The following pictures were taken of DD's Skechers which are very like Crocs in design and material.

She was holding my hand and standing still going down an escalator in a shopping centre when her left foot must have brushed the edge of the escalator.

The left edge of the shoe stuck. We were near the bottom and when she screamed I just yanked her off and the shoe mangled in the bottom teeth. She was unscathed appart from a black scuff mark on her big toe which means that her foot must have twisted in the shoe around 90 degrees before I pulled her foot out.

I must admit that once I saw there was no blood and that she was in no pain beyond fright I was just thankful :)

Just wanted to post this as a warning to others. The centre staff was very concerned and helpful and when we went through a reconstruction we all seemed happy that there was no fault with the escalator (though engineers and insurance people were coming to check the next day!). It just seems that the material used in the shoe made it stick to the side by friction alone.

They are going to send pictures to other shopping centres as a warning so let us know if you see a poster of Molly's shoe - we let them keep it ;)

Keep your toes safe xx

Please excuse the quality of the pics as it was only a camera phone but I think they give the idea.

Having seen the pictures I really think this is something the HSE must be made aware of, not to get the shopping centre into any trouble but to make sure it is circulated to ALL shopping centres. Thank goodness she is ok but it could have very easily have been a less happy ending. I should think the manufactures of the shoes would also be very interested as hteir produce is potentually dangerous :sad2: .

That is very scary indeed - thanks for sharing Jo. It will certainly make me pay attention when my Molly wears her crocs out and about  Molly was lucky she had you to grab her out of danger:hug:

I have heard about this happening before with crocs, I am glad your DD is okay and was not injured.

You are right Tony. The security guard took all the details at the time but when we were walking back through the centre shortly after the shops closed the Centre Manager was looking the the escalator and we had a long talk with him about it all. They were taking it very seriously (as of course they should!) and I guess that as the insurance company is involved it will be escalated to the HSE. I'll chase that aspect when we are next in contact with them.

Good idea - I've just e-mailed them the photos. Thanks :thumbsup2

Jo, Glad that your DD is ok. I've heard this happening before with crocs and escalators. Having seen your photos I will certainly be more careful.

poor molly it must have been very scary  i have heard reports of this happening before as well !

Glad your dd is okay Jo. I will bear this in mind when I am next wearing my Crocs.

Jo I am so glad that Molly is ok - very scary! I have never heart of this before but will be more careful from now on.

Jo

How scarey for you and Molly, I do hope she is ok today:hug:   Let us know what happens please.

that must have been scary Jo, I am glad that Molly is ok, thanks for the warning

Absolutely thanks for the warning. I have never heard of this happening before, I will make sure my two boys know about this as they both have crocs and sometimes are not always as careful on escalators as I would like them to be. I can remember as a youngster watching safety adverts about tripping on an escalator and to this day I still don't like them and think about that advert when I'm on one.

Hope Molly is over her ordeal.

Thanks for your good wishes everyone :goodvibes

Molly was fine after a nice glass of pop, some tissues and a sit on a show bed in the store at the bottom of the stairs! DH carried her round till we found a shoe shop and bought her some pumps to wear.

This happened on Wednesday after visiting DN in hospital so we could have done without the extra drama (we'd only stopped to feed the kids!)

There are other pictures similar to ours on older threads so we are clearly not alone!

:scared: Wow, glad Molly's ok, but that was seriously scary.

I shall be thinking twice in future about wearing my Crocs to anywhere other than down the beach.

Take care all Crocers:)

Wow, that's kinda scary. I wear my Crocs everywhere, even to work. Thanks so much for posting that, I will definitely keep an eye out for that sort of thing now and will let my friends know.

Anybody who is interested, do a Google search on "crocs" and "escalators" - will list hundreds of similar accidents - many with a lot more lasting damage :sad2:

This wont be down to crocs alone (maybe it is because they are very fashionable with kids) - flip flops and other sandals and shoes could easily lead to a VERY similar accident... kids tend to "fidget" on escalators (i.e. running their toes around etc) - which can EASILY go unnoticed by a parent standing next to them and holding their hand.

Do what I do with my daughter - warn her to stand still well AWAY from the front/back/side edges of the step and watch her like a hawk (from before you step on to after you get off). If I am in ANY doubt, I will pick her up (she is only 2) or I will take the stairs with her instead.
