Smugglers Run - May 22nd Updates Question

Good afternoon, I have seen the articles about the updates being made to Smugglers Run that are going into effect on May 22nd but I haven't seen anywhere if the ride needs to be closed for them to make those updates. We are going to be there in April 2026 so I was wondering if the ride needs to be closed to put those changes into effect or since its a video type ride they can do it all without closing.

I don't think they've said anything either way. It's possible they provide more info at D23 later this month.

Disney has not announced if it will be closed for refurb prior to May 22 yet.

Hello everyone, resurfacing this question, I haven't seen anything that says Smugglers Run will be closed as they make these updates but has anyone seen otherwise?

They appear to be testing the ride by reducing capacity from now until the update is live which is how they are avoiding bringing the ride down completely. I haven't seen official reports, but this appears to be the case. It also appears to have been causing wait times to increase. We used to see wait times in the 20 minute range as the day went on for low to medium crowd days but not recently. Haven't had a chance to verify with thrill-data or other sites, but it was definitely our experience on our January trip and this week as well as what I was monitoring in planning for each.

Something to keep in mind not only for the wait times, but for the subsequent impact on LLMP availability as it may become a higher priority especially with RnR now down.
