keeping busy here -
all that end of school year stuff, recitals, etc. My parents are having their 50th wedding anniversary next sunday, we're going to dinner with a few others. Doing a garage sale next weekend too.

Oh, and I'm ripping out the carpet of my family room today and tomorrow since the new stuff is coming Monday!!! I'm so excited about it - it's 14 years old and we've changed the whole color scheme since then. So it's all earth tones and BLUE carpet!!! It's gotta go!

LOL! My parents put in blue carpet about 14 years ago (maybe a little longer?). For them it was just in one room, and the rest of the house had the rust colored carpet put in by the previous owners several years before that....

I'll be in England from mid-July to mid-August to see my sister and her family, as well as friends and also to go to The Olympic Torch Relays. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any tickets to the games, but I'll be watching them from the parks etc! I'm doing a Sound of Music Sing-A-Long, a night ride on The London Eye, going to the Harry Potter set tour, amongst many other things. I've been following your trip report and loving it!


Disney Mommy 3 - Isn't it? The kids are right at that age too where they'll rub their eyes anyway, despite being told not too, simply because they don't understand. Congrats on 5000 posts!
