Snake in Resort Room?

Why did I open this thread!?!?

I'm a Florida girl (born in Orlando actually) and hate snakes!

Going to make sure and request a high floor room for our trip in Nov!

I just read all 29 pages of this thread! WHY! WHY!! WHY!!!
I don't know what I would do if I saw a snake!!!

You would do what the rest of us did, scream and run!

By the way, I read the thread with my feet up.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: LOL :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

The whole time I was reading this, I swear I kept feeling something on my arm. I called my mom and read her a few. She is thinking about skipping WDW this time and just meeting us for the cruise!!:lmao::lmao::lmao: I think I have convinced her otherwise now.

LOL....ME TOO!!!

I hate snakes, hate all of them, will happily 'terminate' any that I see in the road. My DH killed a copperheard coming up the front steps of our house about 9 years ago. There are still marks in the foundation from the buck shot. Of course, we also have bears that come on our porch so that is always fun too!! :sad2:

I would be careful running over snakes with your car. They can actually bite yours tires causing you to have a flat. Also the fangs can get stuck in them and expose anyone that touches them to the venom. :scared1:

Just to get the facts out there -- Quote from University of Florida web site...

Fortunately, the risk of snakebite (venomous or non-venomous) is very small, and the risk of death from venomous snakebite is minimal. In the U.S., only 5-6 deaths each year are due to a venomous snakebite – a tenth of the number of fatalities (~53) caused by hornet, bee, and wasp stings!

In contrast, the total number of deaths resulting directly from traffic accidents in Florida alone (during 2009) totaled 2,563. And an August, 2009 news paper article listed 41 Swine Flu deaths in Florida during the first half of that year. Just trying to lend a bit of perspective in terms of risks.

While being bitten would definitely not be a positive experience, the chance of actually dying because of a close encounter with a venomous snake is extremely remote. Also, 25% of all pit viper bites are 'dry' bites... meaning no venom is injected. While a previous poster's son was unfortunately the victim of a venomous bite while on WDW property... if you take appropriate precautions and do not reach into or wander through areas with cover foliage plantings, the risk of being bitten is truly very minimal.

I have seen at least one snake on Disney property. Dh and I were cruising around the campground one night on a golf cart and saw one in the road in one of the loops. It was pretty big, but I have no idea what kind it was. I can't remember if we saw more that night or not, it was several years ago. :confused3

SOOOooooo I guess I'll be looking for bedbugs AND snakes next week AHHH!!!!! :scared1:

So if the snake was headed for SAB, how is it that they let people swim in there????? Seriously staying in the quiet pool area at BCV now!!!!

I hate to burst your bubble, but DH fished a garter snake out of the BCV quiet pool a couple of years ago. It was just a little one though if that helps?!? :goodvibes

It was actually really funny, we weren't swimming, just walking back from the marketplace with a beer when he heard people screaming. He didn't even put his beer down, just leaned over the side with his other hand, grabbed the snake and relocated it to the bushes. :rotfl:

You know, I actually like snakes! They get rid of so many pests.:thumbsup2

Although...I don't think I'd like to sleep with one in my room. ;)

:scared:

after reading about 10 of these pages. i'm terrified! we're staying at CBR but in december, so hopefully the snakes will all be tucked away trying to keep warm. while reading this my dog put his wet nose on my leg. i jumped out of fear of it being something else. EEK!

Oh wow, I didn't know there were this many snake sightings at WDW!

I saw one about 3 years ago at the BW, we were waiting at the bus stop and a huge black thing started slithering towards the benches. Needless to say everyone took off rather quickly!

Uhhh no they can't. Run over them with impunity.

It hasn't happened to me before at a resort, but I don't think it'd be any fun! Or maybe it would... lol
