My daddy owned multiple motorcyles throughout his life time. Towards the end, he bought a Honda Goldwing and he would take me on short rides around town. It was enjoyable enough but I was happy to sell it when he passed. It always made me nervous. I lost a family friend to a motorcycle accident 10+ years ago and the horrible effects of that still impact his family. When my dad died, I sold his goldwing (sorry da!) and bought a golfcart. We use it to go between my house and my mom's -- it's awesome!!

Similar to other comments above was with a friend on their motorcycle one-time for a short trip in the city. Seems WAY too dangerous to me and have never been on one since. Would never own one either. I still seem some on the freeway every so often zooming past all of the cars. Apparently they think they are invincible, but just seems very dangerous to me. I can recall once seeing someone on what looked like a type of racing bike going at least 100 mph based on how fast he zoomed by me. About 3 miles later he got pulled over for speeding.

Any sort of accident on a bike would seem to likely result in serious injuries. Just not anything I am interested in ever doing. Every so often I see someone on the road with a small underpowered bike that can't even go 45 mph which is the local speed limit. Not familiar with driving laws, but seems like you become more of a hazard with everyone trying to pass you. I thought you can't drive on public roads with vehicles unable to do the posted limits.

Nurse here. I’ve never seen a positive outcome for a motorcycle rider in a vehicle accident. Motorcyclists don’t have a crumple zone. They are the crumple zone. No desire to be on a motorcycle and happy that my husband & kids feel the same way.

I don't currently have a motorcycle. I sold mine a few years ago as it wasn't being used much and a friend was interested in it. but looking at getting another one. I never had lessons, so taught myself. In the UK you have to do a CBT ) Compulsory Basic Training which is a day course before you can ride on the roads with learner plates. You have to then get your full licence in 2 years or have to do another CBT course. I held off getting my full licence as once you are 17 you can ride bigger engine bikes & after a 2 year restriction can ride any size motorcycle.

My biggest annoyance is seeing people riding wearing shorts & tshirt, incorrect footwear.

Have never ridden a motorcycle and have no intention of doing. Like a lot of people on here, they scare me. The only thing that potentially appeals to me with a motorbike is the ability to weave in and out of traffic rather than sitting in it, however I dont think the risk and danger is worth it!

I knew 2 people that owned motorcycles
Really horrific deadly accident on I-35 in Texas and another one disabled outcome for their lifetime in Southern California .
So never and my children better never or else

Motorcycles scare me. I have never driven one or been a passenger on one. In fact, it's part of why things didn't work out with this one guy in my past. He bought his first Harley during law school but I was too scared to be a passenger. Needless to say, we went back to just being friends.

I was a passenger on my brother's motorcycle once. I got off of it and kissed the ground. I was terrified. He actually fought to repeal helmet laws even after having been in a couple of accidents that caused some broken bones.

One of my other brothers was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. Thankfully it was within a mile from a trauma center. While waiting for surgery he had already picked out a new one. Thankfully my brother brought the best protective equipment he could get and wore military parajumper boots. It saved him from losing his lower leg. He shattered his ankle and his helmet had a 2" wide, 1" deep and 5" long dent that would have been his head.

My daughter wanted a motorcycle from the time she could talk. I think being an OR nurse cured her of that. She has seen the results of some serious injuries.

They were all enough for me to say never again

My mom jokes about "I brought you into this world, I can take you out of it". But buying a motorcycle might be the thing that actually makes her follow through. She's also worked in hospitals her entire life and has certainly seen the aftermath of motorcycle accidents.

I’ve never been on a motorcycle because they scare me.

My DH buys old Harleys and fixes them up for fun and sells them, so we always have one but no one ever rides them, other than short test rides when he’s finished.

He’d love to drive one a lot more but I won’t let him. I remind him that he’s got 5 kids and a wife and it’s not worth the risk.

I compromised on 4 wheelers, which scare me too but I can’t take away all of his fun. He’s recently been trying to talk me into letting our 9 yo DS have his own 4wheeler, but I said no so he bought him a go-cart, which doesn’t seem a whole lot safer lol.

Never been on a motorcycle and not interested. When I was a kid, my best friend’s father was seriously injured in a crash and spent a couple years in rehab to be able to walk again. I know a few others who were involved in accidents, including a neighbor who was killed. IMO, they’re just too dangerous, especially living in a densely populated area.

My husband had a street bike when we met in the 90's.
My father did a enduro race or two when I was a kid.
My brothers & I all had dirt bikes growing up and my brothers did a few races as kids. We built a motocross track on our farm as kids (helps when your dad ownes a lot of construction equipment !)
My brothers still race and ride dual sport bikes, one of my brothers & my nephew also race older bikes
My sons had dirt bikes growing up and did a few races.
Eldest son had a street bike for a while. Happiest day of my life when he sold it.
A great employee we had for several years, and who we just promoted wrecked his street bike the night he got it. His family had to make the decision to take him off support. Left behind a 13 year old daughter and a infant son.
Street bikes scare me.

edited to say - expecting first grandaughter soon. I am guessing we'll probably be getting her a 50 (if she is interested) when she is 3 or 4.

I never owned a motorcycle, but years ago I was a passenger. I had an uncle who had motorcycles for many years.

I haven’t been on one in years but I grew up with them. My dad and uncles all had a Harley The guy I dated in college had a really nice restored Indian. I have my license but never had my own bike.

I was a passenger just once. A guy friend in college brought his motorcycle to campus one weekend and was giving friends rides.

Edit: my uncle also had a cycle and gave me a ride around the block when I was about 12. This uncle had two apparently divergent interests: motorcycles and bird watching. He’d ride his cycle to popular sites to watch bird migrations. Cape May, NJ being one such place.

My dad used to own motorcycles when I was younger. I would ride as a passenger with him a lot… both short trips and pretty long ones. When I was a teen, he taught me to operate one myself but I never went as far as getting my own motorcycle designation on my license. As an adult, I’ve never been interested in riding or driving one really… and after I had my own kids I a kind of shocked that my mom allowed me to ride… ever! She was super strict and I wasn’t allowed to do a lot of things that my peers could do… and let’s face it… having a little kid on a motorcycle doesn’t seem particularly safe (i know i was riding with him by the time i was 4.)
