Snake Signs at Disney??

Yes please stay from moccasins. They are very agressive snakes. Unlike rattlers who will let you know you are to close they will put up a fight. Evil snakes. But as for as gaters, they taste like chicken.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

OP - I'm very sorry to hear about son and your ruined vacation. I hope it doesn't prevent you from coming back to Disney so you can have a hospital-free vacation!

Unfortunately, snakes are a fact of life in FL, but I don't see how a sign would have prevented your tragedy. Being aware or not...you could still step too close to a bush a snake is hiding in.

yikes... booked cbr and now I am afraid of alligators.

Is it safe to be near the lake? Don't they come out to sit in the sun near shore?
eek

Yes it's fine to be near the lake. Snakes are actually more dangerous to humans than alligators. It's much easier to spot an sunning alligator! If you see one, just calmly walk away. I've lived in FL for 24 years, and many of those in a lakefront home. I've never had a bad encounter with an alligator.

That is a Lie

I live right next door in New HAmpshire and I happen to remember last summer very vividly!!! It happened on a Thursday and lasted all day:rotfl2:

just remember that summer last about 20 minutes in Maine.:lmao:

Wow, I didn't think is was that long!!!
It's usually winter, 15 minutes of spring, 10 minutes of summer, 5 minutes of fall, then right back into winter! ;)

Hey Webstah
I live next door in New Hampshire, you forgot Pot hole season, road construction season, and black fly season. Are you really from Maine or where you born "from away" lol

Dave Goofydad Dionne

Actually from "away" (not far, that state to the south of VT [we don't acknowledge the eastern half])
but I've lived in Maine for 22 years, and work in NH.

where do you work we are probably not far apart maybe we can have a Disney meet of our own? I am born and raised in NH my dad was born in Me. way back in 1917, my wife went to school at UNE and public school in Freeport when it was a just a 2 lane road. My youngest was born at Maine Med, Portland.

Ok, my DD(8 at the time) said she saw a snake at POR 2 years ago and I only pretended to believe her :rolleyes1
OOOPs.
Now that we are staying there again I'll be more watchful. Yeesh.

And the closer you get to Canada, the signs say "Watch out for Moosehead beer"

:lmao: Too funny since we actually do have a beer called 'Moosehead' It is so popular in the Maritimes that when they had a university alumni party in Toronto, they actually flew it in from NS!!! :goodvibes

Snakes scare the crap out of me!!! Saw one in the garden today, and ran into the house! I was surprised b/c they usually don't come out this early! :confused3

Most of the snakes in FL are not venomous. There are about 50 species of snakes in FL and only 6 of them are venomous.

Last April we were staying at ASM and the kids wanted to play on the playground. While they were playing I noticed a little rabbit by the bushes. I walked over to take a picture and then noticed, not far from it, a black snake all curled up and watching the rabbit too. Needless to say we left the playground and didn't go back. My husband notified a CM. I did a little research and from what I could tell it was a southern black racer, which is not poisonous. So, yes, there are snakes. . . just stay away from the bushes!

I'm from Canada where the only poisonous thing we have is ivy. I agree that a snake warning sign probably wouldn't prevent encounters with snakes, some literature in our packages might make us a little more wary.

Where I live we don't have earthquakes, mudslides, large tornadoes or poisonous creatures...we just have snow. Lots and lots of snow. However, if you add up the number of people who are killed or maimed from snow and cold, the idea of natural disaster and poisonous creatures is probably not that bad :)

Quite frankly I would be more worried about black widow spiders than poisonous snakes. Now they are alot harder to see and really pack a punch. However I wouldn't lose any sleep over either of them, just walk away and they won't chase you down!

About the only thing posting a snake sign at WDW will do is make Disney liable for any injury on WDW caused by a snake. There's no way in the world that they can get rid of all the snakes, or keep all the guests away from them. People need to use common sense, and do a bit of research before traveling. Of course even then, you can't protect everyone from everything. Thank goodness the OP's son was OK - how scary for them!

OK, Goofydad and Webstah, you left out one of the biggies- MUD SEASON!! ANd BOY, are we having it this year- early and lots! I had the windows open on the way home from work today.. it was almost 40, and it felt great. Actually, this is the warmest winter I can remember. Up here near Bangor, we haven't had any snow since... late January? I am doing the happy dance, though- we haven't gone through two tanks of oil since mid-November, instead of one a month from Nov. until March :dance3::yay:

Now, the snake thing... Wish I hadn't read this. I have a terrible phobia about snakes :scared1: and had managed to convince myself that they don't like to crawl on concrete or cement and that Disney has special coarse-textured grass that snakes won't cross. PLEASE don't burst my bubble! Let me live with my denial :upsidedow !

Stay out of all flower beds and away from mulch. Also keep away from ornamental grasses. These are favorite spots for snakes. My friend's daughter was bitten by a pygmy rattlesnake at CBR when she stepped into a flower bed to look at a flower. She was in the hospital for a couple of days.
