I haven't had mine this year, but several in the past (two planning in the works! :cheer2: ) I tried to give the girls lots of freedom so that they felt like they were "big girls" but truth be told I had a pretty well mapped out schedule for the night so things didn't get out of hand. If that happens it makes it *no fun* for the birthday girl or the ones who are more shy and reserved. I take lots of pictures and if you have a lot of girls they could be doing different things in different "centers". I let mine eat till they popped and just left every yummy food that is usually forbidden out in baskets in the kitchen. They could have water bottles in the living room but if they sat in the kitchen they could have COKE!

I may be alone on this one but the best piece of advice I could give anybody hosting a sleepover is DON'T let them stay up all night unless you plan on staying up the whole night with them! I don't feel like little girls 8-12 are old enough to be unsupervised in large groups like that. There are usually one or two girls who are more *advanced* than the other girls. Maybe she has seen movies or watched stuff on tv or has an older sister or brother....whatever  My girls know that if the talk gets crude they are to excuse themselves to the bathroom, then find me and I will get things moving in a new direction without letting on that I know anything. We have covered all the basics and my girls know most things about sex and their bodies BUT when girls get together (heck, grown women even :rotfl2: ) things can get out of hand and vulgar before you know it.

I don't go to bed until everyone is asleep. We do "sleep-overs" and not "all-nighters" (yet). I know there are mom's who do different and my girls have spent the night at those parties and come home the next day in tears over the things that were talked about, shown, etc. We have since been even more restrictive in who they sleepover with and we have very open and honest discussions about what is talked about.

Have fun! party:

She just decided yesterday that she would do the glamour party at home.(yea!!!). We are going to use some of your great suggestions. I found feather boas and tiaras online for about $1.50 apiece. We are going to do a "glamour" photo frame craft from oriental trading. I've enlisted my sister and neighbor to help with hairdos and nail polishing and we will do our own runway show and put the pictures in our frame. I will look for makeup bags and give each girl some lip gloss, nail polish, hair brush, hair ties, tiara, and boa. We are going to do it mid afternoon and serve just cake and ice cream. With the money I'll be saving my dd is going to get a bedroom makeover (thats how we convinced her to not do the snip its party). I was actually concerned about what the previous poster mentioned too about only one person working on ten little girls hairdos. Way too much down time. At least at home I can keep them busy with karoeke and games. As much as I didn't want to plan another party I'm so glad we are going this route I think it will be fun. Well as much fun as a party with ten 7 and 8 year olds can be. lol :rotfl2:

If you haven't done so already, check out this link http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/html/spa_party.html
also look at the "makeover parties". So many clever people out there!

Rent a couple of age appropriate movies for the "down time" before going to sleep. They will be all wound up after all excitement!!

Luckey-good luck with the sleep ove tonight. I'm sure it will be a riot and your dd will love it.

Mem-thank you sooo much for that awesome website. I saw lots of great ideas for my dd's party(2/11).

Have a great weekend everyone :cool1:

Just wanted to let everyone know that Target $1.00 spot had feather boas and hair combs today.

Party went great the older girls did a fantastic job with the little girls hair!
There just winding down now watching the sleepover dvd.

Hope all your parties turn out well !

so glad to hear all went well with the slumber party.

we are all set for snip its on the 11th. all rsvp'd so I have 12 girls for the glamour part and 10 for the lunch after. the only damper was olive garden- who refused to take reservations for lunch. :confused3 so I called macaroni grill that gladly took them. looks like the lunch for the girls will be a tad cheeper at $4.50 each and includes the ice cream ( OG did not) and their drink. she can't wait. My friend who is a photographer is all ready to take shots of the girls on " the run way" I definitely will post about the party when its over..

Today is the Day!

Snip Its called to confirm yesterday. They will have 2-3 girls working on the little glamour girls. we are all set for lunch after. dh is going to drop by the cake and balloons at the Macaroni Grill. Its going to be a beautiful day here with highs in the mid 70's- couldnt ask for a more perfect day! :sunny:

I know this is too late for the OP, but an internet friend from another site recently posted that she had a surprise "kidnapping" party for her daugher (8, I think). Here's what she did:

I wake her up early (6am) and take her in her PJ's. We go around and wake up and pick up several friends. Parents are notified in advance to have them in cute pj's and that we will be knocking on their door early. Then we go in and wake up each kid and tell them we are kidnapping them for a birthday party.

Then take them to Denny's or some breakfast place - in their pj's..slipper...the whole nine yards. Bring them back to my house to play (parents pack a change of clothes - not telling their kids) and then end with pizza lunch and take kids home!

She found fuzzy slippers on sale somewhere, and made fancy eye masks for each girl.

I don't have kids and I thought it was a cute idea!

My dd is turning 8 next month. She has her heart set on a b-day party at snip-its. I have the brochure(no prices). Party includes an updo of choice, makeover (each girl brings their makeup home as goodie bag, cake and juice boxes, and girls dress up with feather boas and such for a runway walk. Well I call tonight and find out it is a 30 booking fee PLUS 25 for each girl. She wants 10 girls sooooo 280. plus tax ughhh. Has anyone done this before?? If they do a great job keep the girls happy and entertained then its worth it I suppose. I'd hate to spend that much and find out its a big bust. Last year she opted for dinner and a movie with mom and dad and 100.00 cash  :cool1: that was the best!!!!

Never heard of Snip-its. Sounds wonderful. My DS will be a teenager in April and she is having a pedicure party.

I forgot to add that Avon also does a "Lips and Tips" party, and if you get a decent rep, they won't expect the girls to buy anything (unless they want to).

We did this for our Youth Group, and the rep was a friend of a leader, so she made it into a Bible Study, too, with verses about inner beauty, etc.

It was a HUGE Hit! :cloud9: :cheer2: :cheer2:

the girls and moms had a great time. It was so worth every penny. They had two girls work on the girls. They each got to pick a "style" for their hair. They all had their nails painted, makeup applied and glitter hairspray. Each girl made a bracelet and necklace. They each wrote their likes and they introduced each girl and read what each one wrote. It went very smoothly and no problems can up at all. I didnt think until I got there about tipping. (I had assumed it was included.) It was not ,so each girl received $25.00. we did not eat there as I kinda have a thing about hair and food so we took them over to the macaroni grill- that was alot of fun too. The girls had their own table and looked so cute in their crowns and boas that we had bought for the occasion. The goody bag that they gave out had a bracelet, hair braid, lollipop, tattoo and lip gloss. It was a perfect day for a perfect little girl! I so recommend it! here are the glamour girls in action
