Slightly Freaking Out!

When our Dr. told us it was twins I started hyperventilating. DH yelled "Yes, I did it!" :rotfl2:

My only advice is to rest now, while you can. I was SOOO tired through the whole pregnancy and was on hosp. bedrest for the last 10 days. I would give anything to sleep like that again! :rolleyes1

Our twins were born c-section because our OB said it was best for the babies and we were very glad we did it that way! They were at 36 weeks gestation and were 6 lbs 10 oz. & 7 lbs 9 oz. I was Huge!

We are so blessed to have healthy children and we are so thankful for them! and having twins definitely took away away my baby-fever!

Find a Mothers of Multiples group in your area. they can be a huge resource, especially in the beginning!

Good Luck!! & CONGRATS!!

Thanks. This is what I needed to know. C section- I figured. I was thinking I was gonna have to rest later. I am sooooo tired right now. All I do is want to sleep.

Keep the stories coming!

Congrats! I know at least 3 people who have recently had identical twins...they all say it is tiring but wouldn;t change it for the world.

And just so you know, not one of them had to have a c-section.

I wanted to clarify... we didn't HAVE to have a c-section, we choose a C-section after discussing the pros & cons with my OB and our Pediatrician.
I was more worried about having a natural birth AND then needing a C-section. I just didn't want to have both! :scared1:

Also, our Ped. explained how twin B essentially goes through the stress of two deliveries since they feel everything from the delivery of twin A.
In hindsight in our situation, twin A would have delivered fine but twin B would have required emergency C-section and we are so thankful that everything worked out fine!

You need to have open conversations with your doctors and ask LOTS of questions! And every pregnancy is different just like (thankfully) every child is different! :cheer2:

The only reason I had a c/s was because baby B was breech - I almost switched doctors - my peri would do a breech delivery - but I wasn't that comfortable with it. I really wanted a v birth, but baby wouldn't turn. I do know many twin moms that did.

Congratulations!! Our identical girls just turned 7. We found out at our first ultrasound at 18 weeks. I wasn't even that big--only had gained 5 pounds. Twins are truly are blessing. Definitely join a twins group--they are great for everything from support to advice to playdates once your babies are born. Also, try twinstuff.com It's a site very similar to this, except that it's all for twins.

We have two boys. Late in 2008, we were still debating between 2 and 3 kids. Decided to try for a third. Got twins! The dr told me it was twins and my response was "no it's not." He was right.

I carried to 37w5d with nary even a visit to L&D for any reason. They were 7lbs 3oz and 7lbs at birth, and came straight home with me. I was huge, positively enormous, but it was worth it for healthy babies. I did have a c-section because baby A was breech; if they were both vertex, I would have tried a v delivery.

My twin girls are 7 months old now and such a delight. Such happy, easy babies. It's still a lot of work but much more manageable now than 6 months ago.

The worst things for me have been feeding and sleep. Feeding twins is a LOT of work at the beginning. We tried nursing and they wouldn't suck, so ended up pumping and bottle-feeding (still what we do). And my sleep is still horrendous. A good night in the first 3 months was 3 hours of broken sleep. Now, I can get maybe 5hrs of broken sleep (one sleeps through the night, the other gets up 2-3 times a night). The sleep deprivation is really wearing on me.

Another thing is that I went on Zoloft around 2m postpartum. I know quite a few moms who didn't have PPD or take meds after their singletons, but did after their twins. It's not the end of the world; just something to be aware of and be open to. I just wish that I had started the meds earlier as they made a HUGE difference in my mood.

Congratulations, and enjoy the ride!!

Congrats..that is exciting news!! I have identical twin nephews and triplet nephews/niece!!

I know a couple sets of twins, friends of my kids ~ both are a set of 1 boy 1 girl. Congratulations!

Twin mom here also. Now they're 22 years old, and they have a 24 year old sister. When I was pregnant my neighbor was pregnant also. We were due around the same time and had the same doctor. I had a feeling something was up when she was wearing her bikini at about 3 months and I was sporting my maternity clothes. At that time ultrasounds were not done unless there was a reason. My mom is a twin, so they run in my family. When I went to my next dr appt., I mentioned to him about the bikini and such and he laughed. He ordered an ultrasound and that's when we found out.

