Snow Days

On days you get to stay home because of weather, what do you end up doing at home all day?

This happened to me on Thursday. I did some work at home on my laptop whilst watching reality TV!!

Before I had kids I just slept. Now I net surf while trying to keep the kids from going stir crazy, sometimes take them out to lunch or sledding. Last week I promised to clean the house but didn't get much done.

Another question about snow days.

Does your school system have extra days built in the schedule to allow for the Snow Days or do the students have to make them up at the end of the school year? If they are built in, does that mean they will get out of school early if not used by the end of the year?

Our system "banks" time by going extra minutes each day. I think we can cover about 3 days using the banked time. After that, the calendar is extended to allow for make-up days. If we miss a large number of days, then Spring Break, holidays (MLK, Presidents Day, etc.) and teacher only days are used to make up missed student days.

Our days are added on at the end. I hate it! We currently have a superintendent who loves snow days. Last week, he cancelled school for Wednesday on Tuesday afternoon before one snowflake had even fallen! (And as a side note, there wasn't anywhere's near as much snow as was predicted and the kids definitely could have gone--like almost every other community in the area) As of now, we aren't getting out until June 23.

For the OP, if we don't go sledding, we usually have a jammy day on snow days!
