SMASH thread!

Yes, I had the wrong sis. I just went back to double check which sister is was, but you bet me to it. ;)

Grace also was a regular in the one season TV show "Off the Map" last year.

I wonder if she will be a "Miss Golden Globe"
someday. That award show usually wants someone who is a second generation (or more) actress who hands out the Golden Globes to the winners. Considering her mm has been nominated for one, more than any other actress, it would be apropos.

I just looked at her picture up at the IMDb.com. Her B&W pic does make her look extremely like Meryl.

Was it my imagination or did they have a different actor playing Eilene's Ex-husband?

He does nothing for me. :confused3 I don't even like him as Joe

Kae
I agree. There's something not quite right about his Joe. And while I loved the song, I couldn't stand his facial expressions during "Lexington & 52nd Street." What's with the wrinkled nose?

I also love "Let's Be Bad" - someone did some great channelling of Cole Porter!

(Yes, I'm a Broadway geek, too.)

I actually loved Michael as Joe DiMaggio, but now they've gotten rid of him I'll be interested to see who they get to replace him. If they're going with a star for Marilyn, will they go with a star for Joe? I loved the song "Lexington and 52nd Street," and would love to see someone else sing it too.

Debra Messing and Ivy were kind of annoying this week. :headache:

Debra cheats on her husband & she acts like the wounded victim? :headache: :headache: :headache:

Ivy is turning out to be mean & bitter. She's in a Broadway show, making money that way instead of waiting tables and she's acting ungrateful. She's mean to Karen, who needs to wise up.

What's with Ivy saying she was up for that OJ commercial? They were auditioning for it. It's not like she had it in the bag. She's got Lindsay Lohan's attitude of feeling entitled.

I did like how Eileen put Ellis in his place. :thumbsup2

I'm really not liking Ivy much at all right now. She is acting very entitled.
Did anyone else think it was really odd how chummy Ivy and Karen were when they were drunk? That whole part was just odd.

I LOVED Eileen putting Ellis in his place! I can't wait for his whole scheming plans to backfire on him.....

Yes, I thought it was odd. But, part of it, I attributed to the show needing to get a song in somehow, since the workshop is on the back burner. And two, Karen is pretty naive. Up until Ivy said that didn't make them best friends now, I think she thought they had become friends. Whereas Ivy USED Karen because she was conveniently around. I'm not liking her either.

I thought it would have been a nice touch if Ivy had reached into her trash can and dug out the sunglasses if they still were there. But, she's just too self-absorbed & needy.

Hello Ivy, it's just a workshop right now. I think the majority of them never get to Broadway for a whole host of reasons. She's acting like just because she was picked for Marilyn, that has some extra cachet.

I like the new title......

Bombshell

But Uma thurmand as Marilyn next week?????????????????????:confused3

I love it too! To me, probably the best creative thing so far, that title is perfecto!:thumbsup2
I like the show, but I like Debra Messing so much better in comedic roles. She just looks SOOOOOO p'd off to me all the time, with a bit of "I can't be bothered" thrown in there. It makes it hard for me to think she is that desirable to either guy. I mean, has she smiled at all yet? I think she is going for the tortured soul theme, but it just isn't playing well for me.

Yeah, Uma? Again. love her but not really as Marilyn...but I can see her creating an awesome Diva character!:thumbsup2

Was Ivy even really "up" for the OJ commercial? As I remember it, she was late for her audition appointment and bumped into Karen as Karen left her audition appointment. The door closed behind Karen before Ivy even got in the audition room and you can hear someone say something to the effect that "she was wonderful! (or "perfect" or "great" I don't remember the exact adjective.)

My DD went to enough auditions to know that having an appointment to audition doesn't mean you're "up" for a part. (FWIW, she decided that she doesn't handle rejection well enough to be in show business. Good career choice; she's now an accomplished portrait photographer.)

Good for DD in knowing what she can handle, rather than torture herself.

I don't think Ivy was "up" for the commercial either. Just because someone has an audition slot, I don't think means they are guaranteed anything. She is delusional and quite unlikable right now. Is there anything redeeming about her?

I don't care for the name "Bombshell." I think it has the chance to bite them in the butt with nasty reviews if the show BOMBS. :p

I also don't think Uma is going to stay around for very long. I think she will guest star for a few weeks, be a diva, wreak havoc and ultimately "part ways" as they have creative (attitudinal) differences with her. Then it will be back to Ivy & Karen possibly back up for the role again.

I think she's simply channelling Marilyn. The difference is that Marilyn was a star when she went off the deep end.

And you're right - everyone who does a workship like that knows that it's only a "possible."

I actually thought that Debra Messing was pretty good in this episode. "I won't let anyone take responsibility for what I did." To me, that's not a "wounded victim." Just because she's responsible (and she knows it) for destroying her marriage doesn't mean that she can't be devastated by it, too.

I was just disappointed that Norbert Leo Butz was given so little to do!

Can Uma Thurman sing well enough to be a star in a Broadway musical? Or am I basing too much in reality?

Not sure I liked this week's episode, although I did enjoy seeing Eileen put Ellis in his place.

Since Uma Thurman is pregnant, I don't see her sticking around too long on the show.

According to IMDB, Uma Thurman is in 5 episodes of SMASH this season. It sounds like she will be around for a bit.

For me, Debra reminded me too much of a character she played in, the Wedding Date, in which she hires male prostitute, Dermot Mulroney to be her date. While she was responsible for part of her situation, she was also kind of victimy in that. I feel like, we've seen that Debra, do something new. :p

She could probably do the breathy Marilyn who sings "Happy Birthday, Mr. President." I actually thought when karen sang, "Touch Me," that the song was too low and belty to really have been sung by "Marilyn."

Since Uma Thurman is pregnant, I don't see her sticking around too long on the show.

They may decide to use that in the story line. :thumbsup2 She finds out she's pregnant and pulls out of the show completely. They are back to square one with no star and no real viable Marilyn. This of course drives Ivy crazy and into further depression. :headache:
