We are supposed to get 4-8 inches of snow Sat into Sun. My flight is 7am Sun morning out of Philly. We are staying at an airport hotel Sat night so we don't have to drive in the snow early Sun morning. Will my flight be cancelled or delayed? How much snow is too much to take off in? We are flying SWA. Any info is greatly appreciated for this newbie on flying. TIA

We have the same problem out of Hartford Sunday morning. I called to see if we could fly out on Sat instead but fares are too high now that it is so close. First flight out of the day should run ok in 3-4 inches of snow. We are staying closer to airport too to avoid long slow drive to airport. I just hope we don't get more than anticipated. Looks like later Sunday we will be getting more but hopefully we'll be in the FL sun by then!!! See you there!! :cool1:

I usually fly out of AVP and was told by officials there that it takes 8 inches or more to close that airport. I suspect PHL can handle more.

Thank you soooo much Bill!!!
That is just what I wanted to hear!!

See you in WDW disneymania!! Remember your lime green so I can say HI!!

If your flight from PHL goes out on time Sunday.....

You can partially thank my uncle......

He is a supervisor on the dedicated snow removal crew for the airport. (works for city of Phila) They will probably go in to work on Saturday morning and work straight through until the snow stops....

Not sure about Philly but recently weather reports here in MD said that the storm was going to move through faster than expected so maybe 5-6" which isn't terrible.

I think your chances are pretty good. For an early morning flight the plane will probably be there, not coming in from somewhere else. We were on an SWA flight a couple of years ago, last flight out at night, and the plane literally had 18 passengers. I was so worried they would cancel the flight, but we went. They had to get the plane to Orlando for the morning flight out.

The joys of flying from the Northeast in winter, eh?

We will be taking the 7:00 AM flight out of Philly on Saturday. I think we're going to beat the storm by a few hours. The Philly news stations are still saying the amount of snow coming is very hard to predict. Our local news in Easton is saying the snow will start in the afternoon and accumulate 1-2 inches by late evening. I guess it could still snow overnight into Sunday. The way these things usually work, we won't get any and you'll be heading to sunny Florida with no problems! See you there!

Hey, MiJo, you're weather forecast is looking better all the time (for Orlando that is). Have a great time and tell Bob J. I'll be seeing him next trip down.

Darn. They are saying Hartford is now 8 - 12 inches. We may try to get out on Sat afternoon & stay offsite for a night. Hard to know what to do1!!!

Good luck to you!
I have sympathy because we've had similar situations flying from Chicago, So far so good, although on our last cruise we would have had problems if we didn't fly out the night before. I'll send good wishes and pixie dust your way.

This morning (Friday at 5:00 AM) they have now changed the snow forecast for S. Central Pa. (including Balto and Philly) to "upwards of 14"--depending on how fast the storm moves. The local weather guy was wringing his hands and admitting that "last nights forecast was all wrong". Now set to begin around 10:00 AM on Saturday and last until early Sunday AM

Of course, an hour from now, the forecast could change yet again.

Would be nice if you could rely on the forecast you just heard, but unfortunately that isn't the case. The forecast that we will hear on Saturday morning will likely be the only one that is reasonably reliable.
So lets hope for the best and that whatever we get will be in and out in a hurry--and that the "wind" won't add to the snow removal problems. Windy conditions are often worse than the snow itself.

Was supposed to leave early Sun morning from ISP to MCO changed to Sat at 11:45am..also the car we had reserved with National changed to Sat pick up..total for these changes $40. for Southwest (which I used a credit I had) and $10. more for National using the priceless code and the coupon from the ent. book..LEAVING BEFORE THE SNOW PRICELESS...Marianne :cheer2: :space:

Not to rain ( or snow) on your parade, but the issue is the aircraft and what each airline does, some prefer to keep the planes out of the middle of a large snowstorm. If it is snowing hard saturday night the inbound flight may be cancelled. Bottom line is you have no control, relax we have been snowed out a few times. Enjoy your trip

I have to say I feel for all of you...watching the weather here and told my DH that it would really stink if you had plans to get to WDW over this weekend from here...I told him if it were us, I would change our flights and leave earlier or even just get in the car and drive! He was lol! Good luck to you all and hope you are enjoying the sunshine and the fun soon!!

Go to the airport and try to stand by for an earlier flight. Often the airlines will let you do it free before a snowstorm.
