Do you feel the need to have some type of dessert after dinner?

:cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake:

*Yes - I was raised with having dessert after every dinner.
My mom always made sure she had something in the house - cookies, Hostess products, brownies and etc.
Now, I'm the same way - I always make sure I have something sweet for my kids (and me too :upsidedow).
Suprisingly my girls aren't as attracted by sugar like I am, so they only have dessert 50% of the time.

I voted other. We never actually have dessert right after dinner. My kids usually have some kind of snack later in the evening whether it's fruit, popcorn, a popsicle, cookies, crackers etc. I usually have some kind of snack later in the evening too, but it's not always a sweet snack, actually it rarely is, I prefer salty. The only time we eat a traditional dessert is on a special occasion such as a birthday or holiday.

I try to avoid it, but do indulge on special occasions.
When kids were in the house, there were at least always cookies and ice cream around, but they weren't served as dessert after a meal.

We rarely have desserts in the house. We just don't eat most of that kind of stuff. Case in point: I made a double layer chocolate cake with buttercream frosting, completely from scratch, for DD's boyfriend's birthday two weeks ago. We still have about a third of the cake in the fridge. We just don't eat it. Even if there is leftover pie (which we all prefer to cake), most of the time it'll sit in the fridge until it molds. We rarely have cookies in the house (sometimes DH will buy Oreos, which he'll eat in about a week), and don't do much baking because it just goes to waste. DH loves to snack on pretzels and saltines, which don't do a THING for me, so there's not too much snacking happening here, either.

The exception to this is ice cream. A 1.5 quart container of ice cream will last the 3 of us about a week or so. I don't know if this is a fast rate of consumption or not. Hmmm... I guess that's 6 cups of ice cream for 3 people, or 2 cups per person, so a week to eat 2 cups of ice cream doesn't seem excessive. I guess we are just not everyday dessert people.

The only time I do dessert is when I'm hosting a dinner party or grill out.

I was not brought up with dessert as an automatic. For some reason, it's become that way.
My husband's family does dessert immediately after eating dinner. I think of it more as a snack later when you've digested some of that dinner. (I prefer ice cream over a baked good most of the time).

I said sometimes - it depends on the meal. Holidays, yes, I usually have dessert. Regular meals, I seldom do. If anything, it's a piece or two of chocolate, or a cookie. As someone who has a cupcake tattoo on her arm, you'd think I'd be ALL about desserts, lol.

Husband and daughter typically always have dessert after dinner. I typically don't. As I age I'm finding I crave salt way more than sweet.

I typically have something sweet a few hours after dinner - handful of chocolate chips, a bowl of cereal, or a spoonful of pb.

growing up, we had dessert after Sunday dinners (usually Mousse or pudding), and after holiday meals.

Yes, I crave sweet after a meal.

These days I often satisfy that craving with 2 squares of extra dark chocolate (80-90%)

I rarely have dessert except when I bake cookies or cake. Or if we have watermelon or blueberries in the house. My youngest daughter usually has ice cream every night.

We rarely have dessert at the table after a meal, usually just on holidays or other special occasions. And it's always at least a half hour or so later. But there's always ice cream, cookies, or Taskykakes if you want a snack several hours later. Maybe two or three times a year we order dessert in a restaurant.

I voted other. We don't really look at it as dessert, more of a snack, and it is usually a couple hours after supper or between lunch and supper. (During the summer we tend to go over to the local ice cream place after supper, but it's at least an hour after.) Rarely do we get dessert when we are out to eat, it is usually only for a special occasion.

Don't get me wrong, we keep plenty of sweets in the house. They are for snacking though.

I was raised that way. Always had dessert after the family dinner. Home made cake or pie or ice cream at the very least. Rarely have desserts anymore. Just occassionally when dining out.

Sometimes, depends on the meal. Sometimes I just want fruit, other times I MUST have something sweet. Sometimes, it's just not wanted.

Yes! I love dessert. Always after dinner, but we usually wait at least an hour or two so we can digest. Hardly ever order dessert at a restaurant for that reason. We'll either go out for ice cream later, or eat something at home.

I'd rather have my snacks as a snack - sweet or salty. I don't like eating sweet stuff right after dinner.

And I don't eat chips with meals either. They are strictly a snack. :)
