Never had it. Not a fan of mushrooms. So no desire to try. We always had peas with Thanksgiving until one of my nephews was hospitalized with an allergic reaction after eating peas at preschool. Now we have broccoli. Learned a couple years ago after suggesting having green beans minus the casserole that my mom doesn’t like green beans.

I voted it’s ok. I can take it or leave it. I grew up eating it, and most of my family loves it (including DH, who never had it before he met me). My mom’s old recipe uses mushroom soup, evaporated milk and Velveeta, and is kind of gloppy. There are many other vegetables I would prefer, prepared in a healthier way.

I haven't had it in a long time (we usually just make sauteed green beans), but when available, I would usually take a spoonful or two for my plate.

My opinion: Why would you do that to green beans? It’s a hard no for me. I like my veggies fairly simple. If we’re doing green beans I prefer fresh, sautéed with bacon and onions and finished off in the oven. If going to a gathering I always volunteer to bring a large steamer with tons of veggies. It’s usually the first thing to run out. (And I bring a few pounds)

Because everything is good with bacon :)
:offtopic: Dawa Bar in Animal Kingdom makes an amazing Bloody Mary, garnished with a substantial slice of candied bacon. It's perfect with the slightly-spicy drink. I enjoyed a couple of these while making friends with a lovely couple from Connecticut, a few weeks ago!

Yeah - I make a Maple Sriracha Bacon and use it in an old fashion.

I also have used it in ice cream and that is pretty good as well.

Yeah - we had creamed tuna fish and peas on toast - and it was a treat.

Still have fond memories of it - but don't try it now - it will ruin the memories.
Creamed tuna on toast with peas, at least once a week. My mom made her own cream sauce, no condensed soup.

I absolutely totally hate green bean casserole. I've eaten it many MANY times. Doesn't matter who's making it, it always tastes gross. So I never make it or serve it at our house.

Is it a taste or texture thing? Because I hate mushrooms (mostly find the texture disgusting), but have no issues with anything made with cream of mushroom soup. Or you could use any other "cream of" soup.

And, I will be enjoying another one next week!
Cheers to you!

I love it, but it has never been on our Thanksgiving table. It is something we make year round.

I hate mushrooms but I love green bean casserole. LOL I actually don't like onions either but I do like those crispy ones that go on top. The canned cream of mushroom soup actually has very few mushrooms so I am able to get around them, (I usually just pick them out).

I am actually making it for our family Thanksgiving this year. I am making it 2 ways. 1 with cream of Mushroom and 1 with cream of Celery. Partially out of necessity, our oven is out of commission so I have to use my countertop rotisserie/convection oven that only holds an 8x8 square pan so I am doing 2 square pans instead of a 13 x 9 one.

I think it mostly a texture thing. I would try the casserole if someone made it but would never make it on my own.

I love it. I commit the cardinal sin someone else mentioned of making my own recipe instead of using cans, and my family is okay with that. We didn't have it at the table when my kids were little, so making it from scratch isn't going against anyones expectations of how it should be.

I'm with the group that really enjoys it, but no one else in the family will touch it. I made a batch last year but not bothering this year. It's simple enough to prepare, but I'm already making cranberry sauce which is another thing no one else will eat. Besides, there is so much food in the house there's no need for it.

It was always served when I was a kid. I liked mushrooms, I liked green beans and I loved those crispy onions, but somehow it wasn't a huge hit with me. Now I get a nostalgic craving for it about every 10 years.

GBC must be an East Coast thing - I had never heard of it until I started dating DW (from Boston). TO be fair, she had never head of putting things like shredded carrots in Jell-o and that's what I grew up with. We have dropped the Jell-o from the menu but GBC makes the cut every Thanksgiving. I voted it's just OK FWIW.
