On the main floor, it's a shared duty... we don't touch it often, but sometimes we'll bump it up or down. I have the app on my phone, which allowed me to set a schedule for it. Downstairs, we have a Daikin system, so the kids have their own system in their rooms which they control themselves. There's also a unit in the family room downstairs, which is more DH's domain and he controls that.

We don’t change the temperature because we have geothermal heating/cooling, and as explained by our installer, it’s actually more work ($$$$) for the system to change the household temperature than to maintain a consistent temperature.

So, DH chose the temperatures since I’m always cold and he’s always hot. We keep it 67 in the winter and 69 in the summer. I use blankets year round and use our fireplace extensively in the winter.

I live with my sister and we both control the thermostats. The ground floor one is shared and we each control our own upstairs zone.

I pay the bill so I control it. I told my adult daughter that for an extra $100 a month she could control it. She runs much cooler than I do so she would have the heater set higher during the winter.

I do find as I am getting older that I’m less tolerant of both the heat and cold so I have adjusted the thermostat accordingly.

Our homes are both controlled by a programmable thermometer which dh sets with an app on his phone. This summer has been a fight since I am hot all the time. I'm sorry but 77 degrees is not AC. If I drop it below 75, there is typically a heated discussion (pun unintended). I'm sweating in shorts and a tank; I'm not going to be naked to get cool in my own home!

:thanks:

My spouse does for the most part. I was raised to think that something might explode if I were to touch the thermostat. I also don't really notice temperatures unless it's extreme one way or the other. I've been known to lower it in the summertime if I get really hot. He likes keeping it at 77 -- I prefer 72-74. I'm the one working full-time. I don't play that card often, but when I do, it's because of house temperature.

I do. But mostly because no one else in the house will adjust it unless they are super uncomfortable. And even then, they usually mention it to me first-- "mom, it's really hot upstairs" or "hey, are you freezing too? should I adjust the heat?"

We prefer to dress for the weather, so we keep our house fairly cold in the winter and warm in the summer. So, typically everyone's first response is to change their clothing rather than changing the thermostat. We also have fans in every room so that's the second option that everyone tries before adjusting the heat/ac.

It is just my husband and myself and we both change it as needed. I wish either of us could change it now, the AC died last night and it’s going to be 95 here today. My AC person retired in the fall so it was a fun morning of calling places and being told because of the holiday weekend they are currently only helping current customers. Luckily I got a recommendation from someone and have someone coming on Friday and they will let me know if they have a cancellation.

DW controls the thermostat, which is fine. I'm normally ok with the temp in the house, but if it starts to get a bit warm she'll turn it down a notch or two. We got a new HVAC system last year and it does a nice job of keeping all three levels of the house comfortable.

My aunt is Master of the House, and she controls the thermostat. It stays on 73F all year-round. If, like this week, we're having a heatwave, she might grant permission to lower it to 72F.

My wife. And her temperature preferences have changed drastically over the 41 years we've been married.
When we first got married she kept it too warm for my liking.
Now she keeps it too cold.
It has been 100+ degrees outside the past week. During the day she keeps the house at 75, and 70 at night otherwise her sinuses go bonkers. We have solar panels so at least in the summer keeping it cooler doesn't cost anything extra.

Im the one with the app to control it so I’m in control and everyone knows better than to touch it lol. It’s usually on 69/70 year round, although if I get hot or cold I’ll adjust it.

I turn the system off in the winter, since it rarely gets that cold here and the house is well insulated. In the summer, it’s usually set at 78 during the day and 72 at night. We have a four zone system, so only the zone that includes my bedroom gets turned down at night. The rest of the house remains set at 78.

Thermostat stays at 60 in the winter. Hard and fast rule here, as we have poor insulation, oil heat, and cold winters. We keep lap throws and blankets in the living room for winter evenings. HOWEVER... this might change. We had a gas heating system installed last summer and we were warmer than ever this winter, for a much lower cost than with the oil heat. I think the difference is the efficiency of the gas burner and of course the much cheaper rate for gas, so I might get more flexible on the thermostat next winter!

In the summer, the thermostat is set as low as it can go, basically off. We don't have air conditioning, and our casement windows mean we can't have window units. We have ceiling fans and floor fans, and make do. Sometimes it is not fun.

My husband and I share responsibility. If I’m too hot I’ll ask if he minds if I turn it down a bit. When he’s cold in winter, he’ll ask before he turns up the heat.

We have fairly new heat and AC systems. Both are infinite speed, generally running extended periods of time but at very low power, and cost, and high, steady comfort levels. Heat is set at 69, AC set to 76. Whichever is needed, that's the one that runs.

We might temporarily adjust if coming in from the outside and it's very cold out or very hot out and we're looking for a warmer or cooler feeling for a short period of time.

As for who, either of us adjusts if needed/desired. I have app on phone, Marie doesn't want it on her phone. Marie won't set thermostat lower or higher if leaving the house for an extended period of time. I will, if I remember, which is most of the time. If I forget, I'll raise or lower from my app, when I remember. Maybe 30 minutes before expected return home, I'll reset from my phone. Like now, neither of us are home. Heat index here today is at 106. I have thermostat set at 80. Before we go home I'll drop it to 76. When we get home it will be 76.

Temperature is based on the fact that if we turn it down more in the summer we couldn’t afford it and our A/C system isn’t the best and our house isn’t well insulated, so 78 it is. We will still pay between $350 and $400 this month (our house is 1000sq ft) The winter I keep it on the cool side and people need to dress accordingly. You need socks and layers and a blanket and we go from there. Lol. We set it around 65 when the heater is on.
