snip-its birthday party for girls????

Oh I should mention that the thing that got this idea started was the "glamour girl" pary set at Oriental trading. You might want to check the set out for $100 you can get everything for a party of 8. I just wanted to tweak ours a little.

If it were me, I'd try to talk DD into doing your own party at home. Have lots of hair accessories, makeup, nail polish, files, etc. and let them do each other all up. Get some of your own cool sunglasses and feather boas adn let them put on a runway show at home. Set up the video camera and take lots of pictures. Be sure to send a picture of each girl home. Maybe as an activity, decorate a picture frame, then later you can give them a picture to put in it from the party.

When my children (12 & 9) started to want out of the house birthday parties one things we did to save money was to institute a "party or gift rule". My kids know that can have a party OR gift from mommy and daddy.
They didn't like it at first. Of course they never like not getting stuff, but we held firm and they understand that the big party IS our gift to them. So far they have always chosen the party (lots of gifts rather than just one big one).

Has anyone done this before?? If they do a great job keep the girls happy and entertained then its worth it I suppose. I'd hate to spend that much and find out its a big bust. Last year she opted for dinner and a movie with mom and dad and 100.00 cash  :cool1: that was the best!!!!

My DD5 went to a snip-its party a couple months ago in the Charlotte area. It was very cute, they did a good job on their hair and the kids had a great time. The only complaint I would have is they only had one person working the party and she was doing the hair styles, so all the other kids were left on their own with one coloring sheet and some markers . That lasted about 5 minutes, lol!!! It took ALOT longer than that to do 8 girls hair styles. I would recm'd that if you have the party there that they have more than one person working the party.

She just decided yesterday that she would do the glamour party at home.(yea!!!). We are going to use some of your great suggestions. I found feather boas and tiaras online for about $1.50 apiece. We are going to do a "glamour" photo frame craft from oriental trading. I've enlisted my sister and neighbor to help with hairdos and nail polishing and we will do our own runway show and put the pictures in our frame. I will look for makeup bags and give each girl some lip gloss, nail polish, hair brush, hair ties, tiara, and boa. We are going to do it mid afternoon and serve just cake and ice cream. With the money I'll be saving my dd is going to get a bedroom makeover (thats how we convinced her to not do the snip its party). I was actually concerned about what the previous poster mentioned too about only one person working on ten little girls hairdos. Way too much down time. At least at home I can keep them busy with karoeke and games. As much as I didn't want to plan another party I'm so glad we are going this route I think it will be fun. Well as much fun as a party with ten 7 and 8 year olds can be. lol :rotfl2:

Thanks again for everyones imput I LOVE this board.

I think your DD's decision is great!!! The party at home sounds like so much more fun even though it's a little more work. Have a great time planning! :flower:

Suzanne check Oriental trading for the make up bags and accessories. I'm going to get the crystal tattoos for some extra glitter !

We took my neice and daughter (both 10) for my neices birthday last week to Libby Lu`s. They got to make body lotion, body gel and bath lotion, they also give them a libby lu cloth sack to take the stuff home. It was 30 a child to do everything they have to offer...............did their hair updo (my DD got hers sprayed pink) and did their nails. They had a ball! I dont know if I`d spend all that money for other peoples children, it is pricey!
We took them to friendlys and they sang to my neice , her favorite part of it all! LOL
Then ended up at Glamour shots, b/c they looked so cute! The portraits are priceless, although they costed an arm and a leg..........but hey they are only 10 once, right?

ours has more than one stylist working on the girls. while some girls are getting updos the others will be doing a craft- like a door hanger..
I found some cheep bead necklaces and rings to go with their feather boas and tiaras. I cant wait to see these little glamour girls! dd is beyond excited.

Glitter tatoos??? Awesome idea. I brought the christmas tatoos to dd's (all 3) Christmas parties at school and the kids loved them. The girls will love to have the jeweled ones for the party.
I wish we had a libby lu here locally so I could just take my dd herself it sounds sooo cute. I don't think snip its does that for individuals you need a min. of 6. I can't believe how excited I'm getting planning this party after not wanting to do it at first. I think I'm a planning junkie!! :rotfl: Thats how I found this board-planning our Disney Cruise last May. We are rebooked for 8-06 but are waiting for the rest of 2007 dates to be released to switch dates. I'm having vacation planning withdrawal so bring on the glamour birthday party :cool1:

DD is turning 8 at the end of the month and she is insisting on having her party at Build-a-bear! I already booked it and it is costing me $22 per kid.(I limited it to 10 kids) It includes a bear and an outfit. Then DD wants to have cake/pizza at the mall. The food court is right next to the Build-a-bear store so it is convienent, but this party is going to cost me!! DD has never had a party at home, I tried this year even with all kinds of bribes, LOL!! She even turned down my offer to take her to AG in NYC and buy her any doll and outfit!!! She still insisted on this Build-a-bear party!

