Anyone ever cook a whole chicken in a slow cooker? The recipes I see are all for a 3 to 4 pound whole chicken roaster .........my chicken is 6 to 7 pounds. How long should I cook this without drying it out?

What are you putting in with it for moisture? I wouldn't think it would dry out in a crock pot, as long as you had a little something moist in there.

As far as time, I generally put mine on high for 5-6 hours (probably excessive, but it makes the meat sooooo tender - and it falls apart!) no matter what I'm cooking (roast, chicken, etc.)

I have some sliced sweet potatos on the bottom of the crock. I pierced a lemon & stuffed that into the cavity of the chicken. Then, I mixed orange juice & honey (about 1 1/2 cups) and poured that over the top. I set it for 10 hours on low this morning (which is equal to 5 hours on high, i believe)......so we'll see!

You should be fine. I do large chickens all the time in mine and they always turn out moist and delicious without having to add any extra liquid.

Wow! That sounds like a tasty chicken. I think I will try it soon!

It WAS delicious! The potatos tasted "candied" - I guess because of the honey. Even though the chicken was 6 pounds - I could have gotten away with 8 or 9 hours on low (instead of 10).....i will make this one again!
