I'm going to be on the Dream with just myself and my 2 kids. I already know my kids will be in the kids clubs most of the time. I am a single mom and was wondering what I might enjoy doing on the ship by myself while the kids are having fun in the clubs? I'm already planning some time in the spa. Other Suggestions?

In my experience, people tend to be really friendly on a cruise. Don't hesitate to do anything on the schedule that looks fun. We've had others join our team for trivia or share a table with us at the cooking demonstrations and alcohol tastings (mixology, wine tasting, etc.). I often go to activities alone when my family is off doing other things or isn't interested in that event. It's never been an issue.

Don't forget that the movie theater shows first-run Disney company films so that's always a great way to spend a couple of hours. Also, there is usually a Single Cruisers lunch and other get togethers throughout the cruise.

Finally, you can join the thread for your sail date in the Cruise Meets section of this board (at the top of the main page). Perhaps there are other single cruisers there. They may also be planning group activities in which you could participate.

Have a great time!

Join the Cruise Meets forum for your cruise. You can meet people before your cruise and probably meet some other single Moms. Maybe even meet a single Dad too...:)

As a fellow single mom, I think what I'm looking forward to most is the chance to just breathe, watch the water/scenery go by, enjoy a good book (which NEVER happens at home!), and maybe sneak in a little bingo. :D Enjoy your cruise!

Enjoy your cruise. The spa is for sure and time in the Rainforest Room. When we cruise it seems as though we all go our own ways and meet up at meals. A couple of things I did without everyone else was the ship tour and went to hear and Imagineer speak. If you're into the photos etc. you can work on a picture book at the kiosks if I'm not mistaken. DH isn't a real sun person so I'm usually on deck solo and I always find folks to talk just a bit with which is nice.

As a single Dad I found the Dream to be my most relaxing vacation ever. It was so stress free compared to standing in line in the parks. As someone previously said, most people are so friendly because they are on vacation and I found it very easy to meet people and I am usually very quiet and reserved. My daughter spent almost all her time in the kids club or with friends so I was solo most of the time, I did insist on eating meals together though. I really enjoyed my veranda during the day and then hitting a Bar after dinner. They had activities off and on like trivia and an appetizer bar and even if the bar was empty I really enjoyed talking to the servers, it was very entertaining talking to so many people from different countries. By the last night I knew quite a few people who passed through the bar from time to time. My favorite part might have been just sitting on my veranda after midnight when everything was quiet......so relaxing. You will have fun!

I'm a single mom I've taken my girls on 3 cruises with DCL, the first was a 7 day cruise, I read 2 books, went to a cooking demonstration, toured the Galley, went to a singles meet. Met some really nice people just lounging around the pool. On a 4 night I even did Palo brunch by myself and loved it. It was quite and peaceful.
Cruising DCL is the most relaxing vacation. I love going to the parks but cruising is just stress free.
And if your kids want to do the kids clubs on Castaway Cay, go and enjoy the adults only beach. You will love it.

I'm not single but often do things by myself as my family isn't into all the stuff I am. Like others have mentioned, most people are very friendly and will let you join in their group or sit at their table if its a group event.

Do you like to read? I love sitting on my balcony or even out on deck and reading a book while the wind is blowing and I can smell the ocean (and see it when I look up). So relaxing!!!

As the veteran of 3 cruises with only DD who wanted nothing to do with me, this is what I do: read, sunbathe, go to the gym, run on deck 4, spa, Rainforest , Palo and...SLEEP;)

I am not single but my husband and I do completely different things. Do the mixology classes...a great way to meet fun people. Sit at the Cove cafe and people watch. Don't be afraid to go to the bars at night. Always friendly people. They do offer single mixers...do it. I am much more social than my husband and love striking up conversations with strangers. The spa is great but you can only spend so much time there! The fitness center is well equipped and another good way to meet people as is the fitness classes they offer. I love just jumping in the pool or hot tub and striking I
Up a conversation over a drink. If you are up for it, consider going to palo one night on your own. You would be treated like a queen! So make sure they don't put you in a corner but out where you can see people.

Ok, so spa and rainforest room and reading seems to be pretty popular. I am definitely going to be at the adult pool and serenity bay at CC. I do need a sun tan. lol. I'm not sure about dining at Palo by myself though?

I'm loving this thread, I took DD to WDW alone and it just about killed me; I think having the kids club will be awesome. I think I'm going to read and nap!

I'm a single mom who has cruised with my DS9 both with friends and alone. When we last cruised alone I ate at Palo alone and it was nice and very relaxing. I simply looked at the scenery and enjoyed the food. Another time I put on the Disboards meet that I was single and wanted to go to Palo and ended up meeting with three other single moms. That was a blast.