You all have such great ideas for your at home parties!!!
I use to own a children's birthday party facility and I couldn't believe what some parents will pay for a kids party. My most expensive one was for a 5yo who had a luau theme, and had a animal person come in with all kinds of animals for the kids to pet, and the total party was about $650!!! I really think some of these places are outrageously priced, but some people have no problem paying $30 per kid! When I had my place, I had parties for all budgets. Ones that started at $10 per kid-$25 per kid. All parties included pizza, cake, and paper goods. We did crafts, dancing, games, etc....
I used oriental trading company for alot of stuff and they are great and so are their products! I really like the ideas of the snip its and libby lu parties. I have never heard of them and there are none in my area.

I did a build a bear party for DD 4th, but instead of buying the clothes there I went to Michaels craft store and bought the outfits. DD 's birthday is 5 days before Christmas so they wouldn't book a "party for me. We went in and each kid did a $10.00 bears, then we went to a pizza parlor and had pizza . I had a goody bag for each child with a bear mask that I printed off my computer ,a sweater for their bear, a bag of teddy grhams and a twisty straw for their drink. We topped it off with a teddy bear cake.

Where online did you find the inexpensive boas?

My DD9 starts planning her May birthday right after xmas. She apparently has inherited my planning gene. ;) I'm going to head out to Target later and try to snag a few beauty bargains. Sleep overs are her and her friends favorite. She was at a home Spa party Friday night and it was a hit. A few weeks ago she went to an "Amazing Race" sleep-over- also a huge hit. My DD would say that the majority of home parties are more fun than "packaged parties".

I bought my boas on disneyshopping. they had the pink lizzie mcguire ones with the mask for 1.99 each. I couldnt find any other ones that were cheeper than this so I went ahead and bought them. They seem to be pretty good quality and the feathers wont fall off the 1st time the girls put them on.. now what to do with 12 lizzy masks... :rotfl:

I'm in party planning mode, too, for my 10 year old DD. I've got a "who to invite" thread going on the community board. We've never done an at-home party for her before. I'm not too keen on doing it this year, but we have no Build-a-Bear, Libby Lu, etc. There is a privately owned place that does the Libby Lu rock and roll lip synch type party, but they charge $27.50 per kid w/a 6 kid minimum and all they get to take home is a blow-up guitar. They do provide pizza and drinks. I just can't justify that price.

We're doing our own version at home w/our karaoke machine. I've got make your own lipgloss kits as craft. I'm asking the kids to bring their own dress up stuff if they have it (I've got a few things on hand for those who forget.) I bought blow up guitars at Target after Halloween for 90 percent off. Depending on how many girls we end up having, they may get to keep them as a party favor...I only found 7. I've got colored and glitter hairspray and makeup for them to do each other. Then they can work out their routines and perform. I'm going to video the performance...I may burn it onto DVD to mail w/the thank you notes. Gotta think about that. We'll watch the video while they eat cake. I also have glitter wrist tatoos, bamboo flutes, and high heel shoe pencil sharpeners to put in purse goodie bags from Oriental Trading. I'm not sure if I'm up for a slumber party. Jury is still out on that one.

To the poster w/the salon: A salon in our area started doing Princess for a Day parties. They are all the rage here w/the 4-8 age group. My younger dd had her party there in November. We live in a lower-income, sort of rural area. Prices would probably be higher in a big city. This place charges $125 for up to 8 kids. Then it was only $10 extra per girl. You paid a $20 deposit and the balance was due at the party. First, they have lots of princess dresses for the girls to choose as they arrive. Then they rotate through stations....foot soak, manicure/pedicure, hair in an up-do, and create a foam picture frame. Afterwards, they gather in a party room that is decorated all in pink w/castles and fairies painted on the wall. Everyone gets to wear a crown and wand. They take a group digital photo and print it during the cake/gift opening. The girls get to take that home in their frame as a party favor. The birthday girl keeps her crown and also gets a "I had a Princess Party" t shirt. They provided the paper products and juice boxes. I provided cake and any other refreshments I wanted. Well worth it not to have to deal w/it at my house.

Partidge4ever, I was wondering what part of Alabama you were in, If you don't mind my asking. I am in Alabama also and I think we are gonna try something like this for my dd in February for her bday.

I love everybody's ideas, keep 'em coming.
