Any of you hosting or going to a St. Patrick’s Day party this year?
With the holiday being on Thursday, most get togethers will probably happen this weekend.

For Me…..No parties for us.
We will go out on St. Patrick’s Day though to a restaurant in town. My stepdad, who I loved very much, passed away from Alzheimer’s on St. Patrick’s Day 6 years ago and my DH were at a local restaurant when we got the call he passed. We had just left him and I was in no mood to cook so we went to dinner. Now we return to this same restaurant every St. Patrick’s Day, get a green beer, and toast to my stepdad to remember and celebrate the man that always loved me and treated me as his own. 💚

Irish person here, living in Dublin. No parties for me, in fact I don't go out anywhere on that day. This year is the first year the parades and official festival is back, it was all cancelled in 2020 and 2021. I might watch the main parade on TV, I might not.

If anyone wants any ideas for food, actual proper Irish food, that people in Ireland eat let me know. Corned beef and cabbage is not an Irish thing, btw. we dont eat that. And please for the love of Mickey Ears its most defiantly not called St Pattys Day.

My mom was Irish. I just do what we always did when I was a kid. I'll make corned beef and cabbage for dinner on St. Patrick's day. DH and I might have a bit of whiskey.

It's very unlikely that I'll bake mother's green soda bread.

Went to a party last Saturday (before the town parade), going to one today, was invited to dinner on the 17th but I always make corned beef for my family.

Voted other, as I’m not sure what we’re doing. Leave that weekend for a trip. We usually attend a Firefighter pipes and drums party and that always lot’s of fun! 👨🏼‍🚒 🥁 🍀

We know. Just like we know the Shamrock Shake at McDonald's isn't Irish.

The history behind corned beef and cabbage is due to Irish immigrants who came here and made that because it was more economical. It is our cheap spin off. It has become our homage to our Irish immigrants.

well why not pay homage and eat what they ACTULLY did eat, instead of some cheap knock off.

I know it’s not an Irish thing, but it is an Irish American thing. I think that is what Americans are partially celebrating, family that came over and made a new life here (starting out very poor). Up until a few years ago, my March consisted of a ton of dance outs with my Irish dancing daughters, pubs, parades, nursing homes, schools, fundraising.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a St. Patrick’s Day party and won’t be this year.

Another one who makes corned beef and cabbage for dinner. Just bought it at Costco on Thursday.
