Smoking on balcony?

If you are a smoker, please do not smoke where you are not supposed to smoke. I am asthmatic, meaning, if you smoke I can not breathe and I have to spend precious time in the hospital hooked up to machines so I can take a breath. I try to stay away from areas where smoking occurs (so I am doing my part with this situation) but if other folks break the rules then I pay and I pay big time. Please…. If not for me then play by the rules for all the little folks who are asthmatic… By the way, a lot of my problems came from a father who thought his habit was more important than his children's health. :sad1:

Just remember if this turns into a debate the thread will be closed. This thread will stay as long as it stays about resort planning and is smoking on the balcony allowed.

I am confused now! My wife is a smoker, I thought the new law forbides smoking ANYWHERE in the park or hotels. Am I wrong? Are their still going to be certain smoke areas?

There are designated smoking areas at the resorts and parks. There is a sticky thread at the top of this board with the resort maps and the smoking areas.

The June 1 change is a new Disney policy, not a law.

There will still be designated smoking areas in all of the theme parks - that hasn't changed.

What HAS changed is that guests may no longer smoke in any WDW resort rooms or balconies. If a guest does smoke in their room or on their balcony, they will be charged a hefty cleaning fee.

There are now designated smoking areas at all of the resorts.

I quit last year when I found out I was pregnant, which wasn't too hard. But I can honestly say I miss smoking, if I wasn't afraid to get emphysema, I probably would start smoking again. It's been a year and I crave it more now than I ever did! But I will stay strong and not start again, which my husband would kill me if I did, since he stoped dipping when I quit smoking.

Please don't smoke on the balconies! We stayed in a non-smoking building at Pop, but there was a couple who would come out of their room(next to ours) and smoke by the balcony.
Just for general information - Pop Century doesn’t have balconies. As with the other Value resorts, and the Moderate resorts, room access is via a common outdoor walkway.

I love all of the advice for quitting. My dad smoked the entire time we were growing up and we took car trips every year with the air conditioner on. His best friend died from throat and lung cancers and he quit the day after his funeral. He did it cold turkey and never looked back. He is my hero. My dad is 70 years old and when he started, there were no filters. I tell him how proud I am of him all of the time. I don't smoke, never have, but I know it must be difficult to quit. For all those trying... hang in there, you can do it I know you can :cheer2:

Oh, and to stay on topic, we are on the first floor at WL for special needs, we have breathing equipment for my DS (6). We don't have a balcony but a patio. I'm sure they wouldn't put smoking area's close to the 1st floor patios right? Thanks.

For those trying to quit smoking, I salute you. I did it 6 years ago, and it was the hardest thing I ever did. I set a date 3 months in the future for my quit date. In the meantime, it was winter so I had lots of time to resent having to go outside in the cold and snow to smoke. And I kept images on my computer wallpaper of reasons I had for quitting (I was such an addicted smoker that a flight longer than 4 hours was impossible, so images of Hawaii and Tahiti were a strong incentive). I used the patch, but took it off while I slept, because it strong me as odd that I would actually increase my nicotine intake. When the cravings hit, I would go for a brisk walk. Chocolate covered almonds also help because they contain some of the other chemicals your body is missing.

DH still smokes, but he won't be smoking on any balconies on our upcoming trip. Even if it was an option he would go down to the smoking area in the resort. He doesn't smoke in our house, either.

I'm closing this thread - it is completely off topic for the resorts board.

If you would like to have a thread to discuss the ways and means of quitting smoking (btw - I quit on 12/23/06) please take the topic to the Community Board.
If you wish to discuss the DSAs at Disney Resorts please join this thread already in progress.