I carried my twins (boy and girl) for 9 months. They were due Dec. 10 and I had them Dec. 7. Natural birth, no drugs or epidural. Oh, and the neighbor that was pregnant too....we shared a room in the hospital as she had her daughter the day after I had the twins. :rotfl:

Sorry I should have made this clear... My DD was an emergency c section so the dr told us yesterday most likely we would have to have another c section.

:goodvibes Congratulations to you both !:goodvibes
My boy/girl twins are now 10 yrs. old. And, I have loved all 10 years.
The best thing I did was join a twins club, tons of advice and great twin sales to buy and sell. ( I still do the sales)
And, put them on the same schedule, that saved my sanity !
They get along really well for being boy/girl, but most people don't even know they are twins. ( They really don't tell anyone, they just say they are brother/sister)
So, enjoy it all. And, take the time to enjoy yourself and take care of yourself because you will be busy. Take whatever help you are offered.
And, start planning their first trip to WDW ! :wizard:

LOL my DH said we wont be going to Disney for long time now cause going on a plane with 3 kids is going to be CRAZY!!

I too just found out I am pregnant with twins! We are 11 weeks in. And we have a 1 1/2 year old! AHHH!!!! We are still trying to move from the shocked phase to the excited phase! :) Best of luck to you!

We have twin B/G and after the 1st 6 months life has been great. The do tell people they are twins, which shocks most people. For some reason every twin I know makes sure they tell who is the oldest, normally withing 20 minutes of talking.

Our twins were in the same class from kindergarten thru fifth grade and there were 6 other sets of B/G twins in their class. During the 6th grade the 7 boys went to one teacher and the girls went to a different one. All of us parents would laugh when we seen the schedules.

Enjoy the experience it is very rewarding. BTW we have a 17 and 21 year old girls and now have a 6 month old boy.:rolleyes1

Identical Twin Mom of Boys here... they are now 3... and I can tell you that it is the BEST and most MAGICAL experience of my life. Their connection between the two of them is remarkable, and it is truly awesome.

CONGRATULATIONS... it's the best thing ever... I promise!!!

LOL my DH said we wont be going to Disney for long time now cause going on a plane with 3 kids is going to be CRAZY!!

This is how I talked DH INTO going to Disney! I explained how the twins are only 2 and did he ever think that Disney would ever give us a deal of letting us take TWO of our kids for free! Free room, free parks, free eating (dining plan) ... we only had to pay for airline tickets! He bought it and now we're hooked!:rotfl2:

The other thing I learned is there are really no rules with twins. Maybe because it was my second (& third) child or maybe because I was older, or just more tired (and crabby), but I was much more relaxed with the twins. If you wanna wear jammies all day go for it! If you don't feel like visitors, politely ask them to come back later. Most days I would nurse the twins to sleep and then we'd all sleep in the recliner. I would never had done that with DS10 ... but I didn't care so much about what I was supposed to do, I thought more about what I needed to do for my kids and we'd work through the rest when we needed to.

Enjoy the pregnancy!!!:hippie:

:dance3:

Congratulations!!! We have triplets and 12yrs later a singleton. Although there are times multiples are tough, teething comes to mind, I think in alot of ways they are easier. With the triplets, I very very seldom got, "mommy can you play with me. When I played with them it was always because I wanted to, therefor enjoying it completely. I feel my triplets never felt like they had to be anything they weren't comfortable with in order to fit in, because they always knew they had someone to play with. They are now in college.
My biggest piece of advise to you is to enjoy every minute of it. The pregnancy enjoy it, the infancy, (paint a toe nail if dh cann't tell them apart), the "terrible" twos (my personal favorite age), teething -then when they loose their first tooth, potty training. AND WRITE DOWN EVERTHING, because even the things you think you will never forget, you may not remember which one did/said it.
I often say all my children are suprise miracles. Enjoy your miracle.
