Slightly OT...We have new (furry) babies*New Pics!*

Glad things are going well with the pigs. We have had a few cats along with the GP and the cats were never particularly interested in the GP (which we always figured was a good thing!).

Don't feel like you always have to buy "new" produce for them. They make great garbage disposals! :rotfl: Celery leaves, strawberry tops (including the leaves), apple peels and cores, broccoli stems... my pigs like all of these things. I always trimmed away the dry ends and washed these things, but they were all things that would have been trash or compost otherwise. In the summer DD would bring them clover from the yard (or occasionally take them outside for a well-supervised run in the yard!). But be careful.... too much grass/clover causes some diarrhea.

I also grew some herbs and such in the summer and they really liked that... fresh parsley, basic, dill, lettuce, spinach.

Love to see more pictures!............P

My camera ate the good pictures! I feel like Kate Gosselin...I am always saying..."I hate this camera!" I will post new pictures when I get them.

I hope to get more pictures up soon...between computer issues and camera ones! :headache:

They are adorable. I had one years ago but had to get rid of it when I discovered I was incredibly allergic to guinea pigs and hamsters.

They have so much personality and are just so cute!

Yes, I am trying to find a vet who will trim them the first time so that I know where to do it. I am really nervous to do it myself.

They need to be clipped? Add one more chore to keeping pets that isn't well known.

I've never inspected one's paws up close before. In the last picture, they show up really well. And they look kinda scary for such a cute little critter. :cutie:

Yes, it is a little known fact about pigs. I did not even know until the rescue organizer told me. I am taking them to my dog vet. He usually does not handle small and furry, but he said he would show me how to trim them. They like to nestle in my neck and hair; boy do those little nails hurt.

Thanks! :goodvibes We are really enjoying them. These guys are shedding so bad right now! I am not sure if it is because the weather is changing of if it is just them. After playing with them yesterday I looked like I had been petting a cat. :lmao:

We always did our own nail trimming, but our piggies were lighter color so most of their nails were light and it was easier to see the quick. Moonlight was black and white so she had one paw that had black nails though... we always had to do just a tiny trim at a time though.

Even with regular trimming their nails can get funky. One of our piggies had one nail that insisted on curling under and would almost make a circle and come up and poke her in the paw pad. We trimmed it regularly, but it just kept growing funky like this! Vet didn't seem to think it was a big problem, as long we we kept it trimmed.

I do miss DD's piggies... and I miss having someone to eat all of the vegetable trimmings...I hate to waste them... but I DON'T miss the mess that DD never wanted to clean up... and the shredded paper and bedding that always found it ways to the floor and got carried around the house on shoes and sox.

I hope you and Jacka are enjoying your piggies............P

So we did not make it to the vet...he was going to charge us $45 for nail trimming. We will do it on our own. It looks like we have 2 light paws and 6 dark ones (what luck!) It is on my to-do list for tomorrow...not looking forward to it.

I am hoping they come out of their shyness more...blue boy is still scared a lot. :goodvibes We are having fun with them though!
