I thought I would ask you guys since you are all a world of information! We are staying at Silver Lake resort in August for the first time - Is there anything I should know on location of my unit (noise, top floor etc.? I know all requests are not guaranteed but its always worth the try - Thanks so much - Any info you think I should know please pass it my way!:wave2:

Take care and happy trip planning!

PS - We did AKL (and loved it!!!) last year so anyone with questions don't hesitate to ask!!!

Silver Lake is right near the back entrance to WDW. You take Sherberth (sp?) Rd. and enter near AK. It has a nice pool area. The rooms are contemporary, with mirrors EVERYWHERE. There is stuff for the kids to do, a small playground. There is a gift shop on-site, with some essential grocery items. You are very close to shops on 192. There were some new buildings when we were there, but our condo was in good shape even though it was older. As far as noise, there are no carpets, so the top floor makes sense, but also no elevators, so if you aren't in shape, its a long haul.
One thing I didn't like was that they charged us a non-refundable $25 fee to take the tour. We did, and got free tickets to Seaworld, but wouldn't have if not forced to pay. The week was a gift from a relative, and we decided a long time ago that RCI wasn't for us. Have purchased DVC recently.

Stayed in Dec 2003. Our building had an elevator HOWEVER it backed to Sherbeth Road and there was very little soundproofing...we could hear ALL the traffic whiz by.

I stayed in the 600 building in May. It's one of the older 3 story buildings. They have no elevators. I believe the only ones w/ elevators are the new ones along Sherbeth and the Tall building next to the pool (bldg 1800??). my buidling was very quiet. Never heard traffic, neighbors, etc. We were on the top floor, unit 636 I believe. No screen porch or deck, though.

Stayed there 3 times & loved it. We have never heard any neighbors at all. We stayed in one of the newer buildings in the back this time & did have an elevator. The new rooms were decorated beautifully. I don't know which number buildings are the new ones & which are the older ones. I do know that this time we had a 3 bedroom unit & stayed in the new building. We had a 2 bedroom when we stayed in the older ones. The pool is huge & the cabana served delicious food. The gift shop had very nice souveniers. We didn't take the tour at all. We just kept making excuses not to go.

Stayed there five times so far. The units that face the pool area in 1700-1800 (the tall building) have a great view but you can hear the kids yelling in the pool until about 10PM. If you get this building and want quiet, ask for a room that faces the parking lot.

The rooms in one building back up to Sherbeth Rd. I'd ask for a new room if you end up in one of these.

Also ask if there is any construction going on. We got stuck in a unit overlooking the construction mess once.
