Sneaker Question

The only tennis shoes I wear are K-Swiss, I've tried tons of others, but K-Swiss are just simply the most comfortable for me. My sister swears by Reebok with the DMX in them. No matter what ones you choose, break them in before you go!!! I bought a brand new pair last time I went to Disney and didn't put them on until the day we went....what a mistake!!!! Wear them at least a week ahead of time for the most comfortable park warking.

I agree with ktglads! You need to walk around in both and figure out which will be best. It does not sound like you want to buy a new shoe, but use the ones that you have. Walk around your city, neighborhood, or just stay in place on a treadmill. ;) If all else fails, you can also carry around insoles and switch it up as your feet get tired at WDW.

That said, as an Oregonian, I would go with Nike. They are a cool company locally and we enjoy going to niketown (and their buisness campus is supposed to be AMAZING). Of course, that says nothing about how they fit. :p We are buying nike shoes for our trip.

Here's another vote for Skechers (SP?)!!!

I too do not like New Balance - just not comfortable for me personally!! Nike doesn't work for me, either.

I used to wear Adidas walking shoes, but once I tried SK's, I never went back.

Now, I know this is a dumb move, but last summer I wore my new SK's to a Six Flags park and walked all day - no blisters and no discomfort!! I really couldn't believe it!

I now have 2 pairs for Disney....

Good luck!!

You can also try cool max double layer socks. The sweat from your foot is transfered to the top layer of the sock keeping moisture away from your feet. Another recommendation is Thorlo brand socks. They are recommended by the Diabetic Association (I am not sure of the exact name of the association:confused: ) to help prevent blisters. I was never a huge fan of thorlos for the summer time, as my feet always felt warm, but I was certainly in the minority. Those were by far the "sock of choice" for competitive runners, and regular ole folk alike!

Ultimately, if a shoe fits you correctly, blisters should never be a huge problem. Go to a reputable shoe store in your area (I don't always recommend the mall stores-even though I worked at one!) and spend LOTS OF TIME finding a shoe with a good fit. and get your feet measured!

Edited to say: I am not the sports doctor you requested the info from, but I thought you could use this info just the same! Give em a try!

I'm not a doctor, I just play one on TV :) I am just an Exercise Specialist. Your suggestion was really important, and most people don't even know they make these socks. They are what I wear at WDW. The nice part is they wash out and dry quickly, so you don't need to own tons of pairs of them (they are expensive :(). I usually take 4 pair, which is overkill- as you could manage with three. Great contribution :)

Blessings :)

Thanks! Any advice is appreciated! It's an unusual spot for blisters, deep under the skin of my heel. You can see it, but not reach it. I don't have any problems under normal walking conditions, only in WDW! Maybe I just don't have as much padding on the heel of my foot as I should and that is the problem. I will try the suggestions of the Spenco inserts as well as a good pair of socks. I'm not crazy about thick socks though!

My DH had knee replacement surgery last year at the ripe old age of 48 and his physical therapist said the ortho doctors were recommending New Balance. We both got a pair and love them. Just got back from the World a week ago and the shoes were great, as was the trip :teeth:

Has anybody used Rockport walking shoes lately? I used them many years ago and they were great. I need to get a new pair of shoes pretty quickly and am considering all the recommendations here!

Try to rotate shoes too during a vacation. I've heard this can help with sore feet. My grandfather's podiatrist recommended it as well.

Someone at wdwtalk suggested Rykas and I decided to give them a shot and managed to find ONE style. I've tried them an d like them better than any sneakers I've had in ages! They were designed for women's feet instead of cut down from men's (or so I heard), and the heel is slightly narrower and it really helps! I've been using them on the treadmill to make sure before my trip, and they were good even without socks (but I certainly won't try that at WDW).

I've heard this too, that's why I bring two pairs of running sneakers with me and my teva's. Actually between my daughter and I, we bring a suitcase just for shoes!!:teeth:

...In hopes of buying 2 new pairs of sneakers at great prices, but I didn't find anything that felt good on my feet! None had the arch support I was looking for or heel cushioning. I ended up buying 2 pairs of Saucony running shoes which I find are the best for me. I will still buy the inserts just incase I need more heel cushioning.
I walk 1 hour(atleast) every day and the last 3 months or so I have developed this terrible pain in my heel and arch. It goes away during the day but it comes back in the morning or if I've been sitting too long. I guess its old age!
