Small things that Disney does that seem big

I got the idea for this thread from many of the posters and their good memories of the resorts and their benefits.

In 2003, we came down for Christmas but stopped off in Gainesville so I could golf with some college buddies. It was in the high 40's, low 50's, but we had snow in Ohio and my sons wanted to swim. They swam at the pool in Gainesville while I golfed, even though the wife tried to talk them out of it.

Then the next day we drove to WDW and CBR. After checking in, my youngest son started running a fever and getting sick. I called the front desk at CBR and asked them for directions to the nearest Urgent Care Facility. They told me to wait and they would be there. Within 5 minutes, I had a knock at my door and a taxi driver from Mears had medical paperwork and took my son and I to a hospital outside the Main Gate. I filled out the paperwork on the way and when we got there, we went in the back entrance...all arranged by WDW. I tried to pay the cabbie, but he said he would wait and I could pay him later. We were at the hospital for about 1 hour, and we had our prescription filled at the same place. The cabbie drove us back and I asked for the cost. He said it was part of staying on-site and it was no cost, WDW would pay him. I gave him a healthy tip.

It is these small things that make it so beneficial to stay on property. I have heard/read many stories about guests who had some of the same issues and WDW seemed to go out of their way to make it good/positive. I like reading some of the posts about the cost of staying on-site, but it really seems to be a small price for such great service.

Any similar incidents from you all?

Well you were very lucky. I can tell you I did not have the same experience with my dd when she needed to go to the ER.

On one trip (we've made over 60), we were happily driving down and my husband, who was going 74 MPH in a 70 zone, was pulled over by a not so nice cop. The cop told my husband he was clocked at doing 86 MPH in the zone! I just about gagged and said something because I had told my husband I thought 74 was too slow and I wanted to get to Disney World. My husband explained that the cruise control was on and he knew it wasn't anywhere near over 80 MPH and the cop said "your cruise control is broken." My husband then asked for a clock device and the cop stuttered and said his partner that was on the other side of the highway had recorded it and it would take some time to get that all set up. My husband said he would wait. The cop them said he would lower the ticket down to 83 so it wouldn't be 10 MPH over the limit. My husband said he would wait. Then the cop said he would lower it to 76 MPH and reduce the expected fine. This took a lot of time so we were extremely frustrated when we arrived. The Cast Member at the front desk greeted us warmly and asked if we had had a nice trip. We laughed and said no and explained why. The Cast Member listened and then asked if we had the cop's name and she would put it in for a "cannot come to Disney World" issue and then turned around and handed us a balloon for our troubles.

And another one that we were discussing with some friends the other night. How tired we are of having to be polite to Cast Members just when we are walking from our resort room to the buses. As my husband says, "even the freaking guy pulling weeds wishes you a good day!"

Stayed at POR & took the boat to downtown Disney to Fulton's for dinner. My mom left her purse there when we came back at 10. We told the boat captain, he told us to go to bed & arranged for the purse to be at the front desk in the morning. It was such a relief!

Checked out of CBR and headed to Cape May for the Character Breakfast before our drive back home. During breakfast our niece realized she didn't have her stuffed Pooh Bear. After breakfast tore the luggage and van apart but no Pooh Bear. Drove back over to CBR and explained to the Concierge what happened. He grabbed a golf cart and took me to what was our room and the housekeeping had already turned over the room. Checked all the drawers etc but no dice. The housekeeper was nowhere to be found. Concierge took our information and said he would contact housekeeping and the laundry to keep an eye out for him and he'd let me know. We headed home with one sad little 3 yr old. When we pulled into our driveway the next day there was a package on the door step. I noticed the return address was CBR so we ran in to open it right away. It was my niece's Pooh Bear plus a Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet to match. She went through the roof. She still talks about that and still has all of them on her bed. She's 12 now.

Sounds familiar. Except we were leaving Disney to take my grandkids home to Ft Lauderdale. I was in right lane semi about 50 yards behind me, another semi 100 yards in front. Car comes flying by in left lane. I see a cop on right shoulder look at my speedometer and I'm doing 71, car that flew by hit brakes but is now past FHP. I move over like suppose to, FHP pulls into right lane and stops, I slow down (theres a uturn opening and I thought she was trying to cross.) She waves me by, I go by and get back in right lane. Shes behind and turns on light. She claims I was doing "86" in a 70. My 21 yr old daughter and I started laughing. My last speeding ticket was 1989. I decided then it costs too much.cop tried saying because it was a rentalcar maybe speedometer broken. I said ma'am I dont speed, you must've clocked the greyblue 4 door sedan, she said there was no other car. I hired a lawyer and I'm fighting....if I did id pay like I did in 1989 but I wasn't speeding...its a joke with family and friends that I'm a turtle, slow but I always get there.
