Smoking & stroller wagons banned May 1!

A person sitting to my left is smoking, the person to my right is having a drink in DCA. The person to my left is sucking on a cigarette immediately affecting the quality of MY life right there and then. The person on the right is sucking on a straw immediately affecting the quality of HIS/HER life only. I am against drinking and driving.

Plus they could be smoking pot which smells super nasty. We don't need that at Disney. Since pot is legal I don't see how Disney can pick and chose which products they will allow you to smoke.

I wonder how they will judge “hanging over”? I have a double BOB, which according to manufacturer specs is 30.5 inches wide... so just barely within the limits.
I saw on the facebook group someone was measuring a double Bob and it fit. The handle bar looks like it barely fits or is just at the line though. I know someone else with that stroller and she is a little worried too.

They can because it is private property. Also it is illegal to smoke pot out in public. Still, I'm completely fine and supportive of a complete ban on smoking/Vaping.

As a person who is bringing smallish children to Disney for their first time next year, I welcome these new changes, especially the smoking ban. It’s good to know that Disney is taking this seriously and while I understand the desire to smoke and addiction attached (I smoked for years when younger) the effect on others cannot be denied especially young children.

To the Disney Veterans our there, how prevalent were the large strollers and wagons?

Large strollers have been around for years and years. I saw a lot of LARGE joggers with the large back wheels. The wagon strollers were kind of a newer fad. They actually aren't bigger than the box above, as many have pointed out, but they were technically already banned as Disney has always said no wagons.

With 3 kids, we have used strollers in the parks for the last 8 years. Smaller strollers are easier to maneuver in the crowds, but with an infant a bigger stroller that fully reclines is sometimes a necessity, and for parents with multiple young children a double stroller is also often a necessity. We are glad that we are down to a small light weight stroller, but there were years when that just wasn't an option. I am also glad they are restricting the stroller sizes as some of the strollers were HUGE.

We arrive this Wednesday. I have three young kids and have a double jogging stroller. It measures at 31.5”. I don’t know if they will be that strict or not. I love my stroller because I can fit all three kids in it. Not sure what to do.

If you decide to bring the stroller, be prepared that security CMs might make you return it to your car/hotel room or check it. If they allow you to keep it, great. But be prepared if they won't. In that case, you will be asked to rent a double stroller from Disney.

Has anyone heard whether they have double strollers available to rent yet?

They were supposed to be available by May 1st. Hopefully someone will chime in if they've already seen them at the parks. Will you be needing to take the stroller back to your hotel? You might look into renting a stroller (the company will drop off and pick up at the hotel). Posters here like City Strollers.

Ideally yes I want a stroller for the walk to the hotel too. I’ll look in to that. I just hate to spend more money when I already own a stroller that is only 1/2 and inch too wide

I would also be prepared with not having uniform answers across the board right away. For example, maybe on Wednesday you have no problem with the stroller size even though it just touches the border, but the next day they might tell you because it touches the border you have to take it back.
I feel DLR CMs are known for not always being on the same page as each other when new policies go into effect.

Does yours happen to be a double chariot? I measured mine and the base was 31 or less", it was the handlebars that were 31.5" IIRC. I was thinking about how I could just rig something and take off the handlebars. ha. The chariot is just far more convenient than a double with a divider when you have multiple kids.

Mine barely has a divider between the seats so I can actually fit all three kids in it which is why I love it. It measures 31.5 at the outside of the tires. So based on the box on the ground I’m thinking the outer edge of the tires will land on the blue lines. So close!!

If you decide to go with your own stroller, please report back on how things went with security. I'm sure lots of readers are waiting for more information on how security is going to deal with the new rules.

I feel like today could go either way with the strollers. They may start off super strict to set the precedent, or maybe they'll be lenient for the first few days / weeks until word gets out. Will be interested to hear any reports today!

I'm curious about the amount of Keenz that will be labeled as a wheelchair or ADA. I know there are people on FB groups saying a CM told them that they would be OK, but curious what proof they will have to show or how many will get through.

Again, I do hope people who truly need it can, but obviously the system will be abused.

It'll be interesting to see exactly how they measure width. If they just have a painted box on the floor, then handles that extend beyond 31", where the base is thinner could get by.

I can see how it would just be easier to have a gate that is 31" wide. If you can walk your stroller through it, then you're good.

It bothers me that there are discussions on FB groups specifically to tell others how to get around to rules. Rules are there for a reason. People don't say, "I don't have to stop at the stop light because I have a kid with special needs." To me, the same thing applies with the stroller wagons. Rules are in place for so that everyone can enjoy something and get from place to place. Disney decided that wagons were banned and now they made the clarification that stroller wagons are banned as well. To me, if you don't like the rules you don't have to go. If you want to go, then find a way to accommodate your situation within the rules. Flame away.

I have some friends in WDW right now and yesterday they saw 5 stroller wagons. I personally hope that Disney is strict with this rule.

Rules update posted today on Reddit.

According to a user they are turning away people with Vapes.

Pictures from Facebook today are showing rectangles taped onto the ground for measuring in the security lines, and lines look looong.
