Always check with the DCL website first for a point of comparison.

Many here have found the board sponsor Dreams Unlimited to be very good as well as www.allseastravel.com and Costco and AAA.

It does take a lot of research to find the best price but it can be done.

Good luck and I am sure others will post with agencies that gave them the best deals.

I haven't used them, but I read here once that a lot of people had used www.cruisecompete.com. I got a bunch of really competitive quotes from them for an Alaska cruise, but they are from travel agents all over the country and I decided I wasn't comfortable working with someone that I couldn't see face to face. If you're ok with that though, they seemed to have really good prices!

The key is to do enough investigation and obtain enough quotes until you are satisfied that you are paying a price with which you are comfortable. For some, that may only require one or two calls. For the el-cheapos like me, I think I obtained about 6-8 different quotes before deciding on my TA (CostCo).

But, the most important factor in any quote is have a price in mind that you are comfortable paying. Don't overextend your limit. You may enjoy the cruise, but it may cause headaches and frustration up until the point of the cruise. I have done this before, not with DCL or WDW, but with other vacations.

Your best bet (when this is an option) is to re-book on board, THEN transfer the ressie to a discount agent when you get back home. If you use a discount agent who discounts by essentially giving you a rebate on a portion of her commission, you can get the best of both worlds.

The other way for a discount agent to work is for the agency to buy a block of cabins from DCL, then re-sell them at a cheaper than normal rate. In that case, you cannot transfer the ressie.

Instead of best price, why not think of it as who is providing the best service?

Yes, money is always important but as I have just come to learn, All Seasons Travel is on top of things. I received several calls already from both my agent and the President (Chuck Maida) about the 9/4 cruise. They confirmed my flight, hotel reservations and phone numbers and reassured me that Disney would let us know if there were any changes. Sandi even gave me a number to use to call DCL directly about it.

It makes more sense to me to use a travel agent who deals with Disney on a large number basis than try to do it myself - so I highly recommend All Seasons for their commendable service during this time.

Ok. I admit it. I didn't know you could get a discount on a cruise!

I thought Disney did not discount through travel agents at all. Thought it was one price.

Yikes.

yes, they can get blocks of rooms cheaper.

I am saving over $1000 with DU than the DCL price.

Yes, the Travel Agency gets a commission for selling staterooms on cruises. That's the way they earn their living - but some are better than others in customer service and/or discounts. Be an informed shopper when you compare!

micdan.com never responded to my price quote request, so I can't recommend them.

DU and allseas have very informative and pleasant TAs, which is a plus.

Costco also has knowledgeable and pleasant TAs, but the hold time can be really long.

mycruisevalue.com had the lowest price, but when I posted about them, I got several emails from Disers warning me about the poor quality of TAs and the problems encountered with them.

In the end, I had 4 or 5 quotes, and chose Costco, because they had the next lowest price and are reputable.

I agree Dana at micdan is fantastic. I received a lower quote from them vs Costco or allseas.

I have heard that booking while on board (provided that you have any money left in your bank account!) is the best deal because you get an early booking discount plus a shipboard credit (usually about $200). Then you can transfer the booking to a TA who can get you other additions or whatnot and maybe even another shipboard credit!

cruisecomplete.com worked great for us.
We ended up with tons of quotes, plus the quotes we got ourselves.
mousearsvacations gave us the best price and we booked with them.

I have booked with All Seas twice and have not been happy with them. I was assured after the difficulties we had the first time that we would be taken care of. I decided to give them another chance since so many people I know use them and have been happy with them. I made the mistake of booking with them again. One particular travel agent named Sandy has given me a terrible time. I also got an attitude from Lizzie.( I don't know if there is more than one Sandy) I asked after the 1st booking to never have contact with Sandy again but I got a nasty call from her today. I have had pleasant interactions with Keith and Kathy but a few bad attitudes will send me to another travel agency next time.
