Since when is a "size 6" overweight?

I wear a size 6 (misses) and could stand to lose about 20 lbs. I am 5'3" and 140 lbs. DD17 wears a size 5 (Juniors) and there is a world of difference in a 5 or 7 juniors and a 6 misses. A 6 misses would fall right off of her! LOL

We had a diser long past who insisted that any woman who wore a size 12 was morbidly obese.:rotfl2: :rotfl2: He went as far as try on a pair of womens size 12 jeans to prove the point.:rotfl2:

I do have a very small friend who wears size 0 without being cachectic. If she were to blossum to a size 6, she would probably look "chunky".

But most women at a size 6 would not be fat.

I think the mom probably has issues and needs psychological help before her daughter suffers.

Actually, the medical specialists state that anyone above 30 BMI are obese.

I wear a size 12-14 and am considered obese.

I don't considered myself as obese though. Just overweight.

I don't question at all that a person in size 12 could be obese....possible morbidly obese. this person thought that anyone in a 12 had to be grossly overweight. Which is silly.

Okay, although I hate you :lmao: because you can eat so much, I am 5'8", and on my wedding day, 14 years ago, I weighed 128 pounds, and was very fit (2 hours a day at the gym), and wore a size 8 - I was thin enough, but there was NO WAY I could wear a 4. I also realize the size 12 I wear today is probably the same as a size 16 back in the day... Gotta love vanity sizing!

There is a difference in the junior department - although dd is a 0 or 2 in misses, she's a 3 or 5 in juniors.

Oh, I believe that!! I find it the craziest when I can walk into a store and fit into a 0 or a 2. Believe me, I am slim but I am no 0! LOL Although I have the hardest time finding clothes because I carry my weight in my chest and thighs. Drives me crazy because clothes that fit in the waist are too tight around my thighs and clothes that fit my thighs are too big around the waist. Maddening stuff.

I try not to get all caught up in the size issue, though. The clothes are there to fit me, not the other way around! It's not what we are that counts, it's who we are.:goodvibes

That is wrong on so many levels.

My mom has been obese my entire life. When I was younger I used to be a dancer and of course there were some body image issues that came with it. I inherited my mom's thighs and it was a constant source of struggle for me. I used to wear a size 0 at the Gap, and can remember when for awhile their sizes shrank. I got very depressed when I had to move up to a 2 or 4 and absolutely ahted myself. I did start to gain weight when I went to college, but the best thing my parents did was not harp on me about it but just support me in my efforts to lose it. I now am truly overweight, but they do not sit there and call me fat or anything. I can't imagine the eating disorder I would have developed if my mom had done what that mom is doing.

Huh? Am I reading your post correctly? Do you think a person in a size 12 is obese but not overweight?

No not at all. Just the opposite. I was relating a story in a prior post about a poster on the DIS a few years back that stated any woman who wore a size 12 or greater was morbidly obese. We of course all gave him the appropriate heck for it.

There could be a person wearing a size 12 that could be considered obese....there could also be a person wearing a size 12 that could be cachectic. It all depends on your frame size, etc.

Does that clarify?;)
