Sorry, No you cannot

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1480681 here is the sticky thread on this subject and below is the official statement
New Smoke-Free Policy

. New Smoke-Free Policy

All Walt Disney World® Resorts, including Disney Vacation Club Resorts, will become smoke-free on June 1, 2007. During the past five years Guest demand for smoking rooms has been declining steadily. Currently, less than 3.5 percent of Walt Disney World's 24,000 resort rooms are smoking optional.

The new policy applies to all guest rooms, patios, and balconies, and designates outdoor smoking areas at all resorts affected by the change. Smoking is currently prohibited in all lobbies, restaurants, and convention spaces. This policy will allow us to better accommodate the large numbers of Members who request non-smoking accommodations and complements our efforts to provide our Guests with the healthy living options they are requesting.

i am not a smoker but one of the guests staying in our party is, and wondered where do they smoke in POP century designated areas. Also, do the parks still have designated smoking areas?

Yes the parks do have designated area's.

I just read on the Canadian thread that some guests were caught on the security camera smoking and were fined $269.

Please don't smoke on the balconies! We stayed in a non-smoking building at Pop, but there was a couple who would come out of their room(next to ours) and smoke by the balcony. It was really bothersome to us, as both my son and I are allergic to smoke. I'm not a confrontational person, so we would just make sure to look out the window before we came out. I imagine it was a similar person who caused our first room on the next trip to reek of smoke. We ended up carting our luggage a second time to get a room that didn't smell of smoke. I don't understand why a smoker wouldn't just book a smoking room?:confused3

All rooms at Disney are now non-smoking, so booking a smoking room is no longer an option. I can't see why people just don't quit smoking. Many states you can't smoke in restaurants, many hotel chains are now completely non-smoking including Disney recently....I think people should take a hint and just quit....no one wants to be around smokers anymore. Okay, this is coming from a non-smoker, and from what I hear it is very hard. But my father smoked, and as a child I was ashamed of his smoking (none of my friend's parents smoked) and I vowed to never smoke. I can say I never tried it...even once. I hate to be around people who smoke, and personally, if I saw someone illegally smoking on their balcony I wouldn't hesitate to turn them in.

I am now a non-smoker. I wasn't 4 months ago. Stopping smoking was one of the hardest things I ever done. I was always a respectful smoker and would only smoke where I was allowed to smoke, but none the less I smoked. Even when we were allowed to smoke indoors I would check with the person next to me in case it might bother them. I am glad you never tried it & I am glad you haven't had to try and quit. & I am going to leave it at that. Have a Disney day.

Congrats on quitting!!! Can I ask how you did it? My sister smokes (obviously my father's habit and early death did not have the same effect on her as it did me.....she started when she went off to college). But she wants to quit now because I think she is thinking of starting a family. She is embarrassed of the habit as well (she won't smoke at work since she doesn't want anyone to know she smokes). She tried one quitting aid, not sure which one, but she said she was miserable for two weeks and gained alot of weight. Any advice for her?

I used the patch for about 3 weeks as I don't do well with drugs. My husband (bless him for stopping with me) used the patch and now the gum. I still want a cigarette every day. I am told it will lessen with time. I believe if you are the child of a person with an addiction (alcohol, gambling, smoking, etc.) it is harder to quit. Having people around you supporting you is probably the most important piece of advice I can offer. Penny

I quit about 8-9 months ago now. I just quit. There are some days that I feel I want one, but most days arent bad. I do work with smokers which does make it harder. There have been nights when I'd dream I was having a smoke and when I woke up I was freaking out thinking I had cracked and given in. But so far, so good :) :thumbsup2

quit cold turkey. after 2 days any physical symptoms of nicotine addiction are gone. the rest is mental toughness. anyone can do it with enough willpower.

try mixing in exercise instead of overeating that will address the "weight gain" problem.

dburg - I have it easier than you. We aren't allowed to smoke at work and most of my friends are nonsmokers. I was around a smoker last weekend and while I wanted to snatch it out of his hand and smoke it myself, :lmao: , i didn't. :thumbsup2 Best of luck to you. Penny

Congratulations to you! You did it the hard way, too...both you and your husband quitting at the same time. We did that as well and it was the toughest thing to do. It's hard to believe that it will soon be ten years since we quit. The smoking dreams and urges do lessen, but we still get them. Most often when we are doing something for the first time without a cigarette.

My husband and I loved smoking but will never go back to it....because we don't want to go through quitting again!!!!!

Hang in there...it's a great feeling when those little sticks no longer have control over you!

Thanks for the words of encouragement, it is harder for DH than it is for me. I have been smoking much longer but the Doctor gave me a choice. I decided that to stop smoking was the better choice, so I came home from the hospital :rolleyes1 & had a "last cig" and haven't had one since. He stopped because he didn't want to smoke in front of me. He is the best DH in the world. :goodvibes
Thanks so much Penny

Absolutly, well said. IMHO the only way to quit is cold turkey. I tried the patch, gum, stop smoking kits, hypno therapy, everything possible. One day I just said heck with it i'm done! I took up exercising and have now been smoke free for 3 years! Unfortunatly my wife won't take my advise. I think you just really have to want to quit before you can. Just like losing weight, you have to work at it, their is NO miracle pill.:)

The worst part about this is I think that cigs are more addicting than they used to be. I quit years ago without any issues, but I am having HUGE issues with quitting now. I stop for a couple days then bam, I am back at it. The good thing is I am staying in a NON-Smoking hotel for this vacation and looking forward to going a full week without a cig. . .then maybe, just maybe from there I can continue the non-smoking habit. . .

I am a quitter too. I quit 3 years ago and it was the HARDEST thing I have ever done. Cold Turkey is the way to go. After 3 days max it is all over with.

I remember when I did smoke and the CM at the front desk did not have a room for me. She told me to smoke on the balcony and houskeeping actually brought me ashtrays to use. A little crazy looking back on it now. I must say now I am the biggest hippocrite and I cant stand the smell of smoke anywhere near me. I have become a smoke hater.

We were there 2 weeks ago and the smoking area at Pop (the one I noticed, there may have been more) was right out back of the Hotel lobby building, between there and the pool.
