My DS and I are planning a short camping trip to the Montreal area this summer to visit Parc Safari. When we camp I usually plan all of our meals and buy the majority of our groceries at home, but I am unsure of what limitations there are about bringing food etc over the border into Canada. I would be frustrated if I bought lots of stuff and they wouldn't allow it in. But I would prefer to do my shopping at home if at all possible. Also, do they allow firewood carried over the border?

Secondly.... how heavily do they "inspect" the cars? I would imagine it is rather random. I just don't relish the idea of having my carefully packed car torn apart.

Sorry if these questions sound silly, but I have never done a bordering crossing before and just want to be sure of things before we go. TIA for any and all help.......................P

That link was very helpful. It definitely looks like there are some limitations in regards to food. And it does say that meats must be labeled "product of the US".... which means I couldn't open the packages and make up any casseroles, etc ahead of time??? Not sure....................P

I also took it that everything should be in their original packaging.

probably the wrong topic to bring up on a disney forum but you asked,...
be forewarned if anyone in your family is into personal protection "guns" and they catch you at the border with one "wheather or not you are legal here or not", they will confiscate the vehicle and you wont get to see much of canada from jail.
just a word to the wise from someone with canadian relatives.

Well... I suppose in this day and age you never know who will be "packing heat", but considering that this trip will just be me (middle-aged Mom) and my 10 y/o DS, there won't be any firearms involved! :rotfl:

Could you share any other "wise words" to help with our border crossing experience?......................P

make sure to bring birth certificates or passports for everyone.
