Hi there :goodvibes

I just wondered what the smoking policy is on the BW. Yes, I am a smoker (please don't hate me for it, I try to be very respectful of others).

I just want to know if there are designated smoking areas on the BW (like in the parks and resorts) or if you are free to smoke anywhere outside at the BW?

I just want to know the rules ahead of time, so I can abide by them and not offend anyone-thanks!!

Hi there, i'm not sure how correct this information is due to the fact that it had no date on which it was updated:

*Near Convention Center Entrances (2 Places)
*Near Lobby Entrance
*Outside of the Bell Vue Room
*Main Courtyard
*Main Courtyard Alcove
*Near Quiet Pool
*Outside of the ESPN Zone
*Near Sea Breeze Point
Or you can take a quick glance at this pdf map.

**I would also like to say thank you, for wanting to abide by the rules :)

Thanks very much for that info :goodvibes Only thing is, does this info only cover the Boardwalk Inn (resort)? Do you know about the rest of the BW area? It's a whole strip with stores and stuff, right?

I'm curious about that whole area-the international gateway all the way around the Boardwalk. Even if there is no one around, I certainly don't want to light up a cigarette while we are walking if I am not allowed to.

& you are very welcome. Although I'm a smoker, I am very aware that it is an offensive habit and I would be terribly embarrassed if I did not follow the rules. I am grateful that smokers have designated areas in the parks-for the sake of both parties-smokers have a contained place to go and it cuts down on litter and nonsmokers can have the option of staying away from us if the smoke bothers them. and I got really annoyed on my last trip to see people lighting up and walking around the parks (there were a few) because they make people like me look bad. :sad1:

I understand and know how to find all the park and resort smoking areas, but I haven't seen any info about the Boardwalk or DTD.

I can try and find something for you, but I can't guarentee i'll have any luck. We need more people like you in the world, who care about others :)

Apparently, at DTD the smoking areas are the same. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I found it on another thread.

I am not sure about the Boardwalk but...

As a smoker, staying on Disney Property, I never had trouble spotting or finding a smoking area. I was so happy about that. I was nervous about abiding by the rules and all that too. It seemed everytime I was about ready for a smoke though - there was a smoking area. I thought everywhere I went (the parks, DTD, and my hotel, POP) was really accomodating.

And when you look on the maps you get from the counter or the ones posted, the smoking areas become a lot clearer and you will feel relieved to see that there are plenty! I know I did!

Have fun!! :thumbsup2

Thank you-I appreciate your efforts and I also appreciate no one flaming me for being a smoker (I've seen some nasty threads on here-nasty from both sides...)

Thanks! :) So, you are saying that DTD has designated smoking areas, right?

Yes, I found the parks and resorts to be quite accomodating as well! The only thing is, I noticed at the parks, there weren't really any signs indicating a smoking area. Or if there were, we must have missed them. Did you notice this too? Didn't affect me, because if the trash had an ashtray on top, I knew it was a designated smoking area (or I could look at the map). But I did witness several nonsmokers sitting on a bench in that area complaining and giving us dirty looks. We had one person act very rude towards us for smoking and I had to point out it was a designated smoking area and point to the ashtray. I'm guessing she didn't realize it was a designated area....

I was there in August and found the smoking areas no problem. The Boardwalk is a pretty open area so those "jeanie bottle" ashtrays are pretty easy to spot. Mostly you can find them outside of the restaurants.

I noticed smaller signs...I think... I seem to think this happened the most in EPCOT...but I was trying to drink my way around the world, so it's a bit foggy!!!:lmao:

I just mostly ran into those ashtray top garbage cans and was happy!! I honestly never had to go looking for a spot. It was great!

That is rude if someone is going to say something to you about smoking in the area assigned to smokers. Try all you want to be respectful and polite...some people. :confused3

This happened to me once too! A woman started lecturing me on ruining her lunch she was eating on a bench in a smoking area at DHS-:confused3
She didn't seem to care when I told her she was in a designated smoking area-I was still aweful for smoking there. Ya can't win with some people :sad2:

If you are confused about what is or isn't a smoking area, you can follow a simple thing. Don't walk around with a lit cigarette (cigar, pipe, whatever). If there is an ashtray, stand near it and smoke. Then you know you are "safe".

As a non smoker, if I see a group huddled around something and smoking, I know it's a smoking area and will avoid it.

To the PP about the smoking area at the Hollywood Studios - I know EXACTLY where you are talking about. W had to sit over there since it was the only place we could find. We noticed the smoking but then realized where we were and decided our lunch was more important. It was our fault for sitting where we were.

If you look at the map linked here, you can see several smoking areas around Crescent Lake in the BW area. They are usually with a bench near the rail that overlooks the lake, maybe four of them over the distance.

The last time I was at JellyRolls, it was a smoking place. It's been a few years, though.

Because of all the discussion about it lately, (I don't smoke, but, I used too) I was trying to see how difficult it would be to find a smoking area or avoid one. I found it really difficult. There were no signs, just the park maps and an approximate area and then, if lucky, you might spot the ashtray topped trash cans.

I don't think they made it very easy at all. If you are not a map reader and not terribly observant, I can understand why they just give up and smoke anywhere. The observation that I had on my trip a couple of weeks ago is that random smoking is as bad as I have seen it since they enacted the designated area policy. People were smoking everywhere and not a single CM seemed to care at all. I would like to see the designated areas be successful because, having had the addiction, I know how it can totally zap the fun out of everything to not have a place to go, but, the continued allowing of smoking everyplace will eventually result in a total ban.

If there are any CM's reading this please enforce this rule. It is as important as what time the 3:00 parade is. It bothers those that do not smoke and totally alarms the smokers that want to be courteous and not bother others. They see that and just know that more and more pressure is going to be put on Disney to just stop it completely and then think about how hard your job is going to be when you can't just point to a designated area. Instead you'll have to have a face to face, put it out or get out, confrontation. Ignoring it now will not be worth it.

I'm a smoker and never have a hard time finding a smoking area, I even try to stand away from the non smokers that are in the smoking areas, especially if they have small children with them. I don't like the smokers that smoke aoutside of the designated areas, since it makes us all look bad. I usually follow the advice posted earlier, if there is an ashtray you are safe, if not find the ashtray.

Just wish I could smoke on my balcony. But I don't mind going out to the smoking areas too much, just wish they weren't at the main entrance to the resort. At least I haven't smoked as much as I would have if I could smoke on the balcony.

Also thanks for the info on the boardwalk smoking areas, going there tonight need to go to Jellyrolls  , and it was a help.
