I got the idea for this thread from many of the posters and their good memories of the resorts and their benefits.
In 2003, we came down for Christmas but stopped off in Gainesville so I could golf with some college buddies. It was in the high 40's, low 50's, but we had snow in Ohio and my sons wanted to swim. They swam at the pool in Gainesville while I golfed, even though the wife tried to talk them out of it.
Then the next day we drove to WDW and CBR. After checking in, my youngest son started running a fever and getting sick. I called the front desk at CBR and asked them for directions to the nearest Urgent Care Facility. They told me to wait and they would be there. Within 5 minutes, I had a knock at my door and a taxi driver from Mears had medical paperwork and took my son and I to a hospital outside the Main Gate. I filled out the paperwork on the way and when we got there, we went in the back entrance...all arranged by WDW. I tried to pay the cabbie, but he said he would wait and I could pay him later. We were at the hospital for about 1 hour, and we had our prescription filled at the same place. The cabbie drove us back and I asked for the cost. He said it was part of staying on-site and it was no cost, WDW would pay him. I gave him a healthy tip.
It is these small things that make it so beneficial to stay on property. I have heard/read many stories about guests who had some of the same issues and WDW seemed to go out of their way to make it good/positive. I like reading some of the posts about the cost of staying on-site, but it really seems to be a small price for such great service.
Any similar incidents from you all?
